here is another case where color is subjective.

according to the UID's profile she had reddish brown hair. is that supposed to be auburn? the reconstruction looks blonde to me and Carl's possible match looks blonde to me yet Loeffler's profile says it's brown.

as for the tattoo, I don't know that we'll find a match for that. it is described as "outline tattoo of a rose". I take that to mean someone outlined it but the coloring was never finished. so the ink might not have existed when the potential matches were last seen.

there is an impressive rule-out list for this UID. I see at least 30 names there:

https://identifyus.org/cases/71

One that is not on the list is Holly Paul, last seen at a motel in Mobile AL on Aug 29, 1999. she was 35 y.o., 5'6" and her hair looks much more like a reddish brown than the reconstruction.

there are now 55 names on the rule out list and the profile was last modified this past week. so someone is doing some work on this UID:

I called Emily Craig of the Kentucky Medical Examiner Office. She said that unless someone comes to her with dentals on Kathleen Loeffler, there is nothing that she can do.

She says that they are not at all proactive on trying to solve these cases. She feels that it is the responsibility of LE on the Missing Person side to come to them. I commented that maybe I should contact LE in charge of K Loeffler's case. She replied that they probably won't bother with it.

That's it in a nutshell. On one side of the coin you have the VanNormans and the Hal Browns. On the other side you have the Emily Craigs.

I had a similar experience with Dr. Craig, definitely recommend anyone interested in possibles contacts MP LE first. Its very discouraging to get confronted with this kind of attitude, but then again its better than no reply which happens more often than not.

Too bad everyone can't be like VanNorman and Snohomish LE.

This woman fits the description of the Simpson County Jane Doe, and like SCJD, she has a tattoo of a rose on her left breast.

Carrie J. Anderson

Height:
CJA: 67 inches
SCJD: 66 inches
Hair Color:
CJA: Blonde/Strawberry
SCJD: Reddish/Blonde
Past Injuries:
CJA: Scar on underside of Rt. arm -
SCJD: healed fracture of proximal (i.e., the side facing her body) right humerus (upper arm near shoulder)
Age (In late 2001):
CJA: 24-25 (Was 20 in Feb'97)
SCJD: 25-35

Also, the fact that she was homeless would be consistent to the poor condition of SCJD's teeth.

I just left a voicemail with Det. Maura Mekenas-Parga of the San Diego PD to find out if these two cases have been (or can be) compared.

Det. Mekenas-Parga never responded to my voicemail. I left another voicemail, and also e-mailed this in to Carrie Sutherland (MP Case Manager) and Amy Burrows-Beckham and Emily Craig (UP Case Managers).

ETA: Carrie Sutherland replied, and said that she will look into it.

I received another reply from Carrie Sutherland:

Hi Carl,

We have been working on this, just so you know…

It is a difficult comparison because of the limited data available, though and they may not be able to make a final conclusion. If the Forensic experts or INV can, it will get posted in NamUs.

Thank you so much for proposing these possible matches.

Carrie

Cripes. For that matter, what about Tammi Jean Campbell?

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/c/campbell_tammi.html

She is not listed as a rule-out for the decedent.

# Missing Since: June 12, 1999 from Grove City, Ohio
# Classification: Endangered Missing
# Date of Birth: February 28, 1966
# Age: 33 years old
# Height and Weight: 5'2, 100 pounds
# Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian female. Brown hair, hazel eyes. Campbell may go by her initials, T.J. Some accounts spell her name "Tammy." She has a tattoo of a yellow rose on her left breast and she wears eyeglasses.
# Clothing/Jewelry Description: A blue shirt.
# Medical Conditions: Campbell suffers from hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. She also had a history of drug abuse.

:offtopic:

Sorry for posting if this is in the wrong area. I searched for Tammi Jean Campbell and this is the thread that came up. I was searching on namus and Doe looking at something else...and one thing lead to another.

I think these two people look alike.

I know the hair is short in the one clay picture, but it does say in the description that only a few brown hairs were on the skull when they found the bones. It's probably the nose, long face, and the closeness to the spots. I'm strictly comparing the last picture in the Tammi shots to the clay picture.

Something I've wondered about this one. Admittedly nitpicking ... but where would we be without nitpicking. :)

There are three photos that are commonly shown of reconstructions of this Jane Doe; they appeared earlier in the thread, but I'll include them again here:

In one of these, she's wearing glasses. But the NamUs file specifically says that there was no eyewear found with her:

https://identifyus.org/en/cases/71

... and the KY state police site, while highlighting the rings found with her, doesn't mention glasses at all:

http://www.kentuckystatepolice.org/cold_case/cc03-01-1009.php

Nor do any of the various news reports, etc. that I've seen. I have to assume that the reconstruction artists had good reason for adding glasses to the clay model, but I've never seen any explanation of any sort given.

So, my question -- does anyone here know of any facts of the case that establish or imply that this Jane Doe wore glasses?

I was looking through my spreadsheet of MPs, and I came across Jennifer Lee Wilson missing from Derby, KS. Now, the date listed in Namus for when she was LKA is 9/1/2002, but so many other things matched so I decided to dig a bit into Jennifer's case. I came across a news article that says she went missing at the age of 27 in March of 2001. http://www.kake.com/crimestoppers/headlines/crime_stoppers_-_missing_woman_152416075.html
If anything, this means that the date she was LKA is not exact.
Incidentally, Derby, KS is almost exactly a 12 hour drive to Simpson County, KY.

Jennifer had brownish/red curly hair that was long. She was wearing 2 gold rings, her right arm was previously broken below the shoulder and her front teeth are listed as broken but repaired.

Here's another comparison of Wilson and Simpson County Jane Doe:

4425
Jane%20Doe%20Simpson%20Co1.jpg

From that perspective ... maybe. To be honest, it doesn't jump out at me as a good match, but that's just MHO. Then again sometimes the reconstructions are surprisingly off.

Did Wilson have any other injuries? Namus mentions a healed fracture of SCJD's left 8th rib. On the other hand, the Kentucky State Police site doesn't mention that.

One reason I'm doubtful about this is that from what I see, it appears that Wilson was healthy and probably living a reasonably comfortable life prior to March 2001. At the latest, SCJD died around seven months later, and was missing most of her teeth (according to NAMUS 17 out of her 32 teeth were missing due to antemortem loss). Here's a link to a photo of SCJD's upper jaw (the actual photo is way too big to include here):

https://identifyus.org/en/medias/full/7254

Your photo of Wilson only shows a few of her teeth, but even comparing that to SCJD's dental information, it looks to me as if at the very least Wilson would have had to have lost some teeth and enough time elapsed before her death for significant healing of the sockets to occur. Do you know when that photo of Wilson was taken?

One thing that's always struck me as bizarre about SCJD's case is where she was found. I used to travel frequently between southwest Tennessee and eastern Kentucky, and I've driven over that stretch of I-65 a number of times. Every time it's had lots of traffic; drivers going from Nashville or Atlanta north to Louisville or Indianapolis would go that way. It seems like a hell of a risky place to pull a dead body out of a vehicle.

Monica Lynn Appleton? She's not on the ruleout list. Disappeared in October of 1999. Involved in drugs and prostitution, and possibly was on the run or in hiding from someone/something. So the lag in time is easily explained. A tad short at 5'5", but if the UID is estimated at 5'7 1/2 (5'6 to 5'9), we've seen greater discrepancies before. Age is spot on.

That middle pic looks just like the reconstruction, IMO!

looking at the smiling face pics, Appleton had most, if not all her teeth. in order for her to be the UID, she would have had to have lost 17 teeth in a 2 yr period which is not too likely.
