I fail to see how clearing up the inaccuracies from friends or the McCanns themselves would help the abductor "cover up tracks."

Oh well, good night is good enough for now!

Wow, that is a really good deduction. KM can't have it both ways. Either she felt they were being stalked, meaning she wouldn't have felt comfortable enough to leave the children alone. Or they weren't being followed, meaning she made it all up.

Both McCanns are prolific liars.

Day 112 - 23/08/2007

Another early morning start but this time for a series of radio interviews to discuss the survey of MP’s and MEP’s. The survey shows overwhelming support for the introduction of a Europe wide sex offenders register. There is also support to implement a child rescue alert, using local media to inform the community when a child has been abducted and felt to be at serious risk.

There have also been calls for changes in the way child abduction cases are handled in Europe to provide the best expertise available, quickly to the investigating police force. We are uncertain if these measures were in place if it would have made any difference to us finding Madeleine. Kate and I do hope that future changes in legislation and practice will help prevent cases of child abduction and also increase the chances of successfully finding missing children in such circumstances.

Although very serious cases like Madeleine’s (stereotypical kidnapping) are rare, it is very difficult to determine the scale of the problem, as there is no consistency in data collection across Europe. We agree with two leading British Charities (PACT and missing persons) that such data have to be collected with greater accuracy so that the frequency of serious crimes against children can be reliably documented- ideally such data should be available across the EU. Europe is probably 25 years behind the USA in such regard. Change has been driven by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and by families who have suffered high profile child abductions.

Travelled back to the UK tonight to attend to a few personal matters before heading to Edinburgh. I have just heard about the shooting of 11-year-old Rhys Jones in Liverpool. This murder is such a tragic waste of a young life and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Rhys family

Day 113 - 24/08/2007

I started the day early with a pooled telephone interview for the press to talk about the media coverage of the campaign to find Madeleine in advance of my interview at the Edinburgh International TV festival. We touched on the coverage of the investigation and of course the wild speculation and innuendo being reported in some quarters. Although Kate, our friends and myself would love to correct much of the inaccuracy we will not divulge information publicly which might help the perpetrator of Madeleines abduction cover his tracks.

Travelled to Edinburgh this afternoon and managed to keep up the aerobic exercise with 25 minutes in the gym. I then met up with one of our friends who has been instrumental in distributing images of Madeleine and who produced the DVD of her to ‘Don’t you forget about me’. We had a bite to eat and took the chance to update each other on what has been happening in the last few weeks.

Off to bed for an early night after speaking to Kate, who has some family staying with her in Portugal whilst I am in the UK.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyone care to speculate if these are written by the same person....hmmmmm?
"stereotypical kidnapping"...are you freaking kidding me?....
:doh: :doh:
No, I don't think they were written by the same person. The first was written for him by someone else, the second might be GM's own words. Or at least the last two paragraphs were. At least he spells Madeleine's name right.
I thought stereotypical kidnapping was abduction for ransom.
And I don't understand this: Although Kate, our friends and myself would love to correct much of the inaccuracy we will not divulge information publicly which might help the perpetrator of Madeleines abduction cover his tracks.
What could they possibly divulge by way of defending themselves that would help a kidnapper?
Question on the cadaver dog-Eddie.
Can the dog sniff out a smell of a specific body such as Madeleine or is it just a deceased human based on the death process.
What if furniture was bought at a thrift store or from an estate sale--where someone else had died--not died in the apartment, but died on the matress or chair or whatever that waqs bought used and put in the apartment??
Just a thought. :eek: :eek: :eek: As I am looking at some of our antiques and handmedown furniture in our house at after 3 in the morning!!! I have the creeps:cool:
A cadaver dogs smells the gases that are coming out of a cadaver.
Other dogs can be trained to sniff out a live persons trail by using objects that smell like them.
What I can't believe is that none of these people carried cellphones that night. I mean, nobody goes anywhere these days without their cell. So why didn't she call Gerry or one of the others?
Keep in mind, every country is different in regards of cell usage... PDL being a small kind of getaway vacation place, cellphones of foreigners may be problematic when it comes to usage there (kind of like the Bahamas... when I was planning for a trip there, I was not happy that I couldn't use my cell, there). Now, I just looked up some things, and if they did have cells with them and had bought the right adapters and cards to use them while in Portugal, it is still a question of weather if PDL has the mass communication ability for cells... then she probably would have had to dial a long phone number to get to whomevers other cell she was calling. (You have to remember the country code and do a direct dial using the numbers, not something from the address book on the phone) In other words... it probably would have been faster to just run back to the Tapas bar.
That kind of goes along the same query I had as to why their website about Madeleine lacks in a good description of her... why their posters of her lack in the kind of descriptions you would find on the average missing person poster. It's claimed that they don't want to give out too much info in the description of her to aid people trying to set them up for money... or something to that effect.
They seem to go well out of their way to keep helpful info about her or the case at bay, as much as possible...
Thanks, Elphaba. I wondered about area codes and signals myself but didn't know how cellphones would work, what with the EU and all.
I came across a so-so explanation in the Mirror forums about why Kate might have said, "They've taken her," when she discovered Madeleine missing. Someone there suggested that she thought the resort complained about her crying again and called Child Services. But if so, they would have taken all the kids, not just Maddie.
Hi Calikid, the explanation that child services have taken her is just another cover up for the lies that are told imo. I think they are getting desperate as more people point the finger at the McCanns. If you tell one lie you have to keep on lying and lying to cover up the first lie, I think this is what is happening with the McCanns.
They do. And, one thing the Police have been able to do is arrest the scammers. That's the only arrests they've been able to make or people they've been able to find so far.
Earth to Gerry, it's been almost 4 months since you saw your oldest daughter. Tracks covered - CHECK. That happened in those first two hours before you called Police. Time for that chit to stop.
The reason Kate McCann believed immediately that someone had taken Madeleine was that her Cuddle Cat that she was sleeping with had been placed on a shelf too high for a child to reach.
Gerry McCann can not divulge information about why they believe Madeleine was abducted because it is against Portugese Law to reveal any details of the case.
Or could it have been the witness saying what she heard in Portugese because she couldnt speak English, so therefore it had to be translated. Boy this sure is confusing:confused: :confused:
Mrs. Fenn heard Madeleine cry (in English) Daddy, daddy. When it was translated into Portuguese for the newspaper, it read Papa which can have three meanings- Daddy, eat or to eat and Pope. Translating it back into English, the "I eat" was a mis-translation and should've been Daddy.
Hey Sleuthers, I found an interesting piece of information tonight. This: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article1836171.ece is an article about the last picture ever taken of Madeleine, which just happened to be at the pool on the afternoon on May 3. Now either the McCanns used the two-hour lunch siesta to play with the children, or they didn't go back to the creche that afternoon.
Every morning all of the kids were put into creche. Over lunchtime they would socialise by the pool with the other families. In the afternoons the kids would go back to creche, and then be picked up late afternoon by the families and fed dinner together. The children would be in bed by 8pm, then the parents would go for dinner.
OFF TOPIC....Just like to welcome another Aussie, Hi AussieSim and welcome to WS.:)
Well, thank goodness he managed to get in his aerobic exercise!!! That's the main thing I want to know when reading Gerry's blog - "but tell me this, how much exercise did you get today Gerry?"
You know, its not that its wrong necessarily for him to get in 25 minutes of exercise, but why is it so freakin' important as to include it in the blog which is supposed to be about Madeleine and why does he think anyone reading the blog cares about his exercise?
Yes, that was what I thought. If she knew of a 'They' why leave the risk leaving the children on their own?
...However, it still may be a mis-quote so I've still got an open mind on this point
