Would someone on board the flight go so far as to hold the plane and passengers (most of whom were Chinese) for ransom, being the release of Ibrahim?

To release Anwar Ibrahim you would have to go through a court appeal process since his sentences was already handed down a day before the plane went missing.

Which if not mistaken is at the Federal court. My basic knowledge on this indicate this is the final option for appeal, failing which he will be imprison. But these court process would take ages I think in country like Malaysia.

BBM. What??? Why would he resign? Reminds me of U.S politicians who resign for no apparent reason, then a couple of days later we find out they committed a crime or did something scandalous. Hmmmm.

Snipped by me for space.

Someone above said this image was too small to be the missing plane. So, doubting Thomas here wants to know why would ANY plane be parked in the woods? How did it get here, just landed straight down, no tree tops crushed?

Was it connected with the people responsible for the disappearing plane - maybe their get away plane?

Something curious about a plane in the woods!

BBM
exactly
It could be a plane in flight though, right? i don't know anymore..I have been following a few of the images on tomnod..

They wouldn't - I meant to depressurize the cabin. And I was thinking about the transponder - I got confused because I think the poster meant the transponder - the black box wasn't turned off.

Gotcha! I agree about the transponder being confused with the black box, but the article the poster linked actually referred to the black box too. I believe the article was wrong, big surprise.

any word on when the next scheduled press conference is set?

With the latest reports and theories being broadcast today, it doesn't seem likely (at this point) they were anything but passengers, albeit illegally on board, at this time. I am also taking into consideration the reports of stolen passports being more the norm than an exception in some areas of the world. CNN also had a piece today on the black market for stolen passports, and how they can be reconfigured by some professionals in that field, or simply sold to someone bearing a likeness to the actual person.

MOO

Agree. Thailand is reportedly the 'stolen passport' capital of the world, so in that part of the world, it may be par for the course for 1 or 2 passengers to have illegal documentation. From all that's been reported I have no inclination to believe anything other than the fact that they used stolen passports...but not because they are terrorists. Their stories (at least the one about the teen seeking asylum) have been pretty thoroughly covered as well as investigated, and are believable. JMO

Well I won't be staying up until 3am for this one..
I will wait until I check back in here tomorrow morning
I have to go to the airport soon to pick someone up...Yes..I have been tracking the flight:blushing:

Whereabouts are those coordinates located? Thanks

Intermezzo, sometimes you have to click on the very center tile to get it to pull up (with the links to Tomnod).

I will try again- http://www.tomnod.com/nod/challenge/malaysiaairsar2014/map/654342

to me it just looks like an aerial shot of the plane flying above the trees

The cigarette smoking has not been brought up lately.

What do you guys think? I'm sure we can rule out mechanical and pilot error, or can we?

The cigarette smoking incident involved the younger co-pilot and a different pilot. I just don't think this pilot allowed that type of nonsense in his cockpit.

Also, I think it is pretty much agreed on by everyone that the plane was hijacked and flown on for hours, and not mechanical or pilot error, right?

A lot of drug smuggling goes on in Thailand, right? How do smugglers get past security, unless they are in cahoots with the screeners, which I know sometimes happens? But people are able to smuggle drugs in the U.S. too. It would actually seem easy to bring some chemical aboard an airline that could incapacitate people - kind of surprised it hasn't happened already. It seems like a stretch, but I suppose it's a possibility.

I think so, am I crazy?

ETA: Don't answer that, it's rhetorical! Lol

Ok, so if the plane is the primary interest and it has landed safely somewhere, what can they do with it since Rolls will know if that engine starts back up again.... Right? Nor no?

BBM~ good point.

Also, did not Vietnam ask another pilot from another flight to contact MH370, when it did not contact Vietnam control?

Did he? What was the result? Was this the "mumbling" sound he got? And if so, why was this not addressed ASAP?

The whole Vietnam communications story is strange imo. We've never really heard from them. Could the story be a coverup if possibly the ATC in Vietnam had shut down for the night? I'm so curious about this because of a comment (not sure of the source) about radar being too expensive to keep on all the time.

The same flight route took place three times every week. The pilots would know if the Vietnam handoff was out of business at that time in the morning. Maybe officials don't want that information known due to being viewed as letting the ball drop.

Why would another pilot be able to connect to the flight if the ATC of Vietnam were unable to do so? Especially if they were able to connect verbally but then not care that they were unable to understand the communication.
Can anybody explain how or why this possibility makes sense? No one on the news is talking about this alleged communication.

Apparently the next scheduled presser is 1730 local time (0530 EST)

BBM  Were they aware of what was going on while they were in the air?

I hear you, I could be tranq darted elephant style and I'd still never be able to sleep on a plane. I just put on my headphones and get lost in my "flying" music and a few wine-a-roos.

Ditto. I can't sleep on a plane, or even a car. Nope. I gotta see what's going on.
