As a side note: It bothers me a lot when people try to use mental illnesses as an excuse for poor behavior.
I have bipolar disorder. I have been completely unmedicated for almost three years now. Of course, I have done stupid things in my life and have made bad decisions, but I blame myself for that.
People that commit horrific crimes and try to say they did it because they are bipolar really drives me insane!
There are three different types of bi-polar, some are worse than others. My Mother and my sisters have 1,2, and the milder form that I will call three.
My mom and middle sis are medicated and functioning members of society. My mom was un-medicated until 9 years ago. She spent 55 years of her life with extreme mania and deep depressive episodes. My youngest sis is medicated and functioning, but difficult to deal with. I always tell them how happy I am to have MS.
Everyone reacts to the disease differently, and yes I have seen my Mom in some crazed manic states. I can understand how someone with a severe form of the disease might impulsively attack a lone girl- and yes it may be b/c of the disease.
I am proud of you for being able to manage the disease without medication. I understand how difficult that might be at times.
Be well.
