Today marks 46 years since Henry's death. For those who want to pay respects at his grave virtually, I found this video:

Just a friendly reminder to help with some confusion and misunderstanding about posts here:

If you're posting something that is speculation or otherwise not known to be fact, include JMO - just my opinion or MOO - my opinion only, etc.

WS is a victim and family-friendly place, so we respect and support the family and friends of victims.

JMO, something to consider regarding anyone who might have information to help bring justice for Henry: while there may not be much evidence remaining from the crime scene (the bat, the thumbprint), there are other possibilities for evidence:

Someone may have seen something that night - the actual murder or the killer leaving the scene, etc. with blood on their clothing, etc.

Someone may recognize the bat, the murder weapon

Someone may have heard the killer discussing what happened

Someone may have been asked to fabricate an alibi for the killer

IOW, there could be information known by some folks out there that could still help lead to an arrest and conviction.

JMO

i have not heard any other credible theory, ever. stay healthy, this one will end in confession but not any time soon.

I agree and said from the start that I have not heard any credible theory and go back and forth on it being a local he was meeting, someone from out of town-wrong place at the wrong time, a perp hiding in the community that we did not know about, etc. The State Police detective and other local LE have said essentially the same things, though that was some time ago.
I will take it as a a good sign that one close to the case/family has now commented that they have had someone confirm what the have have always believed. I hope this helps the family and those close to have a least a little closure though I am sure it is frustrating that there is not enough to bring it forward.
I believe you are correct that it may end in a confession but not any time soon-Stay healthy!

Henrys sister wrote that he was listening to jim croce "time in a bottle' over and over in his room in the months prior to his murder while also reading a book entitled "time to die". in hindsight she stated it was all very strange. it is possible that whatever led to the end of his life started months earlier.

It was a number 1 hit. Not strange at all that he was listening to it a lot

So

So, what is the predominant theory? Does Anyone on this thread know?
I am curious if there are any predominant theories from locals. I suspect it will vary with some having no idea, some may have a theory and some say that they think someone knows something but is not coming forward.

EndlessEnigma-did you state a while ago that you had heard the killer was from a prominent family who protected him?

my opinion is the locals wasted a lot of time thinking it was a "hobo from Lynn" They didn't want to believe someone from their town, much less a kid, could do something so heinous.

Classism clouded the investigation.

The original local police leaders/investigators stated previously that they felt it was a local kid that he knew and stated that they interviewed many people.
If it was a local or kid from town, one thing that is a bit surprising to me is how quiet it was kept for years in a relatively small, tight knit town. I was not the exact same age but growing up in town I never heard any real suspects names thrown about. From what I understand and have read, even kids the same age as Henry did not seem to have an idea.
Of course there was no internet or social media back then, so it was certainly easier to keep things quiet back then, as well as also easier to prevent rumors from being thrown about, which may not be a bad thing vs. today.

There was no investigation in 1974, there were no qualified officers to investigate a murder. this is not a conspiracy they just didn't have homicide detectives in swampscott back then. someone on here said the rumors from day one was older kids. "prominent" never meant protected.

Agree on the investigation. The weather/rain didn't help either. With todays investigative knowledge, standards & technologies vs. the 70s, this would have probably been solved.
Note: "protected" was stated, I believe a few times including "I heard the killer was from a prominent family who protected him.". I have heard something similar to that at one time, though no specifics and was just a guess IMO. The older kids theory seems to be as good as any, and maybe someone does know something.
