KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 40-year-old Olathe man has been charged with first-degree murder after a 72-year-old woman was found dead in a home Saturday evening.

According to court documents filed Tuesday, Brian Christopher Thode is facing three counts of criminal charges — one count of first-degree murder and two counts of cruelty to animals.

Count I said that Thode “unlawfully, feloniously, intentionally and with premeditation” killed Nancy Thode on Saturday, June 29 at the 1000 block of East Oakview Street.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Olathe Police Department is investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead in a home Saturday evening.

According to OPD, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Oakview Street just before 6 p.m. for a death investigation.

7/2/24 Update: Initial appearance. Bond set at $3M. During his first appearance in court, the judge asked Thode if he had received a copy of his complaint & read through it. The judge also asked if Thode wanted him to read his complaint word for word. Thode said, “No, I read it. With my mental issues, I don’t understand why that happened.” The judge explained that the facts of the case didn’t need to be discussed today during the first appearance & the meeting continued.
7/2/24 Docket update: Request for Disclosure of an affidavit or sworn testimony. Plaintiff appears by Mendenhall & defendant appears in custody pro se. Appointed public defender Carl E. Cornwell. I figured it had to be the son. He didn't want to have to deal with the animals so he killed them too. A stranger wouldn't have noticed or cared.

probably hated the animals as well as his mom. I haven't been able to tell from the articles so far but wondering if he was a failure to launch type and lived there with her.
