May I respectfully suggest that in some murder cases, there may be reasons why those close to the case are left devastated, but would perhaps have reason to not want the murderer known publicly and/or not want him punished? There could any number of reasons, such as fear of retribution, fear of someone who links back to you or your family, etc.

It's very hard to imagine, but if I stretch my mind a bit, I can imagine situations where I'd perhaps be gutted, utterly devastated at the murders, but have reason to not want the murderer caught, especially if I thought it wouldn't happen again. There's earthly justice, as in the prison/hanging kind, but many of us believe in an ultimate justice. Perhaps, in some situations, that is enough sometimes. I don't mean enough absolutely, obviously, but enough in that person's mind. I wonder.

That person might do much in wanting to keep the memory of his/her family alive, might give interviews, etc., but balk at helping find the killer...
No, it's a very fair point. My only issue is that if she is publicly saying she will do anything to help find the killer but privately not doing that -- it quite naturally leads to confusion. And perhaps also why the investigators weren't happy.

I just can't imagine him taking the risk of being seen with bleeding hands (they'd still be bleeding if he were cut that bad, even after a couple of hours of "stauching"). Maybe found a pair of gloves at the house? Maybe one of the things he was looking for? Did he go through any clothing drawers? Seriously, he had to have had bloody hands.

Also quite possible he just covered his hands with the sleeves of Mikio's sweater that he stole (always the second thing I forget whenever anyone asks what the killer stole).

I think we've mentioned this here before, but I wonder about older teenage acquaintances of the 13 year-old next door. Teenagers often have acquaintances that very few people know about, simply because they're constantly forming new relationships, dropping relationships, etc. If that were the case, maybe the family has an idea but wouldn't want anyone to know?

Actually that makes quite a bit of sense. I can see, especially a teenager/young person, with their hands resting on the wheel as they sit in their vehicle at the guard gate, sleeves pulled over them on a winter morning.

Answered this already earlier on, I think.

For me, Mikio never runs. As far as he knows, he's trying to stop that killer getting to his son in bed. He would be dead seconds later before he ever knew what happened to Rei.

And if the killer went down to confront Mikio, he would then have had to chase to the killer back up the stairs only to be stabbed on them, and then fall back down again. Doesn't scan for me.

ETA: according to the TMPD, no, there is no chance.

Thank you for answering my questions--and your patience with my questions!

I may not have been clear, so I apologise. I wasn't suggesting Mikio tried to run away in a negative sense, only that he might have tried to prevent the killer from getting (back?) up the stairs. The scenario I was picturing fits what you and the TMPD have said almost exactly, with the exception of how it starts.

I pictured Mikio being confronted in the entrance hall, pushing past the killer to rush up the stairs and protect his family. As he's climbing the stairs with the killer behind him, the killer stabs at his legs, incapacitating him. The killer manages to overpower Mikio, climbs past him on the stairs, and from that point on the scenario is exactly as you describe with the killer attacking Mikio from above.

I think it's almost certain both hands were injured and are now scarred

Now, as long as he has the guts to cover his arms, the wrist scars in the US would faze no one. So the kid was a cutter in school, what's the big deal? He may be talking about bullying, about difficult parents...BTW, I won't be surprised if one of the parents, or siblings if he has them, are moody, so he would not be 100% off the mark.

It looks almost like a flag with red, white and blue stripes. The closest would be the French flag, but the colours are backwards. I think the plane might be a WWII B-25 Bomber.

The logo almost looks a bit like a reversed Air France logo, but that can't be what it is:

Yes it does look similar. I actually thought it might be more Scandinavian (top right, though it’s not the same)

He was strangled bare hands, face-down. That's my understanding.
Unless “bare hands” means by a chokehold, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone being strangled like that before. That’s super weird.

But I’ve also never heard of someone doing a quadruple homicide in a duplex and then hanging around afterward, so I guess just add it to the list.

It does look like a flag, but obviously not a country flag. I wonder if I could recreate it since it's so blurry, then upload the created image to google images or look elsewhere for such? Hmmm.

I wonder if there are WWII plane collector-type forums where we could look. It is a WWII plane, right? This may take awhile, but I'll see if I can check into this in the next day or two.

Does anyone have any idea what type of calendar this is? It looks to be something like a classroom calendar. With a plane on each page???

Or, is this the front page of a calendar? Is the "9" the year? Meaning Heisei year 9, or 1997? Not sure how this relates to the logo, but I'm just trying to figure out what I'm looking at. A daily calendar, with this particular page being that for the 9th of the month, or the front of a calendar?

I was obsessed with model airplanes when I was a kid, and to me it looks like a caricatured version of a B-25:

There may be some photos in the article, or we are always happy to visit and even ask, I just need to formulate the question in the right way.

Yes my cousin is a pilot and confirmed what Reddit said: B25 Mitchell, I think it was
