I started watching the first episode last night, and when he said he had a Lamborghini, that set my hinky meter off right away. Why would a family man even WANT one of those? After watching this docuseries I came away knowing only two things to be entirely true... 1) the Barnetts are quite possibly the worst foster parents in the world and 2) Michael definitely needs to come clean about a few more "things"
I've heard of that operation. It was invented during the polio era, and also post-WWII, mainly to treat legs of unequal length, which can cause scoliosis and other serious issues. It was never intended to simply make a person taller. One of my dear friends from college is a little person, and she once described a surgeon, telling her about this super fun 'surgery' at I think age 16... sometimes even people of average height, hoping to gain an inch or two, elect to go through this. there was a story about vain men doing it in I think GQ a couple of years ago, which is absolutely insane to me... anyway, as you may imagine, it is a long hideous operation with a long, hideous convalescence wherein you are bedbound.
Funny I just read about a 6-foot tall guy who did this surgery to get to six feet seven inches.I've heard of that operation. That doctor should have their license revoked.Funny I just read about a 6-foot tall guy who did this surgery to get to six feet seven inches.

If you are talking about Barnett's sons, at some point they were being homeschooled.I also noticed during that first episode that there was no mention of any of these kids being in school. What's up with that?

You can do these procedures for people with dwarfism as well, which is also controversial. It could be done for achondroplasia, though, not Natalia's condition. She doesn't just have short legs, she has all kind of other issues. She needed different kinds of surgeries. And yet, here we are...

Meet the Men Paying Six Figures to Get Taller—by Having Their Legs Broken
A growing number of men are undergoing a radical and expensive surgery to grow anywhere from three to six inches. The catch: It requires having both your femurs broken. GQ goes inside the booming world of leg lengthening.www.gq.com
I don't know if pubic hair claims can even be believed. But even if true, there is a condition called precocious puberty. It doesn't make someone an adult.I started watching the first episode last night, and when he said he had a Lamborghini, that set my hinky meter off right away. Why would a family man even WANT one of those?
All I knew going into this was that there was a story a few years ago about a "child" who was adopted under suspect circumstances, and while I know that girls go through puberty earlier than boys, if I undressed a "6-year-old" and they had, as Michael put it, full pubic hair, I'd be high-tailing it to the emergency room.
(I have a cousin who was starting to sprout pubic and underarm hair at age six, and she was put on puberty blockers until she was 9 years old.)
The story about Jacob being a child prodigy is apparently true, and like most prodigies who are paraded around by their parents, he eventually crashed and burned. If you are talking about Barnett's sons, at some point they were being homeschooled.
Yep, the genius is living in his father's basement. The story about Jacob being a child prodigy is apparently true, and like most prodigies who are paraded around by their parents, he eventually crashed and burned.
You can see a "60 Minutes" episode about him (Natalia's in it, in a dinner-table scene) and he also did a TED talk and has a YouTube channel that he hasn't added anything do in quite a few years. The "60 Minutes" episode is also viewable on YT.
I deleted the unwatched episodes from my Tivo, because everyone's saying they're poor quality and don't really give much information.
Their biological offspring were not left alone in the apartment to fend for themselves. I find what happened to Natalia absolutely outrageous. The kids in this family were all damaged by this set of humans. Not a single on of them deserved the crappy choices these people made on their behalf, though behalf is not really a good word because these decisions were done to benefit the adults. This young woman has suffered greatly but she has found love and care. These young men have no one in line to help save them. I feel bad for all of the children who were part of this awful situation.

She was adopted from a foreign country, then that first family gave her up. She eventually ended up adopted by the Barnetts, who had the court to re-age her into a legal adult and left her alone in an apartment to fend for herself. And because the court re-aged her, she couldn't even go to school or get any other benefits children are supposed to get. She also didn't get the medical care she needed for her severe disabilities. It's a miracle she is alive.
