Sun, I've got news for you; the peanuts used in candy bars are loaded with rodent droppings; that's what gives them their unique flavor--hehe.
Hmmmm.... always wondered how that unique flavor got there. Oh brother, so what is left? How about home grown veggies? ...still thinking about the peanuts.

Mounds and Almond Joy to be made outside the country by years end!

Local news here in CT that Hershey's is closing down the Peter Paul Mounds and Almond Joy factory in Naugatuck, CT. It probably won't taste the same anymore. They are outsourcing to either Mexico or China.

Effem China develops, produces and markets a range of snackfood and pet food products for sale in China (including Hong Kong) and for export to Japan. Our confectionery brands include DOVE, M&M's, SKITTLES, and SNICKERS and pet food brands include PEDIGREE and WHISKAS.

For instance, I switched to Natural Balance after the recall because they assured consumers that no foods were made at Menu Foods and that they didn't use the imported wheat gluten.

That type marketing is similar to a ploy used by many manufacturers of products advertised as "no animal testing done by our company" or "our products are not tested on animals." What they don't tell you is the ingredients used to make the product come from factories or laboratories that do, indeed, test the ingredient on a live animal. I have a real problem with companies that twist words like that. Grrrrrrr

If I give you the machine, will you share your home grown food? (I think candy bars are still safe)
I've lived on candy bars and diet Coke for years. My system would go into shock if I switched to something home grown..LOL!

Since I've been feeding Elmo the dehydrated food from the Honest Kitchen (because he won't eat Life's Abundance) Brian has been fussing that the dog eats better than we do because I don't cook for us! My excuse was...our food hasn't been recalled. So I can't let him find out!:D

Hershey's is closing down the plant here, too, and moving to Virginia. Wonder what other products will be outsourced? Ths is going to suck big time if we have to worry about Almond Joy candy bars being safe to eat. :furious:

another FDA alert:
http://www.fda.gov/opacom/7alerts.html

The list is just to long to post but it concerns cross-contamination. Worth a look.

If you want to subscribe to the alerts:

I really worry about what I feed my 4-leggeds. I don't trust the ingredients list on the packages anymore.
That is quite a list, cathieq. I had to laugh at this one: FDA Warns Consumers about Counterfeit Drugs from Multiple Internet Sellers
Even a brand of MILK was on the list.

After their first recall of LiveSmart Weight Management Chicken and Brown Rice, SmartPak sent all of their other dog food for testing, and Adult Lamb and Brown Rice came back with positive results. SmartPak is dry food and is made by Chenango Valley.

More DRY Food!

is another example of cross-contamination. Livesmart is a home delivery product and through the efforts to notify customers they (the company) learned the following.

From the alert:
...the company has become aware of two instances of vomiting and learned that a 10 year old Rottweiler had passed away two weeks previous to the recall...

...may have been cross contaminated at the Chenango plant..

I honestly think that if anything were to happen to my 4-leggeds and it was a result of what I'd fed them, I'd switch to vigilante mode. As pet owners/lovers, we just can't allow this to be swept under the rug. I don't just want reassurance now - I want PROOF, proof that what is listed as ingredients has/have been deemed safe. In case these higher-ups don't know it, these 4-leggers of mine are not property but a very important part of my life.

[/url] Thanks, A2me - this could become a serious problem. Going to check what is posted on the link now...
C-Sun....did you hear any more about the bees? I read somewhere that they might be getting lost because of cellphone transmissions!

More dry food on the list......bees dying/lost......we're going to be down to mushrooms and fish!

I don't know if I updated about my Elmo's food on this thread....

He LOVES the dehydrated food from The Honest Kitchen called FORCE......the Force is with Momo now! But...it has to have a squirt of Welactin (Omega 3 fish oil from the vet) pumped on. Instead of calling him catdog...I can call him fishdog now.

A Chinese factory was the source of a counterfeit chemical that killed dozens of people in Panama after it was used in human medications...

...Panama’s death toll leads directly to Chinese companies that made and exported the poison as 99.5 percent pure glycerin...

but
...it was diethylene glycol, a chemical cousin of antifreeze that can cause kidney and neurological damage if ingested...
http://www.nytimes.com/

Now who's idea was it to start trading with China in the first place?

From same article:
...The Times found records showing that the same Chinese company implicated in the Haiti poisoning also shipped about 50 tons of counterfeit glycerin to the United States in 1995...

didn't we just get through a chicken scare recently? I had stopped buying all poultry products for the longest time - only recently did i start buying them again....and now this - our food won't even be safe for our pets!!!!!
hershey is probably moving production to china because labor is cheaper in china....russell stover chocolates, anyone?????

They think it's a mite. They are sure mites are killing the Hawaiian honey bees. They are trying to quarantine them to the extent a bee can be quarantined. I'm not sure if they have for sure identified what's killing the mainland honeybees. Probably the same thing. Someone, Buzzm, I think....started a thread somewhere about the bees....I think it's in 'up to the minute...' iirc

I found this article on another website:
