Aaron Hernandez has a Facebook page with over 50,000 likes (no clue is this a lot?)

He won the award for best tight end while playing with Tebow for the Gators and coach Urban Meyer,

He faces five gun charges as well as first degree murder

Shanea Jenkins at first could not be found after Hernandez was arrested and police were worried before finding her. She attended Bristol Central High School with her sister and Hernandez

• The Patriots denied Friday that they had prior knowledge that Hernandez was going to be charged with murder before they cut him,

Two weeks before Alexander Bradley said Aaron Hernandez shot him in the face, Hernandez was with Bradley when the latter was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Jan. 28, according to a report in Saturday's Boston Globe.

When a state trooper pulled up to a black SUV stopped on the highway at 2:20 a.m. the driver took off and a high-speed chase ensued, reaching speeds of 105 mph before the trooper apprehended the vehicle. At that point, according to the police report cited in the Globe, Hernandez yelled out the front passenger side window, “Trooper, I’m Aaron Hernandez — it’s OK.” Bradley failed sobriety tests and said he had been drinking at Cure, the same nightclub where Hernandez reportedly got into a fight before the double murder in 2012.

Court records show police smelled marijuana in the car and found a container of alcohol and semi-automatic pistol underneath the front passenger seat

Lefeged, who grew up outside Washington, is entering his third NFL season

An attorney for Wallace, David Meier, told The Boston Globe that his client was visiting his mother and other family members in Miramar when he realized he was wanted in Massachusetts and went to police.

AH-- He is remembered as a fun-loving teenager at Bristol Central High School, where he followed in the footsteps of his older brother, D.J., who would star as a quarterback and tight end at the University of Connecticut. ..... but remaining determined to become a pro athlete, spending hours working out before and after school.

A former high school teammate, Andrew Ragali, 24, ....``You could maybe say he was immature, but he wasn't a gang-banger at all,'' Ragali said. ``I think when he went to college things might have changed, hanging around with the wrong people, but in high school, he wasn't like that at all.'' Ragali recalled seeing Hernandez again, years after high school, at a Hartford bar. He described him as quieter, with more tattoos. But said he was very nice, asked about his family and took pictures with his girlfriend.

On Wednesday night, police searched a Bristol home and garage owned by Andres Valderrama, whom WFSB-TV identified as an uncle.

Hernandez became a father on Nov. 6 and said he intended to change his ways:

More than 275 people packed the green cushioned pews and the aisles of Church of the Holy Spirit attending the funeral service for Odin Lloyd, the 27-year-old Dorchester man whose body was found earlier this month in North Attleborough. Another 150 people listened to the service in a nearby overflow room, and at least another hundred stood outside, unable to get a seat.

I am starting to wonder if he actually fired.WOnder how long gun powder would have stayed on?

Aaron and his brother each earned honors as the state's Gatorade high school player of the year, although they played several years apart at Bristol Central.

Not into football but this was interesting piece in terms of the action!

the reason for that was his personal character. In our pre-draft research we discovered that there were failed drug tests and there was a general feeling that Hernandez couldn’t be believed and trusted.

Hernandez had good “football character” but his personal character left something to be desired. During the interview process, he would not make eye contact with the interviewer and did not seem believable. When you asked him questions about his past and failed drug tests his answers were vague at best. He never confronted the “issues.”

People around the Florida program said he lived on the edge and couldn’t be trusted.

In short there was a side of Aaron Hernandez that was very questionable and we had serious doubts as to wanting to get involved with him as a player. Too much risk…not enough reward.

Finding out about a prospect's character is not a one year study done by one scout. It’s an ongoing process and years in the making and done by many people. All clubs do not do their character research the same way.

....also do some checking with people on campus to find out “what” the problem was/is.

...If there are concerns about a prospect's life back home then he has to check with people who know the player in his home town. That could be a former teacher, guidance counselor or coach.

When a prospect is in his final year, the interview process starts with people directly involved with the program.

A good scout will also talk to the academic advisor and campus police if there were some past problems.

Football Character and Personal Character

Football character and personal character. Football character is a player’s passion for the game, his work ethic, his desire to be great, competitive nature and leadership. Personal character is how a person lives his life. Is he a good citizen? Is school important to him? Is he involved in the community? His family life and background. Who does he hang out with, etc.?

Must confess, did not know it was that big a deal --they run up, down and all about chasing a little brown ball!

I Used To Play Basketball Against Aaron Hernandez And His Brother DJ, And They Scared The S$$$ Out Of Me

when I was 12, I played basketball against Aaron Hernandez....Why? Becauvse he was a f scary kid. And there were two of him.

Needless to say, DJ was a scary-*advertiser censored* dude, and his brother Aaron followed right in his footsteps.

Bristol is a tough, post-industrial city, with an incredible sports pedigree.

I don’t know, a seriousness that felt like the court got freezing cold when he was on it. It felt like he’d do anything to win, and not smile when he did. It was as if he was playing just to elbow the wind out of your solar-plexus. Winning was just a symptom of destroying other kids during a “game”.

I’ve never played sports against anyone like this since, and it really is frightening
Come to think of it, two of my high school teammates have been killed or paralyzed by gang-related incidents since graduating. So I’ve definitely been around some hard dudes. And none compared to the Hernandez brothers.

No one.

their Dad was hard, too. In a good way, though....“He was a strict, really good guy,” he said. “Definitely no nonsense.”

I remember seeing the younger Aaron, who at 9 would occasionally play up with his brother, and wondered how a child could make such a terrifying face. Eyebrows furrowed, no smile. Put it this way: if my child ever made that face, I’d never ground him.

I’m not condoning judging a book by it’s cover. It’s just that some books look and feel like they want to kill you.

Yeah, they do amazingly thorough background checks on these guys. Some teams just don't give a :censored: and others will take a guy off their draft board altogether. Even if he's a first round talent.

I haven't read that yet, but I'll just say I don't think Ray Lewis killed anyone. I DO think he knows who did, though.

Hernandez's cap hit will be $2.55 million in 2013 and $7.5 million in 2014. He is still due a $3.25 million signing bonus, though the Patriots are expected to challenge that payment as well.
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/6/29/4477728/aaron-hernandez-contract-patriots-arrest

Hernandez was to receive $2.5 million in guaranteed base salaries over the next two seasons, and his contract does not have language to void that money if he fails to practice. However, the Patriots believe the Collective Bargaining Agreement covers them because he has engaged in conduct unbecoming after being arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd.

The Patriots also voided Hernandez's workout bonuses over the next two years, which add up to $1 million. Finally, the team has voided the rest of his signing bonus, which might be the Patriots' hardest fight.

As for his $3.25 million in signing bonus payment that was to be paid this March, that's a deferred payment that Hernandez already earned after signing his five-year, $40 million contract last year. The Patriots appear to have a serious uphill battle to avoid paying this, but they seem set on making Hernandez fight for this portion of his fully guaranteed signing bonus.

The Boston Globe, which first reported this news, says the Patriots will have a salary-cap hit of $2.55 million for Hernandez next year and $7.5 million in 2014.

“Hernandez should have known that you can’t be a gangster and a football player,” Massey said. “Too much time commitment necessary for both. I tried to bring the hood to New Hampshire, but that’s when I learned to pump my brakes.”
Hernandez, 23, never appeared to learn that lesson. Various photos link him back to gang activity in Bristol, Conn., possibly with the Bloods. He starred as a schoolboy tight end at Bristol Central High, collecting 376 receiving yards in one game. His father, Daniel, died after complications from hernia surgery, and friends and family noted Hernandez’s unraveling off the field while excelling at both football and basketball.
“For me, he was easy,” said UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma, who coached Hernandez on his son’s AAU team, “but then again, I didn’t go home with him.”

He is good looking, he has appeal! Same thing happened with the Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. They grow a legion of adoring online fans from around the world. It's hard for some humans to disconnect from their feelings to physical appearance and connect to the atrocity that may have been committed by this human. Someone can be very good looking, unfortunately, it doesn't mean they are not capable of committing heinous crimes. I think it is more shock too, these men seem to have the world at their feet and then they go make incredibly stupid decisions and lose it all. Very different to a criminal on the other end of the spectrum with a hell of lot less to lose. JMO

Damn... Guess he didn't have the appreciation for money that others do, to stay out of trouble. I say pay the 3.5 mil and be on their way. They can afford this. They should focus on detaching his name from their branding and in the media, for future profitability. JMO

I wonder how the 2 sisters are handling this.
One who's fiancee may have killed her sisters boyfriend. I can't imagine how that might be handled.

Good point. And I wonder if the fiancée will make any public statements or be told to keep quiet through all this. We haven't heard from either sister yet, although we saw the fiancée leaving the courthouse.

“That's my guy, man,” Branch said of Hernandez, according to the Albany Herald. “That's my guy. It really shocked me. He was a great kid. Overall, I hope the best that he isn't involved with it and I hope he gets his name cleared, but most importantly I send my prayers and condolences out to the Lloyd family."

"I love (Hernandez) to death, and it was shocking to hear his name involved in this situation," Branch also said. "I truly hope and pray he doesn't have any dealings with it.”
