Back in August when I started following this thread I immediately thought that Sandra went into witness protection. But then I thought that maybe I was just overthinking it.
And I didn’t join WB until Sandra’s thread no longer appeared on the first page of the MPD.

However around that time I started to follow my first abduction case, intently (Cupcake’s :() & kind of temporarily lost sight of everything besides Cupcake. Which is why I didn’t post this probably absurd idea back in mid-October when I finally broke down & joined.

The thing I’ve never been able to get past is that she had only moved to Hanson three months prior. I have to wonder if someone from her past life (she lived in Quincy IIRC) came to town. I’d be curious to know whether that purse seen under her arm in the video was at her house.

Family fears foul play involved in disappearance of grandmother missing 40 days from Massachusetts home

Laina said she discovered the back door was unlocked. Once inside, she noticed her mother’s shoes and purse were gone.

I don't know a lot about witness protection, though I can guess it's not something that would be offered except in very important legal circumstances....federal crimes? It would have to be something she was involved in that was at the same time very serious and that her family had zero clue about?

You’re absolutely right! That’s why I said that it was probably an absurd thought on my part.

So now you have my mind racing. We live in the next state over and my aunt and uncle experienced a violent, but not deadly home invasion. A few of us believe that my uncle may have got involved with people that he borrowed and then owed money to. Maybe SC was mixed up in something and got in over her head and her family didn’t know about it. I suppose it could be something so simple like an informal sports betting for money or something. It seems harsh to think that it would happen to a grandmother living alone, but then again, when I was little, the grandmother that lived next door to my family had a home invasion. A man dressed as a utility worker said they needed to check the meter inside the home. She let them in-and they beat her up and stole all they could find. But for SC, there was no apparent sign of struggle and no obvious mess, aside from mention of the bed boards. And then there is the missing purse. IMO

But see we don't have complete information - we don't know everything about how the house looked or what seemed suspicious. We only know what LE has released and what her daughter has said in interviews. That cannot be 100% of the information.

Is it coincidence that something happened to her during a time when she had no car? Who would know that she didn't have a car (and therefore no way to escape) and could they have used that to their advantage?

Also,

She didn't have plans to watch the kids until friday, as the daughter had the day off on Thursday, so is it possible she spoke to someone earlier in the day, or the days prior, and had plans to go away for the night? They pulled the landline call history so I'm sure all the numbers had been checked, but still, it's weird to think someone she knew would just show up to her house unannounced (seeing as there were no suspicious phone calls from her landline **that we know of, which makes me think if someone did come to her house it was a stranger, or an unexpected visit from someone), when she watches 3 kids all day, given she didn't just up and leave the house.

She hadn't been in town for that long and probably didn't know that many people.

Could there have been someone at the auto repair place? Either an employee or another car owner? They would have known she didn't have a car--"if you're getting tired of sitting at home I'll swing by and take you out for a coffee"--that seemed harmless at the time?

WP is also available at the state level; just not in every state. MA does have it but just as the federal program, it is only used in very specific instances. I cannot imagine any reason why SC would be in WP... MOO

You're right...from everything stated in MSM, she hadn't been there long enough to know many people yet, besides being a homebody/private type of person in general.

On the Boston News 25 facebook post about Bob Ward's interview with the daughter (it contains the full news story that he did), many people commented wondering about the auto shop employees and family members of Sandra said that the auto shop people were among the first to be checked into and ruled out. Of course, it's unknown if this is 100% accurate or if as you say, perhaps another customer may have overheard. But keep in mind, she was not alone at the shop. She was with 3 kids and the family member who took her there. So any person observing her with ill intentions would have had to make lots of guesses about how alone she would be or even where she lived and with whom.

The thing that’s so weird is she didn’t have a cell phone or computer. So the usual guesses about a secret life as an escort or an online date gone wrong or even a gambling addiction are unlikely. And it’s a small, safe town out here in southern Mass. Where is she??

Sandra was dropped off at her home on Wednesday after dropping off her car at the auto mechanic. Family (daughter?) spoke to her via land line telephone later than evening.
Unable to reach Sandra all day/evening on Thursday- but no one went to her house?
She didn’t have a car - where did they think she would be?

A couple of things your questions bring to mind. Without knowing the actual personalities involved, this is just speculation.

First, when someone doesn't have a cell phone or computer by their own choice, you have to get used to a different level of contact with them. There will be times when they are just unreachable, which is so unusual in this day and age that you have an entirely different expectation for them compared to other people who are more connected. Though in hindsight the daughter says she was uneasy after the first unanswered call, by the same token she knows that all it takes is for her mom to be in the shower, outside smoking, or taking the dog for a walk for that call to go unanswered. It's not the same level of urgency as when it's someone you can reach by multiple means...call, text, email, fb messenger...and they haven't responded to any of them.

Second thing. Sandra is always described in the press as a "grandmother," but she was a very young grandmother at only 54. She had no health problems, reportedly. If I call my kids' grandmother and she doesn't answer, I'm immediately thinking she fell and broke her hip. But she's 30 years older than Sandra. So Sandra's daughter is probably not jumping to the worst conclusion when Sandra proves hard to get ahold of. It's far more likely she just went for a walk.

Thirdly. The daughter is a mom to 3 kids age 5 and under and she also works a demanding job. She has a lot on her plate. She is not the first nor will be the last person who may have been wrapped up in her own life and responsibilities for one day. Probably her mom has always been reliably there before so when she had to make a decision she put her nuclear family first for one day. Something we all have done, and I'm sure the guilt is tremendous.

I am getting pulled back to house as found, red flags. Lights and a/c on back sorry unlocked, shoes &handbag gone. Dog left alone without food or water. Bed slats off or at odd kilter . There's more I believe just off !! Anyone have thoughts?Impressions? Gotta work with what we have. And this is going cold...TIA MOO

I'm curious to know if there was a suspicious car on that night. Dark wooded street with one way in and one way out, to my understanding. The car would have had to turn around, and there would be plenty of noise. Headlights too, unless they were trying to look inconspicuous.

I'm guessing they went through her clothes to see if the ones she was wearing in the convenience store video were there, or missing? If those clothes were there, we know she made it back to her house, and at least changed into other clothes or pajamas. If they're missing, you have to assume she was wearing them when she disappeared - so, Wednesday night sometime, before bed.

And at this point I don't know what difference it would make... but there's so little to go on here.

Really smart post! Never thought about the clothes she would have had on at the convenience store and how that information could help.
