Yes, absolutely. And this is what is leading me to believe LE knows who the Perp was, and that they are no longer a threat to society. 100% speculation.
With all due respect to you and the police. I doubt that....

Odds are that you are right JEF, but it's a theory I'm kicking around, and attempting to find data to support it. Nothing but rumors thus far, which can't be posted.

I heard a couple of things too. Do you mean the rumor that was kicking around on here maybe a month ago?

Yes, but we can't talk about it since it's a rumor. : )
I am, however, attempting to find any data to support any speculations.

Even if they think they know who it is, without an arrest there is no certainty the public is safe IMO

Wouldn't a rumor from a month ago be ruled out by now? I don't know of the rumor, but just wondering. I have trusted in all they are doing, but now it feels like something isn't right....and Thinkhard - please do not come back at me on this. I don't plan to respond, thank you.

Not if certain parties weren't cooperating by giving buccal swabs. All just speculation, but it keeps niggling at me.

Keep us posted (as much as you can). I looked into that a bit when it was posted here and ended up believing it was unrelated but it sounds like you know more.

I know nothing more than the rest of you or I'd be a verified insider. : ) : )
I'm just looking at anything and everything that has the possibility of leading to something I can attach legit data to. This far, nada. Just random data points that are not yet connecting. Yet I persist!

Hello all,

I doubt that too. Even though they have DNA it is obvious that they are unable for whatever reason to link it to anyone. And they will not leak anything that will hinder the case. The local people that live there I am sure are taking extreme caution in everything they do as it seems no information is forthcoming. So my feeling on the matter is they are at a standstill at the moment which is why nothing has been said. It is what it is and even though of course we all want these cases solved sometimes it just does not happen. We can only hope that someday it will be as with the many other cases that have no answers.

I have followed cases where I thought this too, and then suddenly....wham...an arrest. Sometimes it just takes forensics and coordinating with various agencies longer than we would think.
I think they are well on their way to identifying a Perp.

Would think so (rumor being ruled out) but in the Holly Bobo case, the rumors took some 3 years (was it?)...

Been busy away from home for quite a while. I gather things are still where they were when I left. For what it's worth, I am in the camp that believes there is no further danger to the public from this perp...perhaps the case has been shelved for all I know...I have no knowledge of how these cases proceed after a certain amount of time passes.

Hi all. First time poster, but have been following this thread along since early on.

Count me in with agreeing with Camerabug and roses. I, too, believe that LE knows who committed this monstrous crime and that he’s no longer a threat, which is one reason they’ve been mum. Certainly, this crime suggests the monster lives/lived locally or at least is/was familiar with the area. So if LE believed there was a chance that a murderous maniac who attacks women in broad daylight was still a threat, it seems highly unlikely to me that they’d be radio silent for this long.

Just because they have a DNA sample from Vanessa and haven’t publicly announced a match doesn’t mean, as someone said, that they’re chasing rainbows. It could mean one of two things, in my opinion: 1. They’re still trying to obtain DNA from the suspect or one of his close relatives. 2. They obtained a DNA sample and it matched, but they don’t have a strong enough case to prove anything more than there was some contact between him and Vanessa.

I so hope for justice for Vanessa, her family/friends, and the public, especially the community. Sadly, however, I also think there’s a chance that LE might have their hands tied, and might not ever be able to publicly announce anything even if they feel certain they know who committed this horrendous act. I so hope this doesn’t prove the case.

I agree with the majority on this site, who have expressed the belief that this wasn’t a random crime. My theory is that this maniac was someone who was romantically interested in Vanessa and she wasn’t interested in him in that way, or that he just knew of her and she was the unfortunate outlet for his rage against women.

As a woman, and as a runner, I have felt such empathy for Vanessa and such sadness and outrage that there is such evil in this society. I can't even imagine what her family and close friends must be feeling; seeing pictures of her mother at the funeral is enough to rip a person's heart out.

I agree 100% with your post. I think that LE has not been able to obtain the DNA sample, or has not been able to legally share findings. A unique situation.
Pure speculation and opinion, I ponder whether the Marcotte family might be able to take civil action, which might shake some of this info loose. Just speculation of course.

On a related note, I just started posting on the Sherri Papini thread. Another petite young jogger who has vanished in Redding, CA. This is a very disturbing trend. I never run outdoors when I am traveling, and am now questioning the safety of this practice in my own area. A sad commentary indeed.

We are on the same wavelength, roses. I almost mentioned the civil suit thought in my post.

I really hope that the Marcottes do so for the reason you mentioned -- it might shake some info loose -- but also because I believe they deserve to get whatever money they can from the perpetrator (or his family, if a minor, or estate, if deceased).

That compensation angle aside, it's the punitive nature of civil suits that seems just. People who commit such horrendous acts (as well as those who share responsibility for enabling, covering up, etc.) should be hit in the pocket.

They might not get any money, which I'm sure they don't care much about that, but they might get some justice. Unfortunately, they'd be out money in such a case, since they'd have to pay legal fees.

Yes, I just recently read about the new case in California involving a woman runner. Really sad and infuriating.

Women running (or walking/hiking) alone should ALWAYS have mace or a stun gun on them and NEVER listen to music while running unless they're in an area where there are always people around.

I wish for you safe runs, roses!
