They robbed and killed this young lady for, what $500 max? That is insane. They could have even worn masks and let her go...how on earth did they think they were smart enough to not get caught?

Two Gary teens charged as adults with murder in Portage woman’s shooting death

Two Gary teenagers are charged as adults with murder in perpetration of a robbery and felony robbery in the death of Adriana Saucedo, 27. Shaun Thompson, 16, and Jonathan Brown, 17, remain in custody without bond until an initial hearing scheduled via video conference for Wednesday before Porter Circuit Court Judge Mary Harper.

A 15-year-old boy was driving the car and later led police to her body in an abandoned Gary elementary school, according to court documents released Monday.

Brown, who police took in for questioning on Nov. 22 and was accompanied by his parents and attorney Robert Lewis, told police that while the three were on their way to Saucedo’s residence, the youngest teen “made a plan with everyone in the vehicle that they will be ripping Saucedo off and robbing her of her money,” documents said.

Brown told police that “no one in the vehicle had any marijuana with them to sell to Saucedo," adding in charging documents that the vehicle was low on gas so they went to a Luke gas station and used $20 provided by Saucedo to purchase gas before pulling into the parking lot where Thompson shot Saucedo.

Juvenile waived to adult court in Portage murder case

Roderick Silas, who was 15 when he was accused of joining in on the robbery and murder of a Portage woman last fall, was waived Wednesday to adult court to face charges.

Silas, now 16, who appeared in the same adult circuit courtroom as his two co-defendants have, did not oppose the waiver and acknowledged that prosecutors have sufficient evidence for the move. But in return for not opposing the waiver, prosecutors agreed to a proposed plea deal in the case, though the details are being kept under wraps for now.

Silas, of Gary, also was given the right to remain at the county juvenile detention center until sentencing as opposed to being transferred ahead of time to the county jail.

The co-defendants — Shaun Thompson, 17, and Jonathan Brown, 18, both of Gary — were charged directly as adults, she said. Each was a year younger at the time of the offense.
