KS, Two 14-year-old girls arrested in murder of Joanne Johnson (93).

The father of one of the girls who was arrested is speaking out. He doesn't believe his daughter was involved.

Ah, the old "ninjas made me watch" defense. (Jury gets case after hearing contrasting claims of how Mollie Tibbetts was killed)

Not buying that. I would imagine these detectives painstakingly got the evidence because they probably couldn't believe two young girls could kill and old woman with, presumably, an axe.

IMO MOO

Good point. They were very likely just 13 when they killed her. But why?

I hope they're tried as adults. Beating and killing the elderly is just beyond wrong and sick.

Did the girls harm animals? How do two such girls find one another? Or, was one a clear instigator and the other just a follower?

Can you imagine getting that knock on your door as a parent?

Joanne Johnson, 93, was found dead inside her home at 1711 Robbins St. in Augusta on Sept. 3. Authorities said at the time Johnson was killed sometime between Sept. 2 and Sept. 3.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says two 14-year-old female subjects from Augusta were arrested Thursday on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection to Johnson’s death.

The teens are being held in separate juvenile detention centers, and formal charges are pending.

The KBI says it is still an ongoing investigation.
93 years old and still living in her house that looks cute and maintained. Completely unfair her life ended like it did, within a home I bet she loved. The girls had zero respect for their elder or for life in general.

I don't buy their story that a man coerced them into the house while he murdered a woman in her 90s (why in the world would he do that - makes no sense), but even if that happened, the girls sat on this knowledge for months. Cruel.

Investigation Discovery has a series "Mean Girl Murders" -- girls like this duo are out there.

I trust at Trial we will see two wannabes-- restyled to look age 12, and who love singing in the church choir.

Dad would do good to advise his child to be the first to talk. Early bird gets the worm...

I'd be furious, if a local, reading the latest account by the father!

As if the Augusta, KS parks are full of lingering, white men who are waiting around to "coerce" 13-14 yr old girls to follow them to observe an axe murder.

I hope LE found that axe. I imagine DNA was on it.
It's baffling, though. Motive...ability to go through with it...to hide it from their families somehow... IMO.
