I will look for the transcript of the timeline, but I think it went something like this:

the partition was installed the day before the download. The download of this known horror triggered the detective and led to the IP address of Josh’s car lot computer. They looked at this 3 day period only. They know it is Josh based on geo location, and texts, plus the password is his. Before the viewing he texted Anna saying he would be late he was stuck at the car lot. Where this was viewed.

This is based on memory from reading yesterday.

I hope he gets 40 years.

The Monday after Mother’s Day

Over and over again and it seems he has been caught with a 'mistake' again. How many 'mistakes' in the intervening years.
Someone should sit Anna down and make her watch the DD file and then try to say it was a 'mistake'.
Someone needs to sit that judge,and 3rd party lady who has a private mother in law cottage where there is zero way to make sure he isn't up to no good down too. Any evil he perpetrates will be on them as well as him. MOO

Their attitude toward bailing him out when he was caught the first time, more than anything else, made me question whether or not he had been abused. To me it signaled a "those things happen" attitude by the father. I apologize if I misspoke when I said that sometimes the abused become an abuser. I in no way was contending that it is an absolute or even something that happens a majority of the time.

I was speaking from the standpoint of people I know personally, and males specifically. I'm no expert on the topic. I'm no scholar on the topic. I can only say that some males I know who were sexually abused in childhood did not offend in adulthood. Some did.

Regardless of data on the issue, it certainly feels that trafficking and other sexual abuses of vulnerable individuals of all ages, within all religious or non religious persuasions, and all walks of life is not slowing, regardless of how many task forces and the excellent work that they do.

My comment was also spurred by trying to make sense in some way, like humans do, of an awful situation. Obviously not all abusers were abused. I'm just trying to understand. And again, I meant no offense.

It seems to me that any single study on the topic would be prone to validity issues. Just in the last 5 years, consider the cultural shift in how SA is defined. Rape of a spouse hasn't been recognized in all 50 states for that many years, which is appalling.

<modsnip>

I work with abused children and child sex trafficking victims. The research in this area of sexual abuse and trauma is severely lacking. I am a massive advocate of researching if past sexual trauma influences future perpetration. Not because I believe everyone who has been abused goes on to abuse. Understanding abuse and knowing if there can be potential patterns and cycles are integral in understanding how some abuse comes to be. Not all abuse, of course. However, any research that can lead us to how to prevent some abuses is something I support.

I do not know if I feel that children who were abused are more likely to abuse. I can tell you that most male juvenile perpetrators I have worked with have experienced sexual trauma. This experience is anecdotal and by no means a claim as proof of anything. I can tell you that how the abuse was dealt with in these boy's lives impacted their future perpetration. (To be clear again, this is all my personal opinion.) The vast majority of families or the public that were privy to the information saw it as a sexual experience. It was not treated as abuse but as mutual sexual contact. The child was not treated as a victim but as a participant. Their trauma was never validated or treated mentally and emotionally. In addition to that, the abuse or abuser was never confronted or held accountable. There was a sort of acceptance, justification, and condoning of the abuse and abuser. Children can and do experience pleasure during abuse. I am not saying that abuse itself pleasurable. I know full well the impact of abuse. I mean that physical pleasure is part of the grooming and abusing process for many children. You mix that with adults essentially telling you that it was not wrong, that it was an experience, not abuse, and leaving you be with no treatment for the horrible trauma; you are asking for this to inform sexuality in their minds. On top of all that, when the victim then goes on to be an abuser, there is often a justification and hiding of their behavior. This pattern has horrible implications.

I say none of this to explain Josh Duggar. There are all kinds of other layers here. I believe that he belongs in prison for a long time and made conscious, illegal, harmful choices. He is a complete danger to society. His behavior was criminal and unforgivable. I am just elaborating on the questions you raised.

She does not have to. She was not betrayed. The children were betrayed. The victims of csa,and her own children. By standing by him, and sweeping it all under the rug. Giving him carte blanche. MOO
Yes, I know she doesn't have to. I should have been clearer in what I mean: in that family, she is expected to accept how she is treated. And I do think the mother's day connection is brutal to her as a mom, while at the same time I understand the crime is against children. There are many people harmed.

Indeed she was most certainly betrayed by Josh. The entire point of such apps like Covenent Eyes is to help those who are weak and might stray into places they shouldn't, be accountable to their accountability partner, whoever that happens to be. Many Christian couples and singles have things like this on their systems because let's be honest, the internet can be a downright nasty, vile, tempting place to look at garbage you then cannot ever, unsee. In this case, his wife was his accountability partner and he intentionally gamed the app so that what he was doing, she'd never see. Premeditated Betrayal 101. Hide the nasty from the wife.

It's so twisted now, that's she's all about conspiracy theories and whatnot, when she should instead be horrified, and adamant he NEVER be around those kids again. He must be laughing his evil face off. What a flipping nightmare for those kids. CLEARLY, they're not being protected.

First, I want to say that I am glad we are talking about JD on here because I personally needed an outlet to vent, and also get more information on JD. I have been following JD in the media since his crimes were reported in 2015.

<modsnip>

I just want to leave with two quotes from the recent bail hearing. The first one coming referring to a Homeland Security Agent who in MOO has seen some really disturbing things in his career, and the second one refers to the material found on JD office computer:

1. "...he testified that the images found on Duggar's computer were 'in the top five of the worst of the worst that I've ever had to examine'."

2. "Duggar, 33, is accused of having hundreds of sick images on his computer as well as a two-minute video depicting children aged from five to 10 with a man."

Quotes are from an article on Dailymail. Josh Duggar 'used darkweb to bypass anti-child *advertiser censored* software installed by wife Anna,' court hears | Daily Mail Online

Right!

And they let him out, in the care of a woman who doesn't want him and has no experience whatsoever in being a caregiver to an adult offender.

Insane.

imo

I was actually thinking this same thing. I’m not sure how the system understands this cult’s beliefs and lifestyle. I hope a secular person is making sure Anna knows what he is interested in. Although, iirc, sin is sin to the Duggar’s. It is all equal. Lying, stealing, murder, csa...all just sin.

<modsnip>

Exactly.

In cases like this I'm just not sure it's possible to firewall discussion of religion from discussion of criminal circumstances -- they're inextricably linked, since some crucial operative understandings of sin and temptation are designed to remove agency from the culpable party (JD) and injured parties (including, potentially, his family) transfer them onto a larger spiritual playing field. It's a toxic mixture that can, in some cases, provide unwarranted layers of insulation between offenders and their victims. I hope that is not the case here. IMO, and per the judge's reservations, JD should not have been released, and I'm not sure why he was.

I've loosely followed the Duggar family for 10+ years and more closely over the past few years. IMO Anna is a victim. She shares some fault for not protecting her children but she is ALSO a victim. She was taught that she must be "joyfully available" to her husband at all times. She was shamed when it came out that he cheated on her because in their belief system, if the man strays, it's because the woman didn't do enough to please him.

It's her home. Her husband is often gone. She has a life teaching children music in her home, which I"m assuming is both a joy and a source of income. She is a grown woman with valid concerns....and she was ignored.

And you know the burden for taking in JD will be on her. She will be the one responsible for making this work. She is the one whose life has to change, while her husband will continue probably as he normally has.

What year is this?

The dark ages?…

Of great concern to me is that the material found includes children as young as 18 months. It is possible that this man has indeed harmed young children who may have no memory of his abuse.

If any child of his has been abused or shown material:
As he is in the home with his children under the eye of his wife, it could make any disclosures harder to get because his children will feel conflicted by their love of their father, the impression that he can and will gain access to them even if accused of a crime of sexual content and young children, and not necessarily feel that mom will protect them.

I can only imagine that the judge had gotten children services information that lead her to believe that his children had not been abused or been given access to child *advertiser censored* or inappropriate images of adults.
I don't think that the judge necessarily received any info from children's services...unless there wss already a current open case and an investigation completed while he has been in jail.

I'm really hoping that he is assigned to a probation officer that does his job to keep the community safe. At this point, he needs to be put under a microscope, as he's facing a long stretch of time behind bars.

Josh Duggar released from jail, special agent lays out evidence against him | 5newsonline.com

He has a probation officer.

Under the release to third-party custodians, Duggar must wear a location monitor, have a probation officer's permission to leave the third-party custodians' home, cannot access the internet, and he cannot be inside a residency where firearms are stored.

The custodians, family friends, testified in court that Jim Bob Duggar reached out to them about hosting Josh.

Judge Comstock said she made her decision based on Duggar knowing about the investigation for the last 19 months and not trying to flee from Northwest Arkansas.

There isn't enough money in the world, seriously, for me to have a complete stranger, adult male, facing charges for having child *advertiser censored* on a computer to be in my house 24 x 7. The probation officer can literally come in at any time and search the house for contraband.

I think it's a disaster waiting to happen, tbh.
