I don't know anymore. I am actually kind of worried, for the first time. I just had dinner with my older brother, an attorney. We briefly talked about this case, and I was saying how confident I was, because the DT has not and will not be able to prove Self Defense.

My bro said 'so what ?'. They are probably not even really aiming for that. A great strategy is sometimes to 'hide the ball in the laundry basket', as he calls it. You get the state to spend time and energy arguing against 'self defense' and so they feel confident in their position. Meanwhile the DT slowly builds a legal foundation for something else, and gets the judge to include the lesser charges.

So for example, if they can get the DV expert to convince the jury that Jodi was a true victim of violence, then the battered woman syndrome creeps up.
And they try to get one or two sympathetic jurors to believe that JA was a silent victim and snapped when he came at her once again. It is not a true self defense strategy, it is more like a ' self defense at first but then I snapped from the constant abuse and committed overkill.'

It could come out of nowhere if they play it right.

IMO, nobody will buy her story of abuse.

During her testimony relating to her parents, it was Nurmi who used the words "beating" and "abuse". When he asked her how she felt when her mother used the wooden spoon, she used the word "betrayed". That was so far off. The wooden spoon was part of my upbringing and I would never use that word. Scared, yes. Betrayed, never.

I could go into all kinds of problems with this part of her testimony, but it has been covered here before.

With respect to Travis, with the exception of the alleged choking incident, the few others incidents are very strange examples. When she related the incidents, there was no passion in her voice. I was assaulted twice by my ex, and her bland descriptions ring hollow. Even if one blocks the full memory, the emotions are still there.

I understood her to be the last scheduled defense witness, but I've never seen the actual witness list myself.

If we had a current list, we could obviously check off each witness and determine by trial and error whether she is likely to be last. There are often peeps on the lists whom are never called, but it's unlikely they'd want the jury to have anyone else on their minds when deliberations begin than the one whose job it is to make JA nothing but a helpless, hapless victim whom TA practically ordered to murder him.

There has been speculation that they will call Matt McCartney to the stand, but I don't know if anyone has been able to confirm that.

wow. You know that scared look in TA's eyes in the shower? I wonder if he looked up, after thinking she had already left, and she is there, holding the gun to her own head? She might have messed with him at first, then pointed it at him instead. [ gun and/or knife]

This has always been my scenario. Travis thought that Jodi had finally left so he was free to shave and take a shower. Jodi knew that the relationship with Travis was over for good and all and that she had not been able to convince him to take her to Cancun with him. I think that Jodi said her goodbyes and pretended that she was leaving but went out to her car, got the gun and/or knife, maybe changed clothes or layered her clothing, and confronted Travis in the shower. :moo:

The single most infuriating thing "Dr." Samuels did IMO is to say that pedophiles are good at covering up, with assistance from their families, and that it shouldn't be surprising that nobody was aware of this alleged part of Travis. He seemed to me to be acting as if it was a foregone conclusion that of course Travis was a pedophile. It was a sort of throw-away line and I think it's too late now for JM to question him about it. I agree that ALV has some hard work ahead of her.

Hello

This is my first post, and I have a question.

I recall Dr. S. stating that Jodi told him that Travis had pictures of women's breasts on his computer...IMO not true at all....but would "pedophiles"{ and I do not believe for one second, that Travis was one...} have pics of women's breast', IDK....just wondering.

My guess is that the protective order is not to protect "how much" the DT is being paid, but rather, the details on "what" the money is being spent on. Those details could reveal DT strategy, and that's what they don't want publicized.

Does the defense have budget restrictions?

Day 35: pt 3
JW/Dr Sam

The more that JW tries to explain the problems with Dr Samuels, the more attention she is calling to them.

“ how do you assess someone who is lying to you?

By the consistency of the reporting…the diary, text messages, e-mails, reports from others…[ Aren’t these just more lies ? ]
Q: “ maybe she didn’t write negative stuff cuz there wasn’t anything?’

JW: did u use other ancillary things besides the journal to see if there was anything negative?

DS–:I did

JW; “ text messages—for example #444”

TA says “no not call me ,do not text me, either fess up or feel my wrath… “

JW; Is this not threatening behavior? Are thses comments hurtful and mean?

Here is another TEXT FIGHT. She reads more angry texts, and you can see Jodi doing her ‘victim’ face.

So she reads off this entire tirade of Travis’s, where he is obviously freaked out by her…AND THAT IS SUPPOSED TO HELP THE DEFENSE?

Here it is = she hoped he would CHANGE. I bet we hear a lot of tht from ALV next week. Jodi was hurt and shamed by mean Travis, but she never said anything negative because she hoped he would ‘change.’

This proves she has low self esteem and is not assertive according to the doctor. I wonder what ALV will say about low self esteem and non assertiveness? LOL

===================================================

HERE IS THE IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION THAT HAS BEEN CREATED FOR ALV.

On one hand, we have these journals and these anecdotes on 48 Hrs and these police interviews, where Jodi herself explains the wonderful and loving kindnesses expressed by Travis. We hear how he always reached out to generously help those in need, both strangers and friends, and he gave her a place to store her things and a place to stay when she was moving, and the lovely Cinnabon story, and the Cinderella story of the night they met, where he invited her to the Executive Ball and the night he treated her like a goddess with the candles and rose petals...etc etc.

And even though he gave into sin and temptation with Jodi, he had a highly motivated and successful demeanor, lots of friends and an active religious life.

We have to contrast this positive information with the 'dirt' that Jodi is attempting to muddy him up with. And it is really hard to believe much of it. For corroboration, they keep going back to the 'hurtful' stuff he wrote when he calls her a sociopath and tells her to get lost because she is ruining his life with her evilness. I don't think that helps her case that much.

It tends to make her look just as bad if not worse. And the ONLY other dirt we have on Travis comes from Jodi's lying mouth. That's it. Her 'word' that he looks at pix of lil boys.
And it is only her word that he 'choked her out.' And kicked her in the finger. Oh, and 'backhanded' her in the neck while they were driving. I think that is the extent of it, until that fateful day that he became a deadly ball of fury, and she had to slaughter him.

So we have all stories and this evidence and this corroboration of these kind hearted, generous actions of Travis throughout his life and NO one coming forward to say he broke their finger or choked them out. Except Jodi. And it is odd, because Jodi spent the last several years PROTECTING Travis's reputation. That is why she never reported his abuse or told anyone he was a pedophile, including his friends who had little kids. She did not even write about any of it in her journal, she was so protective of his good name. But I guess now she just decided to come clean and tell the world how evil he really was. :waitasec:

So ALV has quite the task. She has to convince the jury that the only person who knew the 'real' Travis was Jodi. He fooled all of the rest of the world for all those years. But Jodi is telling the truth now, no more alternate realities for her. Is ALV going to try and sell that story to the jury?

The other "fact" that is uncorroborated is the frequency of anal sex between JA and TA. It seems as if everyone (even the pros team) is accepting JA's version. It is entirely possible that this was NOT as frequent as she reports since she lies about most everything.

:moo:

But why would she be holding a camera during the attack? I can't get in through my head as to why anyone would juggle a camera, a knife, and a camera at the same time. Why would she even have the camera with her? Why would she deliberately leave the camera behind (and wash it)?

The 'sideshows' highlighted in the article:

"Late Wednesday afternoon, a mobile phone rang suddenly in the middle of testimony in the Jodi Arias murder trial in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Its ringtone, literally, was the hee-haw of a braying jackass. Whether it was set off on purpose is unclear, but the young woman who owned the phone was escorted out of the courthouse.

It had been a long day of stop-and-go testimony about whether Arias truly cannot remember how she killed her secret lover, Travis Alexander, and a day of interminable sidebars, with the judge and lawyers arguing at the bench, their voices masked by the judge’s much-used white-noise machine.

And just when it seemed that the proceedings could not get stranger, a spectator in the gallery vomited loudly and copiously in front of her seat and again as she ran toward the hallway."

someone dreams of writing for Harlequin methinks. That was the only decent part of the whole article. Secret lover? She killed him after hours of lovemaking? :screwy:

Thank you so much, Dmacky! I've been looking for that interview for weeks!
Mystery solved.

You are very welcome. There is sooo much about information about JA that it's hard to find what you are looking for, believe me I know! I remembered seeing that interview, but couldn't remember where. So all I did was google JA mugshot. It's easier than digging through all of the evidence, and it usually works

The defense DV witness has written a book about why women stay with the men who abuse them, and her answer is "learned helplessness".

What is her whole name?? I want to research her. BTW Janie Drivers book just came and going to try to read it over the weekend. If I can stay off her long enough.:floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh:
