Oh no! Hope he didn't get some of those Oxycontin's that were found in Sacramento to actually be Fentanyl, which is alot stronger. I was once given some Fentanyl for some outpatient surgery I had, and it is a "happy drug". I remember feeling Euphoric, and would have laughed hysterically even if you told me the sky was blue!! Hope Prince went out feeling happy.

It's appearing more and more likely than not that he had a drug dependancy .
I'm not a stranger to this , and lest anyone think I am speaking poorly of him I am not .
It just means that as big a rock star and larger than life he was , he was also human .
Like me, you and every one of us , and we all have our weaknesses .
Sadly, I have learned that addiction does not discriminate ....
Still hoping it's all false , but not going to walk around with rose colored glasses on either.
It wouldn't change the way I feel about him and his music one little bit .

Dr. Drew Pinsky: Prince’s death might have been 'accidental overdose’

Pinsky said the singer's respiratory distress was likely due to a “combination of oral opiates and Benzodiazepines,” which is “extraordinarily dangerous.”
“[It] stops you from breathing and you die,” the addiction specialist said of mixing painkillers with the anti-anxiety medication. “It’s easy for that to happen with that combination, even as prescribed.”

I saw Pinsky interviewed on CNN tonight and said he believed something was happening to Prince recently in his life and didn’t believe he was an addict – that his life didn’t fit the profile.

Another interesting point was that opioid med rarely causes OD alone – but mix with anti-anxiety or sleeping aid like ambien and it can be deadly. (a catastrophic misadventure)

He said 90% of pain meds in the world are prescribed in the USA. (wow)

BBM

I can see a catastrophic misadventure happening easily. If you get loopy on a drug prescribed for a legitimate reason like severe pain, it can be very difficult to remember what you have already taken. I remember 25 years ago when I had been prescribed a pain med, Xanax and Ambien for different purposes. I had horrible headaches and I would very cautiously add a small dose of a different med when one wasn't working. I recall my doctor telling me that it was OK but to be careful. I always wrote down what I had taken, so I could keep track, and if anything happened, my husband would know what I had taken. But it's riskier than I realized, and if I had been less careful or slipped up, it could have been deadly. Intense pain can cause desperation and carelessness. Poor Prince, if this is what happened. :(

Thank you to all for the wonderful links. Prince has been a part of my life for 32 years. Every major life event for me has a corresponding song of his. He is truly the soundtrack of my life.

I miss him so much that it hurts.

I have almost been in denial about this - I simply couldn't believe the news when it came through nearly a week ago.

I was lucky enough to see Prince perform live five times in total. I have seen many artists over the years but his were without doubt the most accomplished, spectacular and mesmerising live performances I have ever seen.

This thread is a thing of beauty - so many clips I had never seen before. It is a real treasure chest, so my heartfelt thanks to all who have posted clips.

I am working my way through them but am torn between loving them but also finding that they keep reminding me what a huge loss this is and making me sad. His live performances were so full of life - it doesn't seem possible that he really is gone. So viewing them truly is bittersweet.

RIP Beautiful One. Thank you for sharing your genius with us - you really were unique.

I think he could have been prescribed medicine and accidently taken too much. That doesn't make him an addict. Although if he were an addict, I would only have compassion for him and anyone with that situation.

Does anyone know if the "no drinking no smoking , no swearing" was an actual rule at his home and studio?

It does hurt.

I agree that this seems a far more likely scenario (if his death does turn out to be drug related). A huge number of people become dependent on prescribed opiate pain killers every year - not because they are feckless or wicked, but because that is what happens when you take that class of medicines on a regular basis. As time goes on they become less effective at killing the pain and peoplem often find they need to increase their intake to get the same pain relief. This is not such an issue for those poor patients taking them to deal with cancer pain where their prognosis is not good, but for chronic pain conditions it is a real issue. To be honest, I think prescribers have quite a lot to answer for in this regard. Do they warn patients of the genuine risks effectively?

We have a friend who had a hip replacement about a year ago. He just happened to stop by our house a few days before Prince died and we were just shooting the breeze. The subject turned to painful conditions (my partner has back problems) and our friend recalled a time before he had his hip replacement. He is a big generally healthy guy who played lots of sports. He said one day he came out of a coffee shop and his car was parked less that 50 yards away. He said he was on the verge of tears standing there in public - the pain was so bad that he didn't think he would be able to make the short journey to the car.

When I think of Prince potentially needing both hips replaced, the pain he was in at times must have been phenomenal - and yet he kept right on doing his shows. I really hope he wasn't in lots of pain and unhappy - what a terrible price to pay for the enjoyment he gave to so many.

The suspicions just keep piling up for me. That bank... BANK!!!, was in an awful hurry to drill into the vault. I don't like this one bit. At this point I am not believing anything I read with regards to this case,
And yes, I am referring to it as a case. Nothing here passes the ole sniff test.

You are a real Prince fan AND I CAN READ IT AND FEEL IT
IDK what t think or feel except..... sadness.

You aren't in a hurry to DRILL into a vault unless you are looking for something specific. IMO

Lol! I thought Jimmy Hendrix...

I think they are looking for a last will and testament specifically, and to secure his most valuable assets. And apparently Prince was the only one who knew the combination to the vault.

ETA: In many states a holographic will is as legal as one that is filed formally if it meets the requirements.

Is it Legal to Handwrite a Will in Minnesota if You Get it Notarized?

A handwritten will may also be known as a holographic or olographic will. Some states recognize a handwritten will as valid even if it is not witnessed. In Minnesota, however, all wills must be in writing, signed by the testator and witnessed by at least two people who meet the minimum requirements for witnesses under Minnesota law. Without two witnesses, a handwritten will is not valid even if it is notarized, according to the Minnesota Probate Code.
