So they are going to try and make DeDe testify or else go to jail?

Good question. I guess she could be found guilty of contempt of court if she is ordered to answer and still refuses. This could be very interesting.

Respectfully <snipped>

In the meantime, are other depositions continuing or has any further action in the case been postponed?

There is nothing in the record to indicate there is any postponement or abatement of any kind. I imagine it is moving forward. Notices of Depositions and other discovery pleadings are not filed in the court record usually, so there is no way for me to find out by looking at the docket.

Oh good you're here!!

Any comments on how you think the judge will rule on compelling her to answer?

The judge will err on the side of not forcing an answer. It's tough to respond to the question, "and just HOW would this answer incriminate you"--so if there's any imaginable answer that could be problematic, generally judges allow people to plead the 5th. Like if someone is asked, "How did you meet Sherri," the answer might be, "I sold her some steroids," so you could take the 5th on that.

I'm late to this re: the DedeS deposition, but I'm wondering if you can assert your 5th amendment privileges to guard against perjury as well. So could Dede legitimately plead the 5th to avoid perjuring her previous statements? Or future ones if it should come to a trial?

It enrages me to read the last batch of questions. All I can picture is a mother asking a woman who either has information or could be eliminated as someone who doesn't have information the most basic question: is my son alive? and dede declines to answer. So enraging.

I haven't done the research, but my gut instinct is that you should be able to take the 5th if a truthful answer would tend to inform prosecutors that a previous answer under oath was false.

So I suppose she could be taking the 5th just because she gave some BS story the first time, and her answers now would incriminate her for perjury but would incriminate Terri a heck of a lot more...interesting possibility. If so, however, I would think her attorney could work out an immunity deal (which would also make her look like the "good guy" for finally helping Kyron's family get some info). He seems a lot more inclined to just keep her quiet, though.

Immunity needs to be offered. DeDe is not/should not negotiate against herself prematurely.

In my view, it is time to cut DeDe a deal. A sweetheart deal. Total immunity if she talks. Maybe even make a few of her problems go away if she talks.

I just had a thought, and it's sort of out of left field but here goes:

Has anyone considered the possibility that LE got things backwards on the MFH? I mean, could TH be the hitter? She is very strong physically. The Hormans took some interesting international trips. One in particular to Israel.

But what if Dede is the one who actually took Kyron or worse...could that be why they have not offered immunity thus far?

For someone who was not acquainted with either woman - like the many folks who attended the science fair - I think it would be easy to mistake DeDe for Terry. Both women have large builds and red hair and could easily look like one another. When I read the deposition, the line of questioning about DeDe's weight reminded me of her similarity to TMH in appearance. DeDe could have easily been the one to escort Kyron out of the school. :moo:

You could very well be right. DeDe could have left the school with Kyron and met TMH at (or between) the first Fred Meyer store she visited (where she got alibi receipt and showed someone a picture of Kyron at the science fair). I think more likely though they met somewhere near to the place DeDe was gardening that day.

Does anyone know if DeDe had access to a white truck that was NOT Terri's?

So...I'm looking through DeDe's depo for clues:
http://media.oregonlive.com/portland_impact/other/DeDe-watermarked-1.pdf

I noticed that she first gets sensitive about the questions and takes the fifth when she's asked whether Ms. Hockensmith paid her for the gardening work she did at Ms. Hockensmith's house to get ready for Ms. Hockensmith's event (p. 12-13). So that seems to be something that she sees as "dangerous territory" for her. It isn't the work itself that's sensitive, because she talks about that for quite a while after. What could be sensitive about whether she got paid for the work? She had already said she was paid for hostessing the event but not for gardening, so this was really just a throwaway follow-up question that shouldn't have set up any red flags. Also, before she took the fifth, she answered "I don't remember" and then changed her answer to take the 5th. So we can assume that she does, indeed, remember whether she got paid but DOES NOT want to say. Why not??

ETA: Oh, I see on p. 44 she says it would have been a violation to receive her unemployment benefits and not report income received.

When I first read your post I immediately thought maybe she was sensitive to the question about getting paid that day because of the actual hours she worked. Didn't we think this all went down before she showed up for work that day (she came in later) or she left the grounds for awhile and was missing around the time Ms. H called her in for lunch? I sure wish we all knew what happened that day.

I've always thought that both DeDe and Terry were complicit in Kyron's disappearance. Two women, both with muscular/overweight builds, both with red hair, both (possibly) driving white pickup trucks - it could almost be a Shakespearean tale of mistaken identity. And, wasn't it raining the morning of the science fair? Perhaps one or both women wore hoodies with faces/hair obscured. This would have made it even more difficult for unsuspecting witnesses to tell the two women apart. :moo:

I suspect if we ever do, we may wish we didn't.

I do hope for answers someday. But so many of the answers we've been given in other cases have been heart wrenching.

I saw this on my Facebook feed, praise God! Hopefully this brings them closer to the truth.

Put the squeeze on DeDe. Either she starts singing like a canary or throw her in the slammer and let the inmates help her find her voice. She doesn't want to spend.the rest of her life in jail for her friends deed. She prolly helped with the coverup and knows most everything. Why is she so loyal to Teri? What does Teri have on her? Very odd these two. Toooo close even for BFFs. Teri is a narcissist. Bodybuilding, etc. She found a friend that resembled her to fulfill that narcissism?
I'm no shrink, obviously. This is not based on fact, just pure speculation and opinion only.
But I do think DeDe is the key to solving this. The DA should put her in the spotlight and put the pressure on.

Yeah...I agree. I wasn't so sure what, if anything, Dede's involvement was initially. I just figured there was a good shot she knew something. But her loyaltly to Terri is kind of creepy, IMO, and her pleading of the 5th, over and over and over again, convinced me there is some direct involvement and/or she is so dumb she couldn't be trusted to say anything and was coerced to just keep pleading the 5th to avoid spilling the beans. Other indicators aren't that she is that dumb, so I'm going with direct involvement.
