GazaCNN —
Multiple militants from Gaza have entered Israeli territory, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Saturday, shortly after a barrage of rockets left one person dead and at least three injured.

Palestinian militant group Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.

Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif released a recorded message, announcing operation “Al-Aqsa Storm” and saying the Palestinian militant group “targeted the enemy positions, airports and military positions with 5,000 rockets.”

The IDF has warned Israelis who live near Gaza to stay in their homes.

The rockets, which were witnessed by a CNN producer in Gaza, prompted sirens as far north as the Tel Aviv area, east to Beer Sheva, and many other locations in between.

Hey everyone,

Websleuths does not have enough staff, time, or specific knowledge of all Israel/Palestine/Middle Eastern affairs to be able to vet / research all the background of the various publications that members are sending us for approval. Chances are, we don't know any more than you do about a particular source.

Members are going to have to do their own due diligence by thoroughly checking out the background and credibility of the sources they are reading. If you are convinced that a source is legitimate, go ahead and link to it. If your post gets Reported by other members with an explanation as to any concern, WS staff will review it at that time.

Also, as Websleuths is located in the USA, linked articles need to be from MSM, government or other well recognized agencies or individuals, and articles need to be in English or with English translation.

Thanks to all for your cooperation.

Bumping from a previous thread.

Hey everyone,

This post lands at random.

Discussion of the last zillion +/- years of Middle Eastern affairs, religion, etc is derailing this discussion and takes on a life of its own. Please stay on track with the discussion centering on the October 7th attack and more directly related, current issues and events going forward (the hostages, the current war, the current attempts to resolve, etc).

Thank you.

A statement from Schneider Children’s hospital, where four mothers and four child hostages were released, says that doctors had conducted a preliminary examination and said they were all in good physical condition.

A total of 13 Israeli hostages were freed Friday and transferred to three separate hospitals across Israel.

Danielle Aloni, her daughter Emilia Aloni, Doron Asher, and her daughters Raz Asher and Aviv Asher, and Keren Munder, her mother Ruti Munder and her son Ohad Munder were being treated Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikva. Five other Israeli hostages, all elderly women, are being cared for at Wolfson Hospital in Holon.

Wolfson says some of the women are “feeble and exhausted” and are not likely to be allowed to go home tomorrow, Ynet reports.

This is in my home town. Why disrupt and harass people shopping in a mall on Black Friday?

They should be protesting at the Capitol Building which gives them media coverage and a more positive and attractive look that could help in gaining support for their views.

Instead they do this. I don't get it.

Leaders at Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel in the city of Petach Tikvah said the institution is examining eight released hostages who arrived there today.

They include four children, three mothers, and a grandmother, the CEO of the hospital, Dr. Efrat Bron-Harlev, said during a news conference.

"Their physical condition is good and they're currently undergoing medical and emotional assessment by the medical and psychological team," she said.

Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel was one of six hospitals designated by Israel's government to receive released hostages and check out their physical and mental health, a health ministry official said.

Philippines president says additional national may be among hostages in Gaza

The Philippines’ president, Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., says he is “overjoyed to confirm” that a Filipino, Gelienor “Jimmy” Pacheco, was among the group of 11 foreign nationals to be released as Hamas hostages in Gaza on Friday, in a deal negotiated by Bangkok with Iran, Qatar, and Egypt.

[...]

Marcos Jr. says Pacheco was “now safely in the custody of officials in our Israel embassy,” and thanked “the work of the Philippine Foreign Service in securing his release,” and Qatar “for their invaluable assistance.”

He says the Philippines remains “concerned over the whereabouts of our other national, Ms. Noralyn Babadilla, and are sparing no effort to locate and secure her if she is indeed found to be one of the hostages.”

“We pray for the continued success of the truce and for all hostages to be released,” he says.

Israel prepares to receive second group of hostages slated for release later Saturday

[...]

On Friday night, Israel received the list of hostages who are slated to be released Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said.

After reviewing the list, Israeli security officials notified the hostages’ families, the PMO said.

Israeli authorities had notified both the families of the hostages being released Friday as well as those who were not on the first list.

Channel 12 reported that the latest list of hostages set for release Saturday has 13 names and includes more children.

Only four of the 13 Israelis released Friday were children. Hamas and other terror factions abducted some 240 people on October 7, including about 40 children.

Netanyahu’s office has urged the media to act with caution and avoid publicizing the names of those on the list before they are back in Israel.

Sirens sound in Israel’s Upper Galilee region near Lebanon border

Sirens warning on incoming projectiles are sounding in northern Israel, in the Upper Galilee area near the Lebanese border.

The alerts are trigged in the communities of Yiftah and Mevo’ot Hermon.

It is not clear if missiles or rockets from Lebanon triggered the sirens, but they came after Israel said it shown down a surface-to-air guided missile fired from Lebanese territory a short time ago and responded to the attack by targeting Hezbollah sites.

''The first group of hostages released Friday by Hamas under a deal with Israel included 13 Israeli women and children, 10 Thai citizens and one Filipino citizen.

Here is what we know about the freed Israelis:
  • Yafa Adar, 85: Adar is a founder of the Nir Oz kibbutz and is the oldest person to be taken hostage on October 7. Her eldest grandson was also abducted, and is still held hostage, said a Nir Oz spokesperson.
  • Margalit Moses, 77: The mother of three and grandmother of 10 is a retired biology teacher. She is also a cancer survivor who has diabetes, “fibromyalgia, and takes many additional medications,” said the Hostages and Missing Families Forum in Israel.
  • Hana Katzir, 76: She is also a member of Kibbutz Nir Oz and the wife of the late Rami Katzir, 79, who was killed in their home. Her son Elad was also kidnapped and is still in Gaza.
  • Adina Moshe, 72: The retired educator and Nir Oz resident is a mother of four and grandmother of 12. Her husband David (Sa’id) Moshe was killed in their home on October 7.
  • Ohad Munder, 9: The kibbutz spokesperson for Nir Oz said Munder “came to Nir Oz to visit family” when he was abducted alongside family members.
  • Doron Katz Asher, 34, Raz Asher, 4, Aviv Asher, 2: Doron visited Nir Oz with her family and was kidnapped with her two daughters, Aviv and Raz, as well as other family members.''

How will captured October 7 terrorists be tried, and on what charges?

For crimes committed in Israel: In that case, the relevant court would be the Beersheba District Court since it holds jurisdiction over the Gaza border region and the southern towns where Hamas perpetrated the October 7 massacres.

Another option would be to try them under military law, where the death penalty could be sought by the prosecution for charges of murder.

Prof. Barak Medina of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of Law notes that Palestinian terrorists are frequently tried under military law, but says that using the military courts might blemish the international legitimacy of the legal process.

The terrorists could also be held in detention indefinitely under the law for illegal combatants, which would make it easier for the state to release them in any exchange for the hostages currently being held by Hamas in Gaza.

There seems to be an incredible erosion of trust. That will make peace a very difficult goal.
