Jerry Sandusky’s Son Jeff Charged with Child Sex Abuse

A son of Jerry Sandusky — the former Penn State football coach convicted of molesting a string of boys — was charged Monday with sexual abuse of a child, court records show.

Jeff Sandusky, 41, was suspended from his job at the State Correctional Institution in Rockview, Pa., pending resolution of the charges — 12 felony counts that include criminal solicitation, corruption of a minor and child *advertiser censored*.

It was not immediately clear if Jeff Sandusky, who was held in lieu of $200,000 bail, has an attorney. A lawyer for Jerry Sandusky said he had just learned of the charges...

So sad. The repercussions of child sexual abuse are long-lasting and far-reaching. No one will ever be able to convince me that Sandusky didn't abuse his own children. Especially after this news.

This is likely an unpopular opinion, but I have even LESS sympathy for abusers who were themselves abused because they KNOW exactly the fear, shame and self-hatred their actions cause and they choose to do it anyway. I will never believe that anyone has an unalterable destiny to abuse a child. My reasons are deeply personal, but they won't change.

The state Corrections Department said that because of the charges, Jeffrey Sandusky was suspended without pay Monday from employment as a corrections officer at Rockview State Prison, near State College. He had been hired in August 2015.

Pennsylvania State Police began an investigation in November 2016 after a child claims to have received text messages from Sandusky, including some that asked for naked photographs.

The explicit text messages where shared with the child's father, who then notified police.

According to the criminal complaint a second child was also abused dating back to 2013.

Sandusky incessantly asked the younger girl to send him explicit pictures in March 2016, the complaint says. In one text, he allegedly asked for a topless photo and told her it was “not weird because he studied medicine.” He also asked the girl to send photos of herself urinating and changing clothes, the complaint says.

Victim No. 1's father contacted police on Nov. 21, 2016, and said Sandusky sent his son texts requesting the material on March 1 and 2 of that year. The father then provided proof of those messages to police, per the complaint. In one message, Sandusky allegedly said it wasn't weird to receive the material because he is "studying medicine."

Sandusky is then accused of demanding the victim erase all the incriminating texts and that nothing be mentioned to anyone. Sandusky requested a meeting to talk things over, but the victim responded "we don't need to talk and we aren't going to" before adding these were the actions of a "rapist."

Sandusky was arraigned Monday afternoon. A judge prohibited him from having contact with the alleged victim or anyone under the age of 18, WJAC-TV reported.

Sandusky's defense lawyer, Lance Marshall, declined to comment on the allegations.

However, Sandusky's brother, Matt Sandusky, told NBC News that if the allegations are true, "he deserves the maximum of whatever sentence the judge will give him."

I'm going to go ahead and say that ALL of his (Jerrys) children ( I know they are mostly grown) need to get into counseling ASAP. Not only due to what their "father" was convicted of, but because they are likely victims. The cycle needs to end. The only way to do that is some acknowledgement and treatment.

I want to punch the monster Jerry, who decided to harm those who were the most fragile- children who were in foster care or in athletic programs, due to no father figure. He is the lowest of the low. I can barely even talk about him.

Yes, I believe they have the ability to change their destiny but I know that it is terribly hard to do and the self-destructive aspect of the PTSD or psychological damage done is all too real.

I agree that any of the people who have been in Sandusky, the older and the younger, should have comprehensive mental care. I would advocate that he never see the light of day again. But, I am so torn in that he was victimized and will never be able to escape the cycle.

So sad that so many covered this up or turned a blind eye. More lives ruined to protect a dynasty, makes me sick to my stomach.

Minette, I could not agree more with you.

I am the survivor of incestuous child rape that stretched on for years. The perpetrator lives free and clear because of where the assaults happened and statutes of limitations. My family swept it under the rug by the time I was brave enough to tell them.

That being said, there is no way I could inflict that kind of pain, torture and life-long damage on an innocent child. It completely sickens me. I know that there are predelictions for the survivors of child sexual abuse to continue the cycle. We have free will though and there is no excuse not to stop the cycle.

From what they just said on local news, it sounds like the victims are family members. They said they are not revealing the nature of the relationship to preserve privacy. Sounds like 2 victims, one at least female.

This page keeps refreshing on me and my post disappears in progress so bear with me as I continue to edit.

Below is an old 1989 article that explored the cycle of abuse (physical, verbal, sexual, neglect). I bet some of the info is outdated, but it's an interesting easy read. At the time, the statistic was that almost 1/3 of abused children end up becoming abusers of some kind (not necessarily the type of abuse they suffered). The other 2/3 (of which I count myself) did NOT go on to abuse.

Abuse can really do a number on one's brain, especially a child's developing brain. The article mentions a number of factors why the 2/3 do not become abusers, including support (psychological or familial), their brain development (empathy and reasoning), among others.

Let me clear: I do NOT condone abuse of any kind. There are no excuses, but I do think that it's imperative for abused children to receive adequate, early help. Sweeping it under the rug and pretending it didn't happen helps no one, but can hurt many.

A 5 year old boy in our neighborhood was molested by a 9 year old boy. The 9 yr old's family promptly moved so we never learned about his upbringing other than what we observed (parents cussing and screaming at one another on their front lawn, Dad's multiple arrests for drug offenses, Dad's non-lethal overdose, Dad crashing into two parked cars in our neighborhood). Younger boy's family declined to call the police. Was the 9 year abused? we don't know. If so, he crossed the line from abused to abuser at an appallingly young age. (It may not have been a sudden transition, but overlapping.)

As someone with c-ptsd, I could not disagree more. Victimizing others is NOT an aspect of PTSD, at least not an uncontrollable one. Abuse is not destiny, I will NEVER accept that as an excuse, nor accept it as my 'fate.' It's one reason abuse survivors don't like to come forward, because then they will be 'marked' as someone likely to abuse others.
