If she lied to LE, for whatever reason, I hope they charge her with obstruction or something. If she was misquoted by her bf's mother, she could have corrected the info. She didn't. LE and missing posters all said Willow disappeared Sunday morning....

If she was misquoted by the bf's mother, and it mattered to the search, wouldn't LE have corrected it?

I don't see how or why she should be charged with lying to police. She reported Willow missing which is what she believed at the time. Unless she had intent to mislead police or could reasonably foresee the consequences of her lie, why should she be a criminal?

I had a look (albeit quick) at Illinois laws on obstruction of justice and filing a false police report (disorderly conduct). If she lied to protect herself, but believed Willow went missing Sunday morning, I don't think she meets the criteria. What did the police say at the press conference? "Sometimes it is hard to tell what is a lie"? Or something to that effect. Of course, I may be wrong and I often am.

Btw, I can't believe we are focusing so much on what CD said to police. Not saying it is irrelevant, but if I clicked on this thread for the first time I would think CD was the murderer.

How did she see Willow on Sunday morning, feed her breakfast, etc? Willow was dead hours before CD claimed to have done these things....I know many people think its no big deal if CD lied to LE. I disagree. Willow deserved better from her mother....:twocents:

It's on shelbycountynews.net it quotes the BF's mom bc she is a resident of ShelbyCo, and we are an extremely tight knit county. She contacted SCN to do the interview to get the news out about the search.

Thank you

It's so awful that these things keep happening to children. You really need to have a special kind of cold heart to kill a child. I don't think it matters what sort of upbringing or social backgrounds these perps have, everyone knows right from wrong. If all people that played video games were violent murders then you could use that as a defence but they are not. If all people that were abused became killers you could use that as a defence, but that's not true either. I'd like an answer to why there is pure evil in this world but there just isn't one!
I know it's easier to find some kind of thing to blame this horrific stuff on but there just isn't, some people really are just scum.
I'm so sorry this happened to you little Willow. I'm sorry that so many people failed you.
xxxxxx

Sheriff JM said that the story from CD came to them directly from CD herself upon arriving at the home after Willow was reported missing. When asked, that is the story she told them (the brekky, Princess and frog, going back to bed after seeing her, etc).

Is there a link with sheriff stating what you just write above?

There was an article were a police officer or someone in LE mentioned that attention started to shift to JD when he decided to go to work rather than help with the search for Willow.

Thanks for that, i stand corrected:blushing: do you have a link please?

Can't find the article....:banghead:

It was a little strange....talked about bfs mom a lot....like she is a local celebrity or something

That rings a bell, I seem to remember the article mentioning the bf's mother, and thinking "oh she must be relatively famous in the US, but I've never heard of her" (I'm in the UK).

Am I right in thinking the bf's mother is the local mayor's wife?

Thank you for the warm welcome too guys, I've been lurking since the Alanna Gallagher case, but only just plucked up the courage to post :-)

There has been a lot of focus on the lie told to LE by CD, and with good reason imo. The lie was huge, CD stated that she was the last person to see Willow, and that Willow was alive and well on Sunday morning. In any missing person investigation, where the missing person was last seen and by whom is hugely important. CD effectively deflected any attention from her brother and sent police on a wild goose chase. It was a good 24 hrs before it was even reported in msm that JD was even at the house.

There was no reason for CD to lie, trying to keep hold of your "good mother" status is not a good reason to lie, and surely a moot point if your child is missing?

Imo poor sweet Willow has been failed on many levels. In most cases lies of this nature would raise a red flag. It also concerns me that as far as I can see, the lies told by CD have not been addressed yet, at least if they have this has not appeared in msm.

Because there is a huge difference between a seven year old walking away from the house after an argument in the mid-morning hours, and a seven year old disappearing from her house sometime in the middle of the night.

ETA: I believe it would change the way in which they searched for her.

My 3 month old daughter died of SIDS two years ago. We never stashed in that house again. It was heartbreaking to be in that house without her. My parent when they arrived from out of town stayed there while we stayed at a friends home and hotel in the first week. If she had been murdered there I dont think I could have ever even stepped foot in that house again.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Everyone handles death differently. My grandpa died in his home. My grandmother refuses to move out even though she is 6+ hours away from her nearest relatives. She wants to be around all of his stuff and wants things to stay how they were when he was there.

(KMOV) – A 22-year-old Illinois man who allegedly stabbed his 7-year-old niece to death will appear in front of a judge for the first time on Thursday.

Justin DeRyke, who is accused of murdering Willow Long in Effingham County early last week, is expected to plead not guilty in her death during the arraignment.

DeRyke was indicted Wednesday on three first-degree murder charges.

Officials said 16 to 21 jurors heard details of the case. Kibler said there was a unanimous vote to indict him.

Jumping off your post...

I, too, am wondering who the mayor of Watson, IL, is the mayor was mentioned in some capacity in early reports of Willow's case...

when googling I found a site entitled..."Effingham County Clerk/Recorder"

Watson, IL is listed as a "Village"... And the Village President is listed as Wanda Ashbaugh..

But I could not find who the mayor is...

could a local help us out with this information, perhaps?

JMO ... And....

TIA...:seeya:

Thank you. I agree if it were my husband that died it would be different. The death of a child destroys You in ways you can't imagine. I barely survived, in fact if it weren't for my older daughter, I would be dead. I am not saying that's what happened here but it would be a really great reason why CD is not in the home

 Secretagent..

Thank you for sharing your "story"...

I, too, lost a son to SIDS 26 years ago... He was 7 1/2 weeks...

We had just moved into our new home... I was having contractions while we were signing papers, in fact... :what:

and I could not go back to living in that house...

DH and I stayed at my parents... I got pregnant again... And it wasnt until I had my DD... A year later... That I could form new "Memories".... And move back into our house.... Which... Incidentally... We STILL live in to this day...

However... Had we not proceeded to have another child...(miraculous in my eyes... Since it was not planned)... I do not believe I could have moved back into that house... Even though it would have been a financial nightmare for us...

All... JMO

The BF's mom lives in a different town, so she is not the mayor's wife. Smaller town's that are considered a village have a Village President, not a mayor, but they are basically the same thing and people usually say "mayor" not "village president."

So... Village President does mean basically the same thing as Mayor...

Thank you for that information, TJR! :seeya:

So sorry for your loss <3 I don't have children I can't even imagine but my Mum suffered a stroke in 2009, I found her on the floor and since she returned home from the hospital I have been her carer (it left her with left sided paralysis and she lives across the street from me) for a long time when I opened the front door I would relive that moment and see her there on the floor, even to this day the memory is still strong but the panic has subsided. I didn't want to go back over there but I had no choice. If my child had died in the house I can only imagine I would want to be as far away as possible.
