Frankly, I'm not a lawyer but a José Baez type defense would've absolutely cast doubt on MZ's involvement as a way to create reasonable doubt. I'm not saying that would've been the right thing to do. I'm saying a David Rudolf type of defense would've never admitted to BC killing YYZ which was the hardest thing to prove and would've absolutely pointed the finger at Michelle coming back and killing YYZ in a jealous rage or something for no other purpose than to create reasonable doubt.

She is not on trial, it matters nothing how bad she looks as far as his death penalty is concerned. If she was a witch in the hell realm it would not affect his sentencing.
There must be another reason.

If she looks bad and comes off as a total witch, jurors might have less sympathy for, and a negative attitude toward, her, and it would lessen the effect of whatever good things she might say about BC's character.

could well be cos they cited her comment from the June '17 interview about his character, she told them a lot in that interview...
before he started controlling her and pressing all her buttons again.
He used her mercilessly.
Who paid for his excessive eating and drinking habits?

You are describing the END of the marriage -the last year/year and a half. They want to paint a picture of the entire marriage and try and show that Brendt was basically a good guy, who just hit a downward spiral and it culminated on June 9th. If Michelle comes off as an unsympathetic character, they won't give credit to ANY of the good things she says about him -they'll only remember the bad last part of the marriage, and not buy or care about her characterization of Brendt earlier in the marriage and when they were dating...

For them to have her paint him in a positive light (outside of his BS on the 9th of June), they have to have her seen in a positive light. Thus, the character rehabilitation.....

She did NOT paint him in a good light in either of her 2 appearances.
She did nothing at all to help him.
She loved him, he loved her, they got married
That's it.
That is not a 'good light' that is a collection of facts, not speculation.
And she did actually come off as unsympathetic to him.

She did not utter a single syllable to save him from DP.
