Analysis: Qatari team arrives in Israel hoping a fragile deal will hold

DOHA, Qatar — Amid a flurry of diplomatic activity, a Qatari “operations team” has landed in Tel Aviv to “ensure the deal continues to run smoothly, and discuss further details of the ongoing deal,” a diplomat with knowledge of events told NBC News today.

It’s a sign that these are days of both hope and fear.

Today a Hamas official said that not enough aid was reaching northern Gaza and said that it could threaten the entire agreement. Within hours the International Red Crescent said 61 trucks had been dispatched to the region today, the "largest" so far.

Biden hopeful American citizens to be released

President Joe Biden has secured the release of two American citizens as part of the larger group of around 50 hostages to the four-day pause in fighting, a White House official told NBC News.

"We are early in the process that will see at least 50 women and children released during the first phase of the agreement," the official on condition of anonymity today. "We are hopeful that will include three dual national women and children, who are American citizens. This will unfold over the coming days. We will not comment on individual cases as the process is underway."

Noting:

According to Israeli sources, officials in Jerusalem are pushing to up the number of hostages released on Saturday by one, after it became apparent that one hostage was set to be freed without her mother, who was also taken into Gaza by Palestinian terror group Hamas on October 7.

As per the details of the Qatari and Egyptian-mediated truce and hostage release deal, families cannot be separated in the releases.

Last-minute discussions, headed by the coordinator for hostages and missing persons Gal Hirsch, were taking place early on Saturday to facilitate the release of the unnamed mother, Israeli media reported.

Not good.

I hope that when the exchange of hostages for prisoners is over that Israel continues the war.

Pro-Israel teacher hides in Queens high school as ‘radicalized’ students riot: ‘They want her fired’

Hundreds of “radicalized” kids rampaged through the halls of a Queens high school this week for nearly two hours after they discovered a teacher had attended a pro-Israel rally — forcing the terrified educator to hide in a locked office as the teen mob tried to push its way into her classroom, The Post has learned.

The mayhem at Hillcrest High School in Jamaica unfolded shortly after 11 a.m. Monday in what students called a pre-planned protest over the teacher’s Facebook profile photo showing her at a pro-Israel rally on Queens Oct. 9 holding a poster saying, “I stand with Israel.”

Many tried to barge into the teacher’s classroom despite school staffers blocking their entry.

“Everyone was yelling ‘Free Palestine!’” a senior said.

“Everyone was screaming ‘(The teacher) needs to go!’” a ninth-grader said.

School administrators and the NYPD, which responded to the school at about 11:20 am, got wind of their plans just in time to rush the teacher into an office and lock the door, another educator said.

Students recorded the commotion, posting multiple videos, some set to pulsing Arabian music, on TikTok.

Egypt says it received 'positive signals' over possible extension of Gaza truce

Egypt said on Saturday it had received positive signals from all parties over a possible extension of the Gaza truce for one or two days.

Diaa Rashwan, the head of Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS), said in a statement that the country was holding extensive talks with all parties to reach an agreement over extending the four-day truce, which “means the release of more detainees in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.”

The body of a Tanzanian student who went missing in Israel after the bloody Hamas attack last month is due to be returned home on Sunday, his family said.

Clemence Felix Mtenga, 22, was one of two Tanzanians reported missing after the 7 October attack that saw around 1,200 people killed and at least 240 taken hostage, according to Israeli officials.

Tanzania’s foreign ministry confirmed Mtenga’s death in a statement on 18 November, but did not say how he had been killed.

“We were to receive the body today but there are changes. We expect to have it tomorrow,” his sister Christina Mtenga told AFP by phone on Saturday.

She said the funeral would take place on Tuesday in the family’s home district of Rombo in the Kilimanjaro area of northern Tanzania.

Apparent slight delay in expected release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza

[...]

According to Channel 12 news, there is still negotiation over whether 13 or 14 Israelis will be released today, although it is unclear if that is a factor in the delay.

While Israel has said it is expecting 13 hostages, the Israel Prison Service has made preparations for the release of 42 Palestinian prisoners — under the terms of the agreement for a lull in fighting, three prisoners are released for every Israeli hostage.

Channel 12 says the process of the release could begin at 5 p.m. — yesterday’s release of 13 hostages was also drawn out.

“This is manipulation by [Hamas’s Gaza leader] Yahya Sinwar,” says former hostage negotiator Yaron Blum.

Senior official: Reports that Gaza fighting lull already extended are ‘ridiculous’ and ‘false’

A senior official involved in the indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas calls reports regarding the extension of the ongoing truce in Gaza “ridiculous” and “false.”

The official tells The Times of Israel that it’s highly unlikely any deal extending the temporary ceasefire beyond four days will be finalized more than a day or even hours ahead of time.

Strange, considering fathers and grandfathers are left behind according to previous reports. IMO

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi says the military will immediately return to striking in the Gaza Strip once the ceasefire with Hamas ends.Halevi, speaking to soldiers, says the ceasefire and hostage deal would not have happened without the IDF's pressure on Hamas."We do not intend, do not want, and are not ready to stop this effort before we return all the hostages... it is our moral duty to bring them back," he says.Halevi says the IDF will use the pause in fighting to "study, to better prepare our abilities and also to rest a little.""And we will return immediately at the end of the ceasefire to attacking Gaza, to maneuver in Gaza. We will do it to dismantle Hamas and also to create great pressure to return as quickly as possible and as many hostages as possible, down to the last of them," he says."We have an obligation to fight and also to risk our lives so that [Israeli citizens] can return to live in safety, and we have hostages that we will do everything to bring them home," Halevi adds.

Release of the abductees - all updates

17:45 - IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi: "Immediately at the end of the ceasefire, we will return to attacking and maneuvering in Gaza"

In his remarks today, the chief of staff referred to the hostage deal and the continuation of the attacks after the ceasefire. "Yesterday, we completed the first group of women and children who returned, and today a second group will arrive. This is a ceasefire that would not have happened in this agreement without the pressure exerted by the entire IDF. Everyone contributes his part to the war. We do not intend to, do not want to, and are not willing to stop this effort before we bring back all the abductees because really every one of them is ours. We have a supreme moral obligation to bring them back."

Hamas executes three West Bank Palestinians for 'spying for Israel'

Their execution was later confirmed to have been committed by a firing squad, according to a document published by Hamas's military wing in the West Bank.

Two Palestinians were murdered in the city of Tulkarm and another was murdered in Jenin in the West Bank on Friday under suspicion of spying for Israel.

Many people had either participated or watched the event and took very graphic photos and videos documenting the murder, which can be seen on X, formerly known as Twitter.

A Palestinian mob can be seen in the videos abusing the bodies and hanging them on an electric pole as crowds surrounded the area, screaming "You traitors!" N12 reported.
