Just joined WS recently, and this is my debut post here. I was reading about the Vanessa Marcotte case earlier on the Web, and chanced upon the WS site.

The reason for my interest in this case is that a good friend of mine works at Google, and VM worked for my friend. She was his assistant in the advertising part of the company. My buddy is still torn up about it - says VM was the nicest person you could know, didn't have a mean bone in her body. Google bussed a whole bunch of employees to her funeral in MA.

This doesn't seem like a random attack to me. The NY/ Queens case seems more likely to be a random one. Random attacks are more likely in big cities like NY, where there's typically a larger number of whackos floating around, and you're more likely to run into one. Much less likely in a place like Princeton, with no murder history in decades. JMO

First post.

I’m from Australia but, as a fellow runner, have been following this case and the tragic Karina Vetrano case that occurred just days prior.

Like everyone, I am horrified and disgusted that these women had their lives cut short in such a brutal way – their last moments on this earth would have been terrifying

My thoughts are that Vanessa’s killer is a local who may have been ‘inspired’ by the Vetrano killing and thought: “Who canI target at a local level”?

Perhaps he’s seen Vanessa (or other young females) running down this road before on a Sunday afternoon?

He knows the area and knows that if he can just get her into the bush, nobody will hear or see…and she won’t get any help

He figures that as he is a local, he might come under suspicion or get asked for a DNA sample – hence the burning of the body and taking her clothes

He was also very organized, and had a bag or (less likely) a car to carry her clothes off with, as well as equipment to start a fire

To get her into the bush without her screaming being heard from nearby houses, says to me he was also strong

He knew the area well, and felt comfortable in the environment – he was prepared for this

I also think any suggestion that she was killed somewhere else and dumped where she was found is flawed. That her shoe was recovered close by where she was found makes it highly unlikely she was killed at another location. If she was killed and stripped naked somewhere else, then she would have been taken naked to the location where she was found and her shoe would therefore not have been located there.
Welcome Joshua:
Great post. I agree with just about everything you have posted, with the exception of a few thoughts that I have.
I am not convinced that the perp connected VM with this crime. I think that it was more the law of average, being the middle of summer, thousands of women their ages out jogging etc.If he did get the idea from the VM crime, he only had 5 days to think about it and plan it out. enough time I guess but I think MSM focused too much on that they may be connected. In fact, I think they were wondering of these two murders were also connected with another woman jogger in Mi. that was shot in the back around the same time frame.
I am not sure if the perp took her clothes. Correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't hear MSM /LE say anything about where her clothes were, with the exception of the burnt shoe. He may have burned them, and when the shoe didn't burn all the way, he may have thrown it. LE could also have them.
I agree 100% that the crime happened there. I think there was a scenario where he picked her up, got upset, killed her but didn't mean to, then when he did, he wanted to make the scene look staged, so he risked himself being caught by driving back to the secondary scene, parked where his vehicle could be seen, dragged her into the woods, just happened to have a blow torch with him, tested out the flame from the torch on the logs leaving soot marks 3 or 4 feet long, burned her, all in less than 2 hours? Flawed.
Go back and look at the soot marks on the log. I was caused by soot and not from the log itself burning. That soot was caused by unburned hydrocarbons ... either smoke from wood burning, or from a accelerant like gasoline, or diesel fuel etc. Torches burn clean. I am not convinced any accelerant was used at all. All he needed was a bic lighter, or a match. There was plenty of dry wood around to build a fire.
I have, from the beginning, thought he was on a bicycle, carried it into the woods ahead of VM, not leaving any tracks, knowing the time she went jogging/walking, and waited for her. I agree it was planned. If an liquid accelarant was used, maybe he had it in his water bottle?
This is all a wild guess as to what happened. Due to the lack of clues, anything is possible. At this point in time, I think LE is chasing rainbows. JMO.

I think they are waiting on forensic results, or working legal angles to obtain DNA from a particular individual.

Over the summer, three young women runners – Vanessa Marcotte, Karina Vetrano, and Alexandra Brueger – were brutally murdered while they were out jogging in broad daylight, all in separate incidents. As a woman around their age who went out running most mornings, the attacks hit close to home and forced me to consider my own safety and vulnerability.

i think women are harrased pretty much anytime they are alone, walking to work, going for a jog, it doesn't matter. Cat calls are all too common.

For anyone who may be interested, Fox 25 News in Boston (WFXT) is teasing a feature on Vanessa in New England's Unsolved tonight. Below is the link to their website. The story is not up yet.

Just saw this - I've been off the thread a bit to take care of a few other things - thank you!

As JEF so aptly and wisely posted, "Time is a gentleman."

Considering how much justice for this crime is sought, as any like it, the fear it engenders, how little the family has said publicly, and the lack of updates from LE, there seems to be a growing chance that they may know exactly who did this. Thus speculation here on his profile may be on the mark, but the specifics of his inhuman and soulless cruelty to Vanessa, seems to me, may be of no use to discuss.

Unsolved: Who killed Vanessa Marcotte? A look at the clues left behind
Bob Ward, Kathryn Shehade, report for FOX 25 Boston

Ms. Mary Ellen O'Toole, PhD. at George Mason University in Va,

"a former FBI profiler has spent her entire career studying cases just like this."

[...said]

"probably someone who is very much engaged in predatory behavior which means they are out looking for victims"

[...]

"If there is no relationship with the victim, if this is somebody that was walking along or more likely driving along and decided to do this. That's a unique kind of violence. It’s cold blooded, its predatory, and its without empathy, and it is purposeful. And that's the kind of violence you seen when a stranger goes after someone that they don’t know,"

[...]

“He left her out there, by herself, perhaps sexually assaulted. Perhaps partially nude. Left like she is garbage. That's the kind of crime scene behavior I've seen in my experience. Along with that violence, and along with that evidence destruction that now begins to paint someone who now sees that young woman, Vanessa, not as a human being, but as an object, and its more consistent with someone who is a sociopath, who has no remorse for what they've done,"

[...]

“It could begin by power and control, predator. I’m watching her. She doesn't know it. That's exciting. She has no idea what I’m going to do.Then the motive could shift to wanting to strangle her, or cut her, or being aroused by the manner of death. And then the motive can change to the need to wanting to destroy evidence,"

I saw where another female jogger is missing and she is the mother of two. He husband tried to find her usinf the find my iphone app...found her phone but no trace of her. Is it really getting so bad that we cant even feel safe getting exercise outdoors? Please let this mother be found safe and for those of you jogging by yourself carry mace take a self defense class or carry a taser with you. This has to stop! Heartbroken for women such as Vanessa, Missy Bevers and other women who are trying to stay active and are murdered while jogging or exercising.

Does anybody know if police are still asking locals for DNA samples? If state police are still around? Feels like the case is going cold ..

We have had FBI profilers suggesting there is a psychopath in the area still. Honestly, I think it is wrong for law enforcement to be saying absolutely nothing at this point re: Vanessa Marcotte case. To be giving no updates to reassure the public this investigation is ongoing, making progress, etc.? This is a public safety issue. The public deserves reassurance. It is 3 months now.

I just commented on the fact they should be reporting something. They should be honest and let people know if they are seeking tips still or any way people can help.

Well that was a rather uninformative profile report.

And one I don't really agree with much at all. She said he wouldn't have known her because she didn't grow up in Princeton. If this profiler was actually familiar with this area she would understand how that would be a false assumption.

They do not owe the public info to satisfy our curiousity. It's more important that the case is protected.

The waiting is the hardest part. But Justice will come, I am certain. Soon!
