(NewsNation) — A Missouri woman was arrested Friday and charged in connection with an alleged scheme to defraud Elvis Presley’s family of millions of dollars and steal the family’s ownership interest in Graceland, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Lisa Jeanine Findley, 53, was charged with mail fraud and aggravated identity theft. She’s set to appear in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri later Friday.

I was suspicious of the Nigerian fraudster claim when it emerged. I thought that the scheme was hatched by someone familiar with US lien laws, and was probably perpetrated by someone inside the US who had considerable knowledge of our court system. It's good to know that Findley was stopped, and that she was arrested.

She must have educated herself on the Nigerian crime scene at some point. They are notorious for crime and corruption.

Something must be very wrong with Priscilla for her to have allowed this takeover by Brigitte Kruse and to have signed these important documents as described below. I’m only a year younger than Priscilla and I can’t imagine allowing this to happen, so it’s not just an age-related lapse in judgement IMO. Priscilla certainly isn’t naive regarding attorneys and business. I’m glad things are on their way to being sorted out, and I hope these contracts are found by the court to be invalid. Above all, I hope Priscilla is getting whatever care she needs.

In a declaration filed July 19 in Florida, Priscilla describes the alleged elder abuse in her own words, saying Kruse was determined “to isolate me from my trusted advisors and gain control over my income, finances, and financial decision-making.” She writes, “Kruse represented to me that my prior advisors had engaged in wrongful acts and that she needed control in order to ‘protect me.” She says the document signing held at Kruse’s home on Jan. 8, 2023 — what would have been Elvis’ 88th birthday — was predatory.

“Kruse arranged for me to be ‘represented’ by her friend, Lynn Walker Wright,” Priscilla wrote. “I was isolated from my advisors and asked to sign a series of agreements, one after the other, with little to no explanation of the contents of each agreement. For example, I was never advised that the agreements stated that I would be holding only a minority interest in these companies, in some cases, only 20% of the company. I had not been provided with any paperwork to review in advance, had not had an opportunity to have anyone review the paperwork before I was asked to sign it, and was not advised as to the nature of the paperwork in advance by Wright, my purported attorney.” (Walker Wright, who is named as a defendant in the elder abuse lawsuit, did not return a request for comment.)

Yes, Priscilla should have known better. OTOH, I also think these were some very slick con artists. They had a team and a system for gaining trust, then deceiving their victims.

When she was 40, Presley had twin daughters, Harper and Finley, with her husband Michael Lockwood. (They divorced in 2021.) She experienced her first “oh-my-God high” from painkillers prescribed after a C-section; the memoir’s final 80 pages cover her free fall into addiction. (“It escalated to 80 pills a day.”) This is difficult territory, and it becomes even more treacherous when Keough’s brother, Ben, ends his own life, but it’s the most powerful part of the book. Instead of tap dancing around the hard parts, we’re drilling into the bedrock. We hear less from Presley and more from Keough, who comes across as level headed, valiant and kind. At a Nar-Anon meeting, she would definitely be the one brewing the coffee.

Is this a book for addicts? Their families? Elvis fans? Hard to say.

Here’s the detail that will land in those checkout lane headlines: After Ben died, Presley kept his body on dry ice in a temperature-controlled room at her house in Calabasas, Calif. for two months.

“I felt so fortunate that there was a way I could still parent him, delay it a bit longer so that I could become OK with laying him to rest,” she writes.

I'm currently reading. Every time I put it down, I think, poor Lisa Marie. She was so broken. She needed therapy early. Very early. Right after her dad died. But they were scientologists, and that's just not allowed. The southern woman in me keeps saying, "Bless her heart. Poor baby. Bless her heart."

I read the whole book. I just wanted to hug Lisa Marie, she didn't stand a chance at a normal life. She was misunderstood and had a very dysfunctional life. My feelings about Priscilla having it all together changed too. Priscilla was a large part of Lisa's problems...JMOO

I’m curious how his date of his death was recorded and if she told the coroner anything about him being on ice. Could that be illegal?

I agree. We now read some of the reasons why their relationship was bad. Linda Thompson made a beautiful post about the book on IG and mentioned how sad Elvis would be to know his choices caused Lisa Marie so much pain.

Thank you for posting these links. I'm using my phone, and couldn't when I posted earlier. It breaks my heart to learn of the trauma Lisa Marie endured. I can only imagine how her daughters feel.

Priscilla Presley asked to be buried next to ex-husband Elvis during negotiations over Lisa Marie’s Trust despite the fact he is currently interred between his parents

  • Elvis Presley is buried in Graceland, Memphis, in between both his parents

Priscilla Presley had asked to be buried next to her ex-husband Elvis, despite the fact that his body is currently interred between both his parents' graves.

The 77-year-old reportedly made the request while she was involved in a long-running dispute with her granddaughter, Riley Keough, 33, over the Graceland multi-million dollar estate of late Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis and Priscilla.

Despite being entangled in the legal battle - which ended on Tuesday in a joint settlement - Priscilla made a request to be buried next to Elvis at his legendary estate in Memphis, according to TMZ.

Sources told the publication that Priscilla's request was instantly denied, as it would involve moving his parents' gravestones, and she 'backed down'.
It was her one shot at having any visitors at her grave.
