I;ve been a longtime lurker and watcher, but this case has sorta grabbed my attention. Can anybody explain the disconnect between the FBI finding her car, and the complete lack of progress on who was driving the car that day ? Can't they get fingerprints, other videos in the area, ownership of the vehicle, etc ? Somebody owns that car. Somebody was driving that car, on that day. How tough can it be to figure out who this person was ?

I don't claim to be nearly as experienced as most of you are about these things, but I'm struggling to understand why this should be so complicated with the information they have at hand. It seems obvious to a casual observer that either one of two things happened here:

A) He spoke to her in her native language, and convinced her to get in the car.

B) He convinced her he was a law enforcement officer, or an authoritative figure , and she complied out of fear.

I guess I am just frustrated this entire ordeal is dragging out the way it is..............it shouldn't be this hard to nab the bad guy.

The FBI most likely has already collected a bunch of evidence, but they will not always release the fact that they did. They tend to keep things very, very secret - and if they do release information it's because they've done so for a very specific purpose. Things are done on a 'need-to-know' basis - and if you don't need to know, they're not going to tell you.

I used to work as an Investigator for Homeland Security - I've been involved in cases whereby my Lieutenant wanted 40 people interviewed; we had vast teams of people working on specific issues, getting subpoenas, conducting surveillance, etc. The FBI has even more resources at their disposal - literally anything they may need. I'm sure there is an entire team working on this case; investigators, profilers, evidence technicians, people searching electronic data, etc.

Champaign Man Arrested, Charged with Kidnapping Visiting Scholar

Late today, FBI agents arrested a Champaign, Ill., man, Brendt Christensen, 27, on a criminal complaint that charges Christensen with kidnapping visiting Chinese scholar Yingying Zhang on June 9, 2017. Christensen will remain in law enforcement custody pending his initial federal court appearance in Urbana scheduled on Monday, July 3, at 10:00 a.m.

According to the affidavit, on June 29, 2017, while Christensen was under law enforcement surveillance, agents overheard him explaining that he kidnapped Zhang. Based on this, and other facts uncovered during the investigation of this matter, law enforcement agents believe that Ms. Zhang is no longer alive.

Members of Ms. Zhang’s family, the Chinese consulate, and University of Illinois officials have been advised of Christensen’s arrest and the evidence in the possession of the FBI.

So where's Yingying?

Glad there's an arrest, but .... ???
