incredibly sad-what a twisted mind Mortimer had/has. Hope he enjoys his life stay in the state prison. Bubba won't take kindly to a baby killer.

Thanks Joe-can't imagine what kind of defense this guy will put up...I'm surprised he would want to put himself and his family through a trial....

Mortimer Trial to Begin in the Fall

http://winchester.patch.com/articles/mortimer-trial-set-for-the-fall

August 9, 2011

Fourteen months after Thomas Mortimer, IV, was arrested for murder, his trial will begin on Sep. 13.

The father faces four charges of first-degree murder in connection with the quadruple homicide in his family's Winchester home. He is accused of murdering his wife, 41-year-old Laura Stone Mortimer, her two children, 2-year-old Charlotte Mortimer and 4-year-old Thomas Mortimer V, and Laura's mother, 64-year-old Ragna Ellen Stone.

Authorities allege that the defendant murdered four members of his family after an argument with his wife and ongoing marital discord.

Time for him to plead guilty-guess is doesn't matter-no DP in MA, so might as well take chances with a trial....sad to see that his parents and the family will have to sit through a trial and hear all the gruesome evidence....

his defence will be in part that his wife and her family made his life a misery and he snapped and killed his family because of the stress he was under,

The defense is TRYING to claim that the confession document was taken into "evidence" BEFORE the warrant arrived BUT no specific time stamps were issued on the articles of the home.

Here's another take on the entrance to the home: http://www.boston.com/Boston/metrod...-winchester/wD0vx3BDXtYr7pcgW0noAP/index.html

BTW: the Fire Lieutenant who answered the call with his crew, he is an extremely competent EMT & who is well-versed in crime scene behavior, just some of the "newer stuff" our first responders have along with their turnout gear!

And from yesterday's day in court: http://www.wickedlocal.com/winchest...imer-spends-second-day-in-court#axzz1Z9I3raLL

"Accused Winchester murderer Mortimer spends second day in court" : Probably the headline is making the die-hard, born & bred residents CRINGE.....afterall, HE did originally come FROM CT. and was merely "residing" at a "townie's" (Ellen Stone's) home! At least that would have been "old school" 'tude, now perhaps the atitude is "any publicity is ......, just spell WINCHESTER correctly" NAH, NOT A CHANCE!
MY HUMBLE OPINION, only!!!!!

:truce: BTW: this is the local newspaper, once a tiny, town only business but now part of a "chain" AND like most, internet accessible.
Once upon a time, it's "charm" was that it is hard copy published for delivery on Thursdays & everybody regarded it as "gospel truth" as it was exclusively "done" by long term residential "townies" :innocent: Of course, daily one could read the "Woburn Times" & it's single page of Winchester "news" with sports & adverts intermixed with "regional (Woburn, Reading, Burlington, Stoneham) items"! :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

The hearing was postponed. His attorney has until January 20 to file a notice of mental health. She will have to decide by this Friday whether to use mental health as a defense.

A final decision on the evidence (confession) will also be made on Friday. Judge Kern told the attorneys she is favoring the prosecution's argument.

Another pre-trial hearing is scheduled for February 3.

:truce: I ADORE the 'tude of the staff writers of the local paper: (or at least my humble interpretation) SO WHAT TOMMY BOY, just another delay via your atty!

AND..............should anybody be the least suspicious, YEAH, I AM totally biased against good ole TRANSPLANTED Winchester resident Thomas Mortimer IV! GEE, another case where the prosecution HAS a WRITTEN CONFESSION but oops, he's declaring he's "not guilty"! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

More delays. His attorney tried to have the courtroom cleared and the information in the hearing impounded, than withdrew the motion less than a week later.

Delays upon delays. The judge will finally rule this Wednesday on the motion to suppress evidence seized by police in the initial search of the house. She has indicated she favors the prosecution's argument.

Interesting detail...Mortimer remains on suicide watch, almost two years after his arrest.

http://news.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view/20220213accused_law_bars_me_from_paying_my_defense/

Mortimer, 44, of Winchester, remains on a suicide watch in a windowless administrative-segregation cell at the Middlesex Jail in Cambridge, naked but for a green canvas Velcro-fastened tunic. A correction officer stays seated 4 feet from him 24 hours a day, as Mortimer awaits trial for the June 16, 2010, murders of his wife Laura, 41, his children Thomas “Finn,” 4, and Charlotte, 2, and his mother-in-law Ragna “Ellen” Stone, 64.

Oh wow, I forgot all about this case. You know there are so many of them and by the time they come to trial you have forgotton.
Nope, no DP in MA. And my tax dollars are paying someone to watch him 24/7 so he does not hurt himself? I will stop here before I say the wrong thing!

He doesn't want to pay any of his own money for his defense, though he has plenty stashed away. He wants to keep his son's college fund for himself.
The son he murdered. Takes your breath away.
