What sad news. She was one of my very favorites, and IMO the most beautiful star ever. R.I.P., Miss Taylor.

Who looks like this? Seriously who has a waist that big? Who on this earth looks like that?

It's so tough not to place so much emphasis on "beauty" when a person looks as Elizabeth Taylor did. The fact though that she had short legs, and Richard Burton would tell her so I mean that makes it even more unreal. I recall as a kid my mom saying 'They say Elizabeth has ugly hands, but I'd take those hands alright".

It's weird my gentleman friend stopped by a minute ago and thought my mom bit the dust because I was crying. I can't believe I would shed a tear for someone I didn't know in real life.

Filly, This incredible lady has affected many of us. Don't be shy about your tears.

Like I said earlier, Liz was my mom's favorite actress while I was growing up. Mother still has issues of LOOK and/or LIFE magazine featuring ET that she has saved from back in the day.

I recall her saying that ET's waist size was only 16 or 18 inches, IIRC. I think she also identified with her because of her short legs as she (and myself) have short legs too!

ET's death makes me sad because it brings forth the reality of my own Mum's mortality. She is getting on up there and lives in another state and I am sad that I don't live closer as I am sure she is greiving.

Dame Elizabeth sure left me with some great memories of quality time with my mom and I thank her for that!

I love this movie (who's afraid of virginia wolfe?)! I can watch it over and over again and be completely amazed at the caliber of acting. I love Liz in this movie so much!!!! As a classy and beautiful woman she manages to pull off the b***chy, crass, rauchy alcoholic character so easily. I always wondered if acting against her husband made it easier or more difficult in this film LOL!

Love ya Liz! xoxox

p.s. No one ever dare re-do this movie! There is no one, in my opinion, who could top her!

Elizabeth died on the same day as Mike Todd - March 22 - he in 1958...

RIP Elizabeth

I'm shedding a few tears too. I adore Elizabeth Taylor. I will continue to adore her even after her death.

She was my first crush on an actress where I had to watch every single one of her movies and read every article I could about her fantastic life. (I'm using the word crush as a platonic infatuation).

I think this Sunday I'll set up my own minimarathon of Liz Taylor movies to stream on netflix. This news just made me so sad today :( RIP Liz.

I was shocked and saddened when I got up and saw the headlines.

Elizabeth Taylor was truly a Hollywood Legend.

I immediately went to the TV and ordered up Cleopatra. That is my favorite movie of hers. It was where she met and fell in love with Richard. And the stars that were in it.
Being its 4 hours long, I watched the first 2 and a half and will wait for DH to get home to watch the rest.

She was beauty personified. The thing is, with me, she was real. There was no botox, no plastic surgery, no cosmetic procedures back in her day. You either had it or you didn't. And baby, she had it!!!

She lived a whirlwind of a life and enjoyed every minute of it. I remember a couple years back, she was fighting a problem with her back again and still went swimming with the dolphins (or was it sharks? lol).

RIP Elizabeth Taylor - you gave the world love, laughter and true beauty.

Beauty personified is such a wonderful way to describe her.

The tribute will also feature the screen legend in "Lassie Come Home" (1943) and "National Velvet" (1944); the comedies "Father of the Bride" (1950) and "Father's Little Dividend" (1951); the historical epic "Ivanhoe" (1952); and the dramas "Giant" (1956), "Raintree County" (1957) and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1958).

Exact schedule is at link.

Rest in peace Elizabeth Taylor.

A true beauty and very talented actress. I loved Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A Place in the Sun.

But I will think of her most as a humanitarian for her work educating people about HIV/AIDS.

I recently watched a movie that I had never known about that starred Liz and Mia Farrow.

It was riveting. It was called the Secret Ceremony. It's a very bizarre film from the late 60's. Definately qualifies in the foreign genre and not classic hollywood. Just thought I'd throw that in there in case any of Liz's fans want a very different performance from Liz. Creepy awesome performance.

One of a kind indeed. I loved her.
I came to WS early today - I was awakened to this news, It is sad but expected she had not been well in a very long time. (I got distracted on the PP threads).

I remember many Halloweens dressing up my gay friends as Elizabeth and putting make up on them. LOL
Everybody loved her - no wonder she had 8 marriages 7 husbands LOL
She was a beauty, a talent a big heart, and icon and a legend indeed. YES the most beautiful of them all.
She was only 79 but lately looked much older :( and ironically I hear she died on the same day as one of her husbands Michael Tod. But it is Burton who I think is waiting for her on the other side. :)

RIP BEAUTY with the lavender eyes, your beauty has no runner up.
