Greenwood - An unsolved double murder in Franklin is the subject of a new book.

"Who Murdered Chynna?" details the July 2006 murders of Chynna Dickus and her stepson, Blake. Franklin police, state police and the FBI have all worked the case, but so far, no one has found their killer.

Chynna's mother, Marcia Anderson, asked author Carol Sissom to investigate the murders and share the victims' story.

The family of a little boy at the center of a murder mystery honoring his memory Saturday night and renewed the call for leads in his case.

On July 24, 2006, someone killed 10-year-old Blake Dickus and his stepmother, 26-year-old Chynna Dickus, in their Franklin home. More than eight years later, the crime is still unsolved.

Saturday, dozens gathered to remember Blake and help get the word out in hopes of tracking down the person responsible for his death. His mother was there as they launched balloons into the sky and said prayers of support.

Police hope brand-new information might generate fresh tips from the public almost a decade after a 10-year-old and his stepmother were found dead in their home.

That day, nine years ago this Friday, has forever changed Christina Dickus’ life.

"There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about this. Driving up to that home, seeing the caution tape around it. I’ll never forget," Dickus said Wednesday.

Police still looking for clues in cold case as anniversary looms

I just watched a great 2 part show on youtube regarding this case:

Hoping the Vidocq Society can make some progress in this cold case.

Brutal murder of boy, step-mom still unsolved 10 years later

One of the most gruesome crimes to ever happen in Johnson County is still unsolved, ten years later. A woman and her 10-year old step son were stabbed to death, police say, for no apparent reason.

Ten years have passed in the blink of an eye for the Dickus family. Unable to truly move forward, they’re still stuck in 2006. They do, however, find a ray of light through police, who believe they have a break in the case.

Borges believes the Dickus case is related to a string of five burglaries in Franklin that were similar.

All of the break ins had window screens that had been cut in a T shape.
The burglaries all happened during the summer months of June and July.
They were all committed during the daytime.
The victims in each case reported ransacking and refrigerators that had been gone through.
Each happened within a half mile radius of the Dickus home, on Aberdeen Drive.
One occurred on the same day and street as the Dickus murders.

“We believe there is a direct correlation. We believe the scene are connected and we’re seeking the public’s help. (We’re) trying to find out who is responsible for those burglaries as well as the homicide,” said Detective Sgt. Borges.

I’ve been a member here for some time and recently moved (January). I didn’t know it at the time, but my new home is directly behind the Dickus home. It’s an interesting neighborhood. It wasn’t finished all the way and the first thing that struck me was the path behind my home (and theirs) that leads to the woods. There are trails, storage facility, several commercial businesses within a few blocks. I have a feeling it was likely a young addict who lived in the neighborhood. Probably had kids (looking through fridges), and likely sold stolen items for drugs through the dope market here.
