This is another interesting quote from Lt. Fogarty of the NH State Police.

Fogarty said he had evidence to believe Lyons had been in the Ossipee area and may have gone on a hiking trip with her dog. He also told the WMUR-9News that they are treating the investigation as a missing persons case and have no reason to suspect foul play.

She may have gone on a hiking trip with her dog? May have? Did she or didn’t she? Sounds like he’s not positive.

I noticed her family had said there were no confirmed sightings, but wasn't sure if that was within TOS since it was on social media. Now that it is in a news article, seems it would be. I wonder why her family and the NH State Police have a different take on that?

I interpreted the sister's comment to mean she hadn't been seen since she was at the shore of the lake, but I guess it's unclear.

I have no idea what TOS means?
I think the family and NH State Police have a different take on this. Because the police deal with the media all the time. And in this situation just put out a statement to satisfy the media’s curiosity. With nothing in the statement concrete.
No doubt the police have checked phone, bank records, impounded the car. And likely done things that I or yourself have not even thought of. It seems they’ve not released or held and further media briefing’s. Possibly because it may hinder their case? But no doubt they have a tremendous amount of info.
I haven’t been to Lowell in 24 years. But was born there and grew up in what was the Irish section of the city. So took a personal interest in this, when reading about it in the news. The other day came across Websleuth just by chance while doing an internet search. I now live in New Hampshire. Have never been to Lake Ossipee, but have driven by many times on my way to the White Mountains. In the next couple of days I may take a ride with a friend to Lake Ossipee, curious now to see where she supposedly was.

Sorry! TOS=Terms of Service. Basically, I'm trying to make sure I'm not skirting any rules about Facebook, Twitter, etc. I usually hang out in the forums for long cold cases, where social media accounts do not really come into play, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't posting anything here that I might have come across that would be considered against the rules. It is easy with social media to be looking at Sinead's account, which is considered OK, or a news article, and then learn other details which would probably fall under sleuthing relatives, or people not considered suspects, even when that isn't the intent. i.e. the info was just out there. Hope this helps clarify!

I'm in NH too. Used to go hiking in The Whites quite a bit when younger. Be safe.

People who live in or hike in the White Mountains don't usually say "gone on a hiking trip" if they mean "walked her dog at the lake." Usually that's reserved for longer, more serious hikes, more rugged terrain.

Like, I sometimes drive Mr. Carbuff to the Whites for his all-day hiking trips. While I'm waiting, if the weather is good, I might walk out to Diana's Baths or something.

This makes me think she might have continued around the lake beyond the edge of the park. It does get quite rugged there.

Hmmm....I noticed the Green Mountain Trailhead is close. Is there anything that connects the park? I can't really tell from the map? Since it was such a nice day, could she have headed that way? It seems if she did, they would have found her though??

Edited: it looks like a road connects the two? I was just thinking more about the "hike", aspect of the comments above. That's more of a hike. Hmm.

Well, dur, that's the whole reason she went to Ossipee, the whole reason her car was found there at a parking lot for a hiking area, and the whole reason she's missing with her dog!
She said she was going to google some trails, went there and has gone missing.
There's no 'may have gone' IMO.
These police, jeez.....

I don’t believe she fell through the ice or was abducted while at Lake Ossipee if imdeed she was there.
Is is possible she met someone on a online dating website. Then drove to the parking lot at Ossipee to meet that person? Left her car there. Then got into their car and left?
Also articles mention Lake Ossipee and maybe North Conway. How is she traced to North Conway???

The "whole reason" that she went to Effingham was to pick her dog up at her ex boyfriend's, who was Flossie's breeder. I am local to this, I spent all of my summers growing up and into my 20's in the Ossipee/Freedom/Tamworth/Effingham Falls area and live very close now. I know this area very well and still hike and mountain bike this area often. Going camping to Danforth Bay Resort this summer which was my summer home in my younger years.

Anyhow, there is no "dur" here. LE has had boats with sonar out there, drones, they've been walking and searching land and divers in the water. My own opinion and just gathering information from other locals and such- either her and the dog drowned or foul play. I can't say more because even though I am a local, I am not a Verified Insider.

We will be helping out with future searches if need be.

The Lt. Fogarty said she 'may have' gone to hike. What I'm trying to say is, surely that's the only reason she went to Ossipee. Otherwise, why didn't she just collect the dog at Effingham and go back home....? Or hike elsewhere?

I don't understand the 'may have' part of it. It seems quite sure to me. And Lt. Fogarty didn't offer any other ideas why she could've been there either....

Isn't Ossippee between Effingham and Lowell? I'm thinking she picked up the dog in Effingham, headed to Ossippee park for a walk (hike) with the dog to get his energy out and to enjoy the nice day, and then keep going to Lowell. Maybe it's not the most direct route home, but she wasn't interested in the most direct route.

I'm not local, though. (I have been to. Lowell but not the other locations.) Is the route really off?

Ossipee/Effingham/Freedom is basically a triangle and not very far from each other. I can drive from Effingham Falls to Freedom then to Ossipee within 5 minutes from start to finish.

Until they find her on the trail, it's "may have." We do not know. Even if that was her intention, it doesn't mean she was able to do it.

It's so frustrating, I just want Sinead (and Flossie) to be found. Every day goes past with no new clues....just nothing. It's soooo frustrating.

For the 1st week or so of her disappearance I was in the 'foul play' state of mind, but the past 2 or 3 days I'm starting to be more of the opinion she and Flossie did have an accident and fall through the ice on the lake.
It's all too sad. :(

At the time when he said that, they were still gathering information and interviewing people. At that point, he was told that she looked up walking places to bring her dog for a walk before heading back to Lowell by the friend (ex boyfriend) that took care of the dog while she was on vacation. They couldn't confirm that probably until the cell phone records were available I would imagine. So, hence, Sinead "may have" gone there to walk the dog.

At this point, so far, I've only heard that "allegedly" some man saw her playing with her dog at Constitution Park. A local woman who was walking spotted her car and noticed it had been there all weekend. When she heard about Sinead being missing, she called LE right away and they towed her car and later on did confirm it was Sinead's.
