it was stated by the person in the know that (we) would be happy with an arrest at this point. (paraphrasing) indicating the killer is alive and well.

Hmmm... Must be so frustrating for the family!

this case is tragic on so many levels....how would you like to be part of the perps family and have suspicions about your own family members? by now the families are all multi generational.

In a few days, it will be 46 years since a gutless coward cut down 15 year old Henry. This psychotic couldn't rely on his fists like a man, so he used a bat. 46 years of pain for Henry's family, but 46 cozy and warm winters for his killer. I would say that justice will happen, but what are the chances of that? A small town that seems to know who did it but cower like scared mice, an inept police force, physical evidence that exists but is not retested....yeah sorry about that Henry, we miss you but not enough to get you justice...unbelievable.

I feel your frustration but I disagree with your assessment. I feel that very few people know who did it and i also believe that it was fairly recently that someone came forward and "confirmed what we always believed" in terms of the people who have kept the investigation and interest going all these years. all of this is in the public domain.

It would seem that it was fairly recent as not too long ago the police were stating they did not know who did this, though I believe the police are still stating publicly that they are looking for information.
Having grown up nearby when this happened, I know some of the people that are in the various news stories as well as a few who have commented on FB. This case has always bothered me and confused me as to who could have done this.
I am wondering though how it was "confirmed" by someone who came forward. I would think that would mean that this person was either there, and if so they are a witness, or perhaps they saw the culprit(s) running from the murder site, or perhaps one of the culprits that were there confessed to this person that came forward. If any of those are the case I would think that could be pursued further by the police.
If it was someone that had confessed to this person that came forward, and they had mentioned other names, if that person passed away I believe that may be hearsay as far as evidence in court.
Or it may be a situati0n where they are considering it reliable but its a case of someone that was supposedly there told someone, that then told me, so 2nd or 3rd hand so I think that would also be hearsay.
RIP Henry. I hope this can get resolved somehow.

“it was fairly recently that someone came forward and "confirmed what we always believed"

Maybe I am taking your comment out of context. But, when I read it, it sounds like more “than a few “ knew what went down and who the players were.

I wish they would let me in on the secret. Cause I still don’t have a clue who killed Henry. Obviously there’s no remorse from anyone who was there, if, indeed, there were others present. Then, again, I’ve “heard” they are too afraid to come forward.

“I’ve “heard” they are too afraid to come forward.”

After 40 years what could they be afraid of?? It’s not like there was Mob or CIA involvement

that was a quote from someone extremely close to the investigation, the way i see it is, the police know, the family knows, and a few people very close to the investigation.

There are many other groups to be afraid of...

please, what “group” in Swampscott are you talking about that someone in would be in fear of? we’re talking about townies in their 60s from one of the most affluent town on the North Shore.
Agree!

I say with near certainty that the killer was at the funeral

All they have to do is talk to LE about their concerns and allow them to investigate. We live in a different world today. Law enforcement has many new tools at their disposal to investigate and prosecute anyone who poses a threat to a witness to a murder investigation. Their online and cell phone activity can be monitored, their movements digitally tracked via their car or cell phone. If the FBI is called in, they can't hide behind a fake identity online to make threats. And if they do make a threat online today, they'll be arrested.

Follow enough cases here at WS and you'll see witnesses are protected when they assist the prosecution. Threats are often a lot of hot air. Who is going to risk life in prison for some 60 plus guy who was guilty of killing an innocent 15 yo kid? People who some might have thought were powerful in 1974 aren't as powerful anymore.

I can't imagine anyone in Swampscott wouldn't help protect someone who came forward to help bring justice for Henry. The town would probably make them a hero for helping out.
