GUILTY IL - Willow Long, 7, Watson, 8 Sept 2013 - #5

somewhat local to me and I have heard/seen nothing new.

This is the latest as far as I know, but this will all be changed with scheduling and so on. We probably won't see the end of it unless DeRyke decides to plead guilty and just go to jail (like Austin Sigg did in CO) and save his family the pain of a trial.

What news there is, I will archive it.

DeRyke also requested a jury trial. Judge Tungate scheduled DeRyke's trial for December 2 at 8:30am although it's highly unlikely the sides will be ready for trial by that time. The trial date was set within the 120-day speedy trial guideline in Illinois courts. A pre-trial hearing on any pending matters in the case was set for 11am on October 22.

Justin DeRyke will be in court today. IMO, there is no way they will begin a trial in December.

Justin DeRyke, 22, is scheduled to have a pretrial hearing on three counts of first-degree murder. He’s been in jail on a $5 million bond since Sept. 10 after he was charged in the death of Willow Long. He pleaded not guilty to the charges during an arraignment on Sept. 19.

DeRyke’s trial will begin on Dec. 2. Illinois State’s Attorney Bryan Kibbler said he will file papers to seek a sentence of natural life in prison.

Any news from the court today? Willow is in my thoughts. I'll never forget her grammy's video. The pure grief will stay with me forever.

A further pre-trial hearing was scheduled for 11am on November 25. DeRyke's trial is scheduled to begin December 2 although it's highly unlikely both sides will be ready for trial by that time. The date was set since it's within the 120-day speedy trial guideline.

EFFINGHAM — Jury selection in the case of a Watson man accused of killing his niece last month is set for Dec. 2.

But Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler told reporters after a brief pretrial hearing for Justin S. DeRyke Tuesday that it is unlikely a jury would hear the case before early next year because of the voluminous amount of information compiled in connection with the investigation.

"While the defendant has the right to a speedy trial, the most likely scenario (for a jury trial) is sometime in early 2014," Kibler said.

According to information provided by the Shelby County State's Attorney's office, Ciara DeRyke "knowingly possessed" a combination metal and wood box commonly used to store marijuana.

This box did have mj residue, right?

My best guess is that it did have residue in it. It sounds like they're describing a dugout/one-hitter (at least that's what I know it as). One side has a small, usually cigarette-shaped pipe & the other side has a deep compartment that you pack a decent amount of weed down in. Stick the pipe down in there & it packs itself enough for one person to smoke. They're pretty deep, so unless it was brand new and never used, it would have at least a little bit of weed residue in it. Don't ask how I know this much about the subject.... ;)

This is what I believe them to be talking about when they say "box" :

I could be wrong, but I BELIEVE there was only one traffic accident, on October 14th. Judici only shows one traffic incident, and I think if she were in two accidents, there would be two. Again, this is only my opinion, but I think the drug charges were just ADDED on the 22nd, but occurred at the same time. I'm not sure, though because the article is confusing. I will mention that both the court date for the traffic accident on the 14th and the drug paraphernalia charge are on November 13th, which is what leads me to believe that they were the same incident.

Thanks for confirming it was just one crash.

This is not a serious charge, but it is going to throw a problem into getting her son back, if she is planning to try for that.
