Perhaps the same 'other man' seen when CB was selling drugs at parties?

".....he always spoke English and hung around with a lookalike pal who she also thought was British, she added in the interview with Portuguese TV station TVI: 'I thought the other man was a brother or a friend.

'Both were tall and both were blond-haired.

'One had blue eyes and the other had green eyes. I thought both of them were English until I found out now one of them was German."

May have been his supplier?

World's hunt for Maddie revealed with 8,685 'sightings' across 101 countries

This is an older article from 2016 - but just look at all the possible sightings of this kid!! I hadn't realized there were so many, and so many that were investigated but ruled out! Even worse, several where the sighting couldn't be traced as police couldn't find the person in question!

Yes and remember the one where a woman with much darker skin was photographed carrying a little blonde child? It looked so like her, but they were finally tracked down, and actually the little girl wasnt similar close up

According to the press the German LE are 'blundering' now. Possibly tipped off the suspect 7 years ago! No wonder they have wanted to criticise other police forces, takes the heat off IMO!

This must be why they came out with the very risky appeal, with so little evidence. I think it really confirms there is no video or compelling evidence , he will have destroyed it.

''Blundering German police 'TOLD Madeleine McCann suspect he was going to be investigated' | Daily Mail Online

'A police blunder led to the German man suspected of murdering Madeleine McCann being informed he was being probed over the case as early as 2013, according to a Spiegel Online report Friday. ........

Spiegel reported that the federal criminal police (BKA) had contacted police in Brunswick for more information about the suspect after receiving a confidential tip-off in October 2013.

But while calling the suspect in, police in their letter specified that it had to do with the 'Madeleine McCann missing persons case' and 'personal examination of Christian B'.

The letter would have given Brueckner ample time to destroy any evidence, the report said, quoting experts who consider the police's actions to be a serious mistake.

'This should not have happened and in no way corresponds to the usual procedure in such a sensitive case,
' an experienced police officer was quoted as saying.

Police would usually gather information first before approaching a suspect, the report said.

Despite revealing last week that police had identified a suspect in the case, prosecutors have not called Brueckner in for questioning.

Such interrogation would take place only after an investigation is concluded so that investigators can put findings of the probe to the suspect, Brunswick prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told national news agency DPA. '

But if the second person was an employee of the resort it would be the perfect cover no one would think they were out of place if they were spotted around the resort, they almost might not even notice them, peole dont tend to take in every detail of their surroundings, even more so in such a relaxed atmosphere, an employee is the perfect accomplice.

If he were an employee would JJ not have known that? Recognised him as such?

So, did the locals not know who the friend was? Maybe he wasn't a local man.
i hope the police have taken (are taking) steps to find out. to rule him in or rule him out of this.
there is another tall, 'mask-wearing' german that has previously been mentioned.
can't find anything that says what colour his eyes were though.
or what he was doing/where he was between april 2004 and april 2011.

Like we've said all along - circumstantial ev only - and the last gasp from the German Police for more - CB will be looking for a substantial payout if this goes down the plug hole.
Possibly a 'wrongly' named suspect having his 'reputation' trashed through media looking for damages - it couldn't end any worse.

Agreed, I thought it was a very odd appeal right from the start. So many 'we believes' and 'I thinks'.
Now we can see why. They scuppered any chance of gathering compelling evidence if CB ever had it. Also Explains why Scotland Yard would not associate themselves fully with saying it was a 'murder' investigation.

That's true. If the second person was used as a look-out and standing around the apartment, he'd blend in better.

They couldn't completely eradicate all evidence though. They could get new evidence at any time.

it takes a certain kind of accomplice. the questions i would ask are:
- how well do you have to know someone, before asking them to be an accomplice in child abduction?
- would it help if you knew they already had an interest in child abduction?

Doubt he’d get a substantial payout. He must’ve upset some of his acquaintances anyway over the years. Someone somewhere will stop him getting a payout by providing some kind of provable info, even if it isn’t anything to do with MM.

Of course yes but time will tell. It's a long time ago and it's a cold case, so they've effectively destroyed the element of surprise in gathering evidence on him such as a video or photos in his possession. That only leaves reanalysing DNA ( which they should have done by now) and potential witnesses.

And their motive? Money, promise of video footage?

I'd think it would be based on the media attention that they decided to put on him through to essentially try and clean up their mistake. They did mess up, regardless of whether he is guilty or not.

Yes, and with a look-out to back it up... and maybe a dummy run the night before? IMO

I think CB and others who helped him from the resort were very familiar with the various apartments and which were the easiest ones to target, and the quickest routes out of the resort. I believe they had been carrying out robberies for sometime.

OK so now we have our theory (anyone come and smash it to pieces please!)
WHO was the 2nd person?

The police supposedly interviewed all the resort employees, they are all on the McCanns evidence website.

interesting. especially for the many people that have been saying they trusted the german police to solve this, and accusing the portuguese police of incompetence?

If they have a record of his phone call that night, I guess, unless he trashed his phone, there would be more phone records after?

If he wasn't too bothered about using his phone before he abducted her, why would he needed to have discarded it after? (not assuming that he did)

There's a show on netflix called cold case files. The first episode (the only one I watched tbh...)it's about a 12yo girl who was kidnapped, raped and murdered. A decade or so later they found out that two brothers (who had previously been investigated and ruled out) killed her but they couldn't have done it without the help of a third man who knew the girl, her routine, and helped the two guys kidnap her, was in the same house where they raped and killed her, gave them the drugs to keep her quiet, but did not participate in the act of raping and killing her. He helped simply for the "thrill" or something. Sometimes pedos just help each other.

It's probably an employee not paid that much, a junior member of staff, you can imagine that CB splits a percentage of any monies with him. For the leads the employee provides.
