The title of this article is somewhat misleading. The article quotes PA leader Abbas as saying that he is ready to take responsibiity for Gaza if various conditions are met. It would include the Gaza strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Abbas said. And that, together, would constitute the "State of Palestine." Call me sceptical.

Sounds like Erdogan's government made every effort to have law enforcement protect US troops at the base, and made sure that no US troops were harmed.

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says Israeli ground forces have fully encircled Gaza City, and have split the territory in two.He says troops led by the Golani Brigade's reconnaissance unit "reached the coastline and are holding it.""Today there is north Gaza and south Gaza," Hagari says.He says the IDF will still allow civilians to leave north Gaza and head south.

Yeah. It was a quick post.
The protesters were treated to water cannons and tear gas.

Follow up to that post from last week where that guy was gonna stage a protest at Incirlik AFB.
Came up in my newsfeed. So, now we know what happened.

Ambassador says IDF is making "every effort" to get civilians out of harm's way as humanitarian pressure grows

Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Herzog said Sunday that Israel is “making every effort” to get the civilian population in Gaza “out of harm’s way.”

“We're making every effort to distinguish between terrorists and civilian population. We call the civilian population to move to the south out of harm's way, and Hamas is doing everything they can to keep them in harm’s way,” Herzog said on CBS’ Face the Nation.

Herzog called the deaths of civilians “tragic,” but said Israel cannot "allow Hamas immunity because they hide behind civilians."

Herzog said Israel would be open to the idea of a humanitarian pause if it means getting hostages out of Gaza, but said Hamas is “not serious” about a hostage release agreement and is “playing for time.”

Israeli military says its ground troops have reached the coast of Gaza

The Israeli military said Sunday that its soldiers had reached positions along the coast of Gaza as part of the expansion of its ground operations.

The 36th Division of the Israel Defense Forces reached the coast as it worked to encircle Hamas forces and strike targets in Gaza, the IDF said in a news release.

“In the last 12 hours, the soldiers of the division struck around 50 targets, including combat zones, operational residences, outposts, military positions and underground infrastructure, and eliminated terrorists in close-quarter combat,” the statement added.

It is so very clear that HAMAS is using these hospitals, ambulances, and routes that should be "safe" to hide and launch attacks. There has now been nearly 4 weeks of warnings for people to move out of these locations. Those organizations that pushed back saying they can't move patients, they won't evacuate.. I think they might need to be looked at. WHY? So it might be difficult to accomplish, it isn't ideal (what is in a war zone??), they are worried about their patients, but NOT moving is putting those patients in more danger because HAMAS is in that hospital making it a target.

I said it before, but if they would have began moving people way back when, they would be moved by now. Of course the best scenario is HAMAS leaves the hospital and patients can be cared for without Israel attacking, but when terrorists are operating in and under your hospital, you and your patients are NOT safe even if Israel isn't bombing the area.
I'm not so sure that those who refuse to evacuate patients aren't taking orders from Hamas. jmo

Israel plans to maintain significant security control over Gaza after war — official

Israel intends to maintain significant control over the Gaza Strip even after the war, an Israeli official says.

“I don’t see any situation in which Israel doesn’t have ultimate security responsibility in Gaza,” says the official in a Hebrew-language briefing with Israeli reporters at the Kirya in Tel Aviv.

The official adds that after Hamas is toppled, “it won’t be enough to do just a rehabilitation of Gaza.”

“It must go through a process of ‘de-Nazification,'” continues the official. “This culture [of seeking to kill Jews] still exists in the Palestinian Authority.”

Israeli official optimistic about prospects for normalization with Saudis after war

An Israeli official strikes an optimistic note on the prospects of normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia after the war.

“Wise people are sitting in Saudi Arabia and in Israel,” says the official. “It will be possible to continue the process we started before the war afterwards — with the condition that we win.”

According to the White House, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman agreed in a phone call with Biden to eventually “build on” the US-brokered negotiations that had been underway to normalize ties.
