He's not a freaking repeat traffic offender or anything he's a literal felon. I'm sure they have standard procedure for felons. I still can't believe some people treat multiple DUI and repeat probation violations as minor offenses. He could easy have killed someone on the road even if he didn't kill anyone on his property. People like him are dangerous society should be protected from him, I don't care how much he looks like grandpa. I have twin baby boys and one on the way and I don't want him on the roads in Indiana, I can assure you that.

Just to add some contextual information to the fact that this man is a habitual traffic offender with multiple DUI's, if you search the archives of public records for newspapers in Delphi from 1900 to present, you will find references to auto accidents this man caused, once putting himself in the hospital for a few days after crashing into a sign and two trees, once running another car off the road when RL was 36 years old...all between the hours of midnight and 4 am.

It's not unusual to have inmates, no matter what their supposed crimes are, to be in leg irons when they're taken to/from jail to court.

They may have a different procedure or set of protocols in that police department, but in my neck of the woods--- all of the arrestees who are going before a judge arrive in a large cargo van or similar vehicle. Rarely, do you see a single arrestee be given a ride by himself or herself.....like we see with RL.

The leg irons are likely standard procedure, but does seem brutal for an old man without violent convictions or charges. On TV the cops seem to have the option of being a bit flexible :).

Don't forget that everyone has their eyes on this case--- EVERYONE. The police chief, the lawmakers, the victim's families, the public and not to mention the media outlets that are covering this case.

You better believe the police are going to be doing everything "By the Book" when it comes to RL.

Oh you mean they all go as a group and even sit in the courtroom together until their turn?

Someone way upthread or maybe prior thread, NiN?, made note of a change in weight but I was TO and couldn't see the photo to compare. People under a lot of stress can lose weight fairly rapidly. I sure can if I'm very stressed and upset. I'd be upset to be in jail, so who knows why he's lost weight. MOO
I lost 6 lbs with the flu last week alone. Lol.

I think it is the sheriff (not positive). But it doesn't surprise me with such a high profile defendant.

Yes, that looks like Sheriff Leazenby. They're doing things by the book it appears.

Would the sheriff normally escort a probation violation hearing? I don't know him on sight so no idea if it's him lol.

It's Sheriff Tobe Lazenby escorting RL into court. I got him confused or thought he had shaved his tash

Leg irons is standard protocol for any inmate going to and from the courthouse to jail. (Not in every jurisdiction, mind you)

By the way, they even do the same thing with minors that are going to court from "juvie"

leg irons might be standard for transporting a prisoner from jail to the courts.

Is there an echo in here? :giggle:

There are plenty of articles, police magazines, etc...explaining this is the case...but I guess there are some that want to believe he's in shackles/waist chains because he's a big bad killer.

Yes. But, this is for the arrestees who arrive early in the morning. They are for the morning court cases. They arrive in a van, handcuffed together and walk in a single file out of the van and into the courtroom. They then sit in the courtroom and wait their turn to stand up before the Judge.

I have a fast metabolism and lost 15 pounds in one week with a really bad case of the flu.

Personally I have only ever seen accused murderers and kidnappers etc on their 'perp walk' so I wouldn't know. My only experience is ID and WS :p

Thanks for that info--I've been wondering how bad his record was.

First post, but if all of this stuff about RL is actually just about past offences/potential probation violations then I will be a little disappointed in LE's handling of this, because how can you expect people to come forward if you keep arresting people for things that aren't related to the crime? Obviously I am just sitting from the sidelines and don't know what's actually going on behind the scenes and how much evidence they have and all of that, so it's just my opinion, but I worry that somebody with information might see the show that LE put on when serving the search warrant at RL's property and then be hesitant to pass on information to the police (especially if they think it result in a similar situation for themselves).

LE might have very good reasons for doing everything that they are doing and I don't doubt their dedication to this case, so I don't want to judge anything prematurely or anything like that.

Hey, :fireworks: :welcome: :fireworks:

It's a move I've seen made on numerous cases where they have a suspect or strong POI but don't have enough to arrest for the crime. It's a tactic employed to put pressure and sometimes also to keep the public safe while buying more time before they have to make an arrest and start the speedy trial clock running.

They did this in the Hannah Graham case.

Sometimes it works.

Thanks Skib! I get people confused.

No worries, I obviously do too lol

Who was it that gave the interview at RL's property search? In my mind I had that as Lazenby but its not

The flu here has been just terrible. My boys both had it too and lemme tell you, having the flu while pregnant and also taking care of two sick ten month olds is no fun.

That said, I think his weight now has no bearing on the crimes committed then. :)

His nose looks like BG to me!

I was wondering if someone was going to mention he looks like a potato nose in that picture above also. I noticed at the very end of that video clip posted above at the very end when it stops ,and you can see him from the side profile... I noticed his hair is really lumpy it reminded me of how BGs hat or Hood looked in the photo... but I'm still on the fence and waiting
