Trying [unsuccessfully] to find a direct link to a story, but a UK news ticker says that VN Express is reporting that "a commercial plane from out of Hong Kong has reported seeing several large pieces of debris 60km southeast of Vung Tau, a coastal city in Vietnam." If anyone can find a direct link to the original story, please post it!

BREAKING [7:04pm]: According to VN Express, a commercial plane from out of Hong Kong has reported seeing several large pieces of debris 60km southeast of Vung Tau, a coastal city in Vietnam.

Yes I agree re the phones: how the hell could they have been ringing if they were under the sea???? I don't think that is possible....you'd get a message saying "this phone could not be connected or out of range or similar" not ringing!

Bizarre as well......thinking aloud here, but what if the plane was hijacked and taken somewhere.......am supposing that is not an option as surely someone would have tried to get a message out on some form of tech device............but if hijacked would it be easy to stop ALL forms of tracking it?

Disregard the hijacking scenario above, now that I have read they have seen large pieces of debris.......think they may have found it.....

People with stolen passports may not have had any terror links, says travel agent

In a detailed analysis of the antecedents of the two passengers who boarded the ill fated MH70 with stolen passports, the Financial Times found that the duo may have been aiming to illegally emigrate to Europe and may have been on the Malaysia Airlines flight by a quirk of ticketing.

The report quoted Benjaporn Krutnait, the travel agent who had booked the two tickets as saying that an Iranian contact, 'Mr Ali' had asked for the tickets to be booked on the cheapest route possible. She had attempted to book the duo on two other airlines initially.

But the tickets expired when Ms Benjaporn did not hear back from Mr Ali. When he contacted her again on Thursday, she rebooked the men on the Malaysia Airlines flight through Beijing because it was the cheapest available. Ms Benjaporn booked the tickets through China Southern Airlines via a code share arrangement.

She said that she had been booking tickets for the Iranian contact for almost three years on an average of once a month and there was no evidence to suggest 'Mr Ali' knew they had stolen passports.

Pretty sure this article is inaccurate and intentionally misrepresenting the story to increase sales/hits, but here it is anyways...

Terrorism fears grow as Malaysia Airlines missing 777 plane wreckage found

Teams hunting for the Malaysia Airlines aircraft spotted what they believe to be a door and tail in the sea off Vietnam.

Officials said it was too dark to be certain the objects were from the Boeing aircraft that was carrying 239 people.

A source from the National Committee for Search and Rescue said: “As it is night they cannot fish them out for proper identification.

“They have located the position of the areas and flown back to the land.”

So was it some kind of sudden, major catastrophic failure that brought down this plane?

Been on some other sites w/aviation grus. One current thought that's been discussed before - rapid decompression, i.e. think Payne Stewart crash - seems to be picking up some steam. However, like other theories, why not on radar?

However, (again), a Chinese plane now thinks it has spotted debris. Hong Kong CAA informed Vietnam that a pilot on a Hong Kong's commercial flight reported having seen debris floating about 500km from the current SAR area.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean "you" as any particular poster on this site. I should have used "one" instead. The "you" was supposed to mean anyone.

For the northerners, "you guys" - for the southerners, "y'all" :giggle:

The family member of one of the Chinese passengers on-board the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 successfully got through his mobile phone number. Unfortunately, nobody answered the phone. The man claims that he called up on the number thrice. Thereafter, the relatives of the missing passenger asked Malaysian Airlines to track the location using satellite technologies before the phone's battery dies.

The video clip of a man dialing the number of his elder brother was also broadcasted on a television channel. The call was connected but no one answered the phone.

Mr Ali didn't know he had a stolen passport ? Did I read that right?

don't think Mr Ali had a stolen passport it didn't say that, it said he was accustomed to booking for others and claims he didn't know the people he had booked had stolen passports, I think

The Uighurs...

Seen some say it can't be terrorism because no-one has claimed it... no-one has claimed 9/11 either. No-one claimed Lockerbie for over 20 years.

Missing Malaysian jet lost in 'unprecedented mystery'

KUALA LUMPUR/PHU QUOC ISLAND, Vietnam—
The disappearance of a Malaysian jetliner is an "unprecedented aviation mystery", a senior official said on Monday, with a massive air and sea search now in its third day failing to find any confirmed trace of the plane or the 239 people aboard.

The head of Malaysia's Civil Aviation Authority, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, said a hijacking attempt could not be ruled out as investigators explore all theories for the loss of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 en route to Beijing.

"Unfortunately we have not found anything that appears to be objects from the aircraft, let alone the aircraft," he told a news conference.

"As far as we are concerned, we have to find the aircraft, we have to find a piece of the aircraft if possible."

:ufo: :abduction: This is just crazy. How did this plane just disappear? :waitasec:

Whaaat? On the Today Show, they just had a clip of the brother of Philip Wood (a passenger) saying that he had a "goodbye" dinner with his brother recently. :waitasec: I'll try to find the clip.

This could prove to be a bit embarrassing...

http://my.news.yahoo.com/identity-one-passengers-stolen-passport-confirmed-says-igp-102952114.html

Luigi Maraldi, the real passport holder, was brought to a police press conference in Phuket, where he is on holiday, yesterday, telling how he reported his passport stolen on August 1 last year while on a previous holiday to Thailand.

The passport went missing after he deposited it to rent a vehicle at a business in Patong, the red light tourist area on Phuket where hundreds of passports are lost or stolen every year.

In Thailand, passport forgery and theft is a huge underground business. – March 10, 2014.

If the two stolen passport holders were trying to reach their destination in Europe for illegal immigration purposes they would have told someone of their intentions, they would have contacts waiting for them somewhere to help them settle in. You would think someone would come forward, unless they're afraid that some illegal ring will be discovered...
