The will says they get nothing "for reasons well known to them" lol

About some of the grandchildren getting nothing. I don't know why she did that but it could be that in her opinion they could not handle the money. If a person has a drug problem you certainly would not want to hand them a large amount of money. At least she did leave a lot of money to some of her grandkids and it might be that they will share some with the others, also she did leave some to charity so that's good. Money is not everything and in the end we all end up leaving this world without it.

and the stipulation for the 2 she did leave $$ to, was they visit their fathers grave at least once a year........she also left 3 million for the upkeep of her mosoleum..(sp) you know- the place she is buried !!

I think she was just being mean! She was wise enough as far as finances go to have put the money in a trust if she didn't think one of the grandchildren couldn't handle it.

You sure are right about money not being everything. I know plenty of happy people that don't have a lot of money. Sometimes family is all you have.

Leona was a very controlling person and used money to control others. I am sure she is the type of person who wrote people in and out of her will constantly. Her grandkids probably make choices she didn't agree with and she wrote them out.

Even after death she had to get the last evil laugh huh?.. Leave it to your dog but not your own flesh and blood grandchildren? Leona was not only mean and hateful she was also extremely sick in her head.. Something was wrong with her.

Something was wrong with her, that's true - she was a miserable human. But I'd say the kinfolk who didn't get her money got the last laugh - they did what they wanted to do and were not controlled by her "riches". That's a happy ending, IMHO.

Hmm, you got me thinking now. Since the will has been read and nothing can change it...maybe we'll get a juicy book or movie out of all this!

My daughter and I love to watch "Mommie Dearest" together. She used to call me mean and one day I got sick of it and sat her down to watch that with me. LOL

I think Leona was probably more mean than Joan Crawford, if that's possible!
 
This opening paragraph from FORBES was kind of sad to read. She was mean, but I guess I thought she'd get some respect from a financial mag. lol

The first article says that the Helmsey's have given tens of millions to charities. I don't call that so generous since she was a billionaire and left over ten million to a dog. The two grandkids left out were probably the ones that she caused to lose their home and everything their parents had. What a woman. I wonder what the old man really thought of her. She sounds totally nuts.
 
Not to mention the 10 mil. she left her 2 grandchildren is really not saying much compared to the billions this lady had.. Can you imagine what this kind of money could of done for umm lets say Cancer research? Or AIDS research?...damn Leona!!! :doh:

"You'd never know when she would bite you," she said. "One time when she bit me, she was chewing on my fingers, and Leona said, 'Good for you, Trouble, she deserved it.' "
Sfara, who worked for Helmsley for several months, said she suffered permanent nerve damage from Trouble's bites. She still wears a brace on her right hand.
Helmsley fought Sfara's suit, now on appeal, until the day she died.
