Randall Russ: Ky. State Police find missing UC instructor, Grant County High School teacher's car
DRY RIDGE, Ky. - More than a month after a Grant County High School teacher went missing, the Kentucky State Police have found his car. They would not say where, or in what condition they found the car that disappeared with Russ on Aug. 17. Troopers said no cell phone or credit card activity had been tracked back to Russ since his disappearance.

they are not saying where or how the car was found - they are onto something IMO.

Randy Russ has been missing for nearly six weeks, and his Ford Focus wagon was found in a random location around Fort Boonesboro in Madison County, sources told LEX 18.

The vehicle was apparently located within a week, but police are still trying to figure out how it got to that location or who may have been with Russ, who was last seen on Aug. 17 at his Grant County home.

Fort Boonesborough is about 100 miles due south of Cincinnati. And they've known all this time where his car was? It might have been helpful to have people in that area keeping an eye out for him.

According to this article, his truck was found only Tuesday. They say it's the first sign of him since his disappearance 5 weeks ago:

Fort Boonesborough State Park is in Richmond, KY, approx. 75 mi. south of Dry Ridge:

I rescind my theory about an accident. A quick errand to the store would not take RR that far from home.

I wonder why the contradictory statements as to when his truck was found. If it had been found within a week of when he went missing, that would explain why Missing posters do not display information about the truck.

One man is charged with murder and another is wanted in a case connected to a missing UC assistant professor. 50-year-old Charles Black is charged with murder, tampering with evidence and theft by unlawful taking. Kentucky State Police arrested Black on Wednesday after human remains were found in Fleming County.

Police say he was in possession of and had used a credit card belonging to the missing man. They also believed he moved a car. That car belonged to UC assistant professor Randall Russ, which was found in Fleming County on Wednesday...

Police are looking for another person in connection with the homicide investigation, Kevin L. Howard from Owensville. He is charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, and theft by unlawful taking auto-over $500.

State police say Black told them Randy Russ and another man, Kevin Howard, were at his home on Colfax Road on Aug. 15 when Howard asked him to go over to a neighbor's house. Black said Howard yelled at him to come back about 45 minutes later. That's when he says he found Russ "gagged and bound at the feet and legs" in a back bedroom of the house. He said Russ was already dead...

On Wednesday, detectives found location of the grave which they said looked to be freshly dug and had concrete cinder blocks. They said they found a man's body at the location.

Black is also accused of abandoning the victim's car on a road and withdrawing $700 from the victim's bank account.

Poor Randy. How terrible. My prayers to his friends and family.

Man arrested in connection to missing UC professor, another suspect at large
A suspect in custody in rural Kentucky told investigators a missing University of Cincinnati instructor is dead. This comes one day after Kentucky State Police found human remains near a Fleming County river bank. Charles L. Black, 55, of Hillsboro, Ky., told police that he and Kevin L. Howard, 37, of Owingsville, Ky., were with Randall Russ in Black's home in mid-August, according to an affidavit for search warrant. Black told investigators he was instructed by Howard to leave the home and go next door to a neighbor's house. When Black returned about 45 minutes later, he said he found Russ bound and gagged in a back bedroom. Black said he tried to find a heartbeat but couldn't find one. Black and Howard allegedly then put Russ' body into the victim's green Ford Focus and drove it to the river bank. The two men dug a shallow grave and placed Russ inside it. They also burned a mattress from the home Russ' body was removed from. Black told investigators where to find Russ' body. Authorities have yet to positively identified the remains found in that location. Russ' car was found on Tuesday. He was last seen on Aug. 18 at his Dry Ridge home, according to family members.

Always interesting to get more details after the fact. Obviously, with a mattress missing, they didn't think this guy just ran off! They likely knew there was something bad that went down there. Only we didn't know that.

I wonder if these men are known to have an existing relationship with Mr. Russ or if they would have been strangers to him.
Me too! All these articles about the murder and nothing about why these guys were at Russ' house in the first place!

I kind of got lost in the details in the article but it appears that the were at Black's house when Mr. Russ died and the mattress was in Black's home, not Mr. Russ' home. My sympathy to the family, such a sad ending. As an aside, I too am left wondering about the condition of the animals.

Howard was in Fleming County District Court for a preliminary hearing, during which District Judge Frank H. McCartney determined there is probable cause to send the case to a grand jury.

During the hearing, Kentucky State Police Detective Wes Prather said he has a witness who placed Howard, 37, of Owingsville, and 55-year-old Charles Black of Hillsboro, at Black's residence on Colfax Road with Russ, who disappeared on Aug. 15.
