But by keeping quiet and not admitting anything, there was the chance that the Garda slipped up in some way and the case could get thrown out on a technicality. There was no benefit for him in admitting anything and if he pointed the finger at Boy B he would be admitting it. Also, it would have opened him up to further questioning about it all being planned and the level of planning. He took his chances for his own benefit. Thankfully the Garda were impeccable in all they did.

Absolutely, sorry I didnt see your post before I replied saying basically the same thing:)

I wonder why Ana’s mom got so concerned when she heard that boy B had invited Ana out? Did she suspect Ana was had a crush on boy A? Did Ana tell her? Ana’s dad clearly was unaware, but what about her mom? She probably knew boy B was not Ana’s interest, but she must have known the two boys were friends.. what did she know about boy A to get so scared? Did he have a bad reputation, I wonder? Or just maternal instinct?

I believe she could have known that boy A possibly had a reputation, it is MOO that he had a reputation as a nasty bully for a few years prior,as i say purely my own opinion from things I have read but not based on fact at all

I'm guessing that his parents or solicitor advised him to say nothing,no matter what,if he opened his mouth to implicate boy b then he has to admit to being there and being at the very least complicit.
I think they were all working on the assumption there was no evidence, that's why he was so shocked they found Ana's blood on his shoes, because he thought his mammy had taken care of his clothes and didnt realise her blood was on his boots, and at 13 theres every chance he didnt know about DNA from semen(I know, sounds familiar:rolleyes:) could incriminate him. JMO

They tried to have the blood on the boots dismissed as evidence, so with the jury told not to use Boy B's testimony against Boy A (although what are the chances they werent influenced by that, it's pretty damning) maybe they were hoping to have the DNA written off as already being on the ground and her top made contact with it - or they had a romantic encounter etc - and somebody later killed her? As for not disposing of the backpack, her blood might not have been visible and he didn't realise what forensics were capable of retrieving? Or he was just that arrogant that he thought no one would link him to it - he was naive enough to come up with the ridiculous story of being attacked in the park to explain his injuries rather than just say he'd fallen or something. That mistake put him in the park at the time of the murder, let the Garda know he'd been injured, and they took his boots with the blood on them (lucky for him Mummy had done a good job with the laundry for his other clothes!).

I was trying to find the article - the account of boy B - and could not. Maybe they are trying to spare Ana’s family of the gruesome details. But I remember when boy B described boy A flipping Ana, he mentioned something about his eyes being empty.

I wonder if boy A dissociates like some killers do, and this is why he is able to keep silent.

"This culminated in Boy B telling Daly and Gannon that Ana had gone into Room 1 with Boy A. Despite being told to leave by Boy A, Boy B decided to explore the rest of the house. Then the sound of “shuffling” caused him to run to Room 1, where he saw Boy A “kind of flip” Ana. He described a judo-type move to the detectives.
Boy A started to choke her and pull off her clothes, he said. Ana was crying and saying: “No, no. Don’t do this.”
He said at this point both Boy A and Ana turned to look at him in the doorway, which made him run away. Boy A had a “blank look on his face”, he said."

Ana Kriégel murder trial: The complete story

Sat in Costa ... pondering...

I wonder if ... both boys had planned - not to murder Ana but to have 1 or both sexually attack/rape her - but she fought back harder than either expected and at that point Boy A hit her with the wood and Boy B stepped back ... ONLY maybe at that point, becoming shocked by what Boy A was doing ...

What do you think of this quote:

"When Daly showed him a photograph of the crime scene with Ana’s body pixelated out, Boy B held his head in his hands and responded: “Jesus, one of my closest friends.” He quickly added he was referring to Boy A, not Ana.
“Wait a minute. Holy *advertiser censored*. Oh my God,” he said when shown a photograph of the insulation tape that had been wrapped around Ana’s neck. He told gardaí he had recently given the tape to Boy A."

That's the only thing that makes me think he didn't hang around until the end of the attack - it seems like a genuine reaction to something he wasn't expecting, or was he just reacting to seeing a photo of the body and that was what shocked him? Also he later he backtracks says they aren't good friends as they fell out over a set of keys.

To add ... if boy A now came out and 'told the truth' it is always going to be more believable than anything Boy B says as he's told lie after lie after lie.
100% agree, if he said the sky was blue I'd double check

Yes - this is my opinion as well

I can mention any number of group attack cases where this kind of thing has happened.

e.g. in the Kercher case (and putting aside any discussion of our American friend), Meredith appears to have put up fierce resistance before being fatally stabbed. One offender stayed, while the other(s) ran. This case also features a botched/bottled rape.

There are many more I can think of. Group attacks are often far more violent than solo attacks and then the force level gets out of hand and the victim gets killed.

Wasn't Boy A seen on CCTV with Ana outside the house?

I am not sure he was lurking inside.

IMO they probably took her in there and then bashed her from behind. I wonder if the stick weapon was hidden there.

IMO he was trying to fit up Boy A

I might be wrong but I’m sure there was no cctv at all of boy a and ana together. Only cctv of boy a on his own walking to and from the direction of the crime scene.
If there was cctv outside Glenwood house it would of been easy to establish what time both boys had left. We still don’t know for certain if boy B ran away first or if they both left together, there is only cctv showing them both leaving the park separately. Within around 5 mins of each other.

May 14 2018: The day Ana went missing

8.15am: Ana’s mother Geraldine wakes her daughter up and kisses her goodbye before she goes to work. This was the last time she saw her alive.

4.02pm: Geraldine Kriegél receives a missed call from Ana’s phone.

4.03pm: Geraldine Kriegél receives a second missed call from Ana’s phone. She is unable to answer because she is in a meeting.

4.30pm: BOY A arrives home from school.

4.45pm: BOY A goes out. His mother told the trial she assumed he was calling to friends.

4.51pm: CCTV shows BOY B walking alone down the side of a house near Ana’s home in Leixlip, Co. Kildare.

4.55pm: BOY B calls for Ana.

4.57pm: CCTV shows somebody wearing a backpack walking along a laneway in the park. Gardaí believe this is BOY A. He denies it.

5.01pm: CCTV shows Ana and BOY B walking in the direction of the park. He is walking ahead of her and she appears to be following behind.

5.05pm: CCTV shows boy with backpack wearing gloves walking on a path beside a field which leads to the abandoned house. Gardaí believe this is BOY A. Again, he denies it.

5.08pm: Man sees a “tall, gangly boy” with a backpack dropping into a ditch and into the field leading up to the abandoned house. Gardaí believe this is BOY A.

5.10pm: Geraldine Kriegél calls her daughter back but it goes to her voicemail.

5.14pm: CCTV shows two people walking diagonally across field leading to the abandoned house. Prosecution claims this is BOY B and Ana.

5.20pm: Geraldine Kriegél arrives home and becomes “immediately concerned” when she learns Ana has left the house with BOY B

5.32pm: Ana’s phone pings off a mast on the Lucan side of the park where she was last seen alive. BOY A’s phone was pinging off the same mast at the same time.

5.40pm: Geraldine Kriegél walks up to a nearby park looking for Ana. Gardaí believe Ana is already dead at this stage.

5.49pm: CCTV shows BOY B coming back into view of cameras at BMX track. He appears to be walking towards the ranger’s hut. He had been absent since 5.16pm and couldn't account for that 33min absence during his Garda interviews.

5.56pm: CCTV shows BOY B near ranger’s hut.

6.03pm: CCTV shows boy whom prosecution believe to be BOY A passing same camera BOY B passed a few minutes beforehand.

5.55pm: BOY A calls over to friend’s house. His friend told the trial he looked scared and had some blood on his t-shirt. He was also limping. When he asked him what happened, he claimed he had been jumped in the park.

6pm: BOY A returns home looking “very pale and shaking” according to his mother who also noticed blood on his clothes.

6.15pm: BOY A’s father drives his son back to the park to see if they can find the two men he claimed to have been attacked by. He makes complaint to park ranger who described BOY A as looking like a “rabbit caught in headlights”.

6.40pm: Geraldine Kriegél goes looking for Ana in her car.

6.45pm: CCTV shows BOY A’s father driving towards park with his son in the passenger seat.

6.53pm: CCTV shows BOY A and his father arriving at the ranger’s hut.

9pm: Ana’s parents report her to Gardaí as a Missing Person.

i think you are right - I might have seen an incorrect report

So yes - then he probably was waiting to ambush her

Dont suppose you could post a link to Meredith's thread? I can never find anything using search!

Ana Kriégel murder trial: The complete story

Thank you. “Blank look” is probably true. And something people describe on the face of murderers or sadistic killers.

To add ... if boy A now came out and 'told the truth' it is always going to be more believable than anything Boy B says as he's told lie after lie after lie.

After he said “you must be kidding me” when told about Ana’s DNA on his shoes, and made a huge lie about being assaulted in the park, I doubt he will be more believable than boy B.

Boy B was trying to wiggle out of luring Ana our of the house and watching her being killed. Boy A was trying to wiggle out of being the killer in a zombie mask. Can you imagine how dangerous to the community boy A is?
