No! :D The costs would come out of the £192k pot! Not that that's what the trip would cost! The £192K is the available funding there to cover whatever costs and expenses might come up related to the case over the coming year.

Yes - it looks like the on costs for one officer, and likely some admin and contingencies

The so called on costs or organisation cost of one employee is much higher than the persons salary.

Three according to the QaA.

Operation Grange’s Special Grant budget currently funds a team of three police officers and one member of police staff, all of whom operate on a part-time basis.

I see there is no phone now, only e-mail contact.

On 12 May 2011 the Met announced that, at the request of the Home Secretary, it had agreed to bring its particular expertise to the Madeleine McCann case.

The then Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, considered the request and took the decision that on balance it was the right thing to do. This was subject to funding being made available by the Home Office, as this case is beyond the Met’s jurisdiction.

Investigative review

The Met’s involvement, known as Operation Grange, is led by the Specialist Crime Command unit and involved, in the first instance, an ‘investigative review’. This was a review of all of the investigations that had been previously conducted into the circumstances of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.

Ongoing investigation

In July 2013 the status of the Met’s enquiries changed to that of an investigation, working with the Portuguese authorities to pursue specific lines of enquiry.

The Met continues to work with and support colleagues from law enforcement in Portugal and Germany.

The Home Office continues to fund Operation Grange.

On IPPEN.MEDIA-No request could be made to prosecutor Christian Wolters on this track, as well as on the current state of investigation in the Maddie case. However, the investigation would continue unchanged. However, a quick result in the missing case seems unlikely. Christian Wolters explains: „ I consider it impossible to complete the investigation into the Maddie case this year, also in view of the process that is still going on until autumn. “ And thus alludes to the process currently underway against B., which has since been extended to October.

Is he confessing to the killing in this email account? Can they see his deleted emails?

* Linked articles above*

Merging both articles, presuming they're correct, the first (Hotmail) email account and an 'external hard drive' relate to the MM 'Killing case' the officer couldn't discuss it further as it's related to 'another criminal case'. The Officer said that emails had been massively deleted in the inbox an there wasn't any in there from Jan 2007. (Telegraph)

The Mirror reports that the 2nd Hotmail account was opened in January 2007.

I'd imagine deleted emails can be retrieved, yes.

Taking into consideration what HCW had declared in the early days, about being sure CB was MM's murderer, perhaps CB had made some sort of confession so I can understand the huge amount of resources they've thrown at the case since.

Paywalled but interesting from JC - LE secured data from Meta and Microsoft in 2019, believe the emails were deleted soon after an investigation into him over MM began in 2013.

it appears that some of this may or may not be true

that part yes

Yes. And it was denied in court. <modsnip - requires a link>

People can believe what they want to believe but this was false reporting. At no time and place did anyone claim in court that the email account linked CB to MM, only that it formed part of the BKA's investigation into CB in relation to MM.

I'm sure we can all agree that there's a huge and very irresponsible difference between the two.

If i gather all the informations : they are 100% sure it’s CB , that madeleine is dead, how she died, it was in Portugal, shortly after her disappearance. They just don’t have the body. I’m pretty sure they found something on emails &/or hard drive

It's paywalled.

In brief, it says the policeman witness only stated that e-mails and hard drive had been evaluated with a view to both investigations, no mention whatsoever of a 'murder' email account, no mention whatsoever of MM, and that CB's lawyers have effected a cease and desist order on a brit newsgroup for false reporting.
