Police Plan to Investigate Letter Claiming Sighting of Missing Stacy Peterson If They Get It

" Illinois State Police plan to investigate an anonymous letter claiming a sighting of missing Stacy Peterson in Kentucky if the original copy is turned over to investigators, FOX News learned Tuesday."

"Sgt. Luis Gutierrez, a spokesman for Illinois State Police, told FOXNews.com that if presented with the letter, investigators would treat it like any other lead. The investigation includes nearly 900 leads, Gutierrez added."

Kentucky cops say they have no record of Peterson sighting

"The anonymous writer who claimed to have spotted Stacy Peterson in a Kentucky mall parking lot also claimed to have reported the incident to local authorities.

In a release, Boone County Sheriff’s Office (Ky.) spokesman Tom Scheben said the department had no record of any report regarding the Peterson case.

He said the department does not usually patrol the mall area but one deputy was in the mall that day to open a locked car. The deputy said he had not been approached by anybody about the Peterson case."

The Amazing Kreskin wants to move fast on Peterson case

"The Amazing Kreskin, a well-known mentalist, wants to meet with those close to the investigation of Stacy Peterson’s disappearance.

In particular, Kreskin would like to talk one-on-one with Drew Peterson and one of Peterson’s family members who said he believes he may have helped dispose of Stacy Peterson’s body."

"So far, Illinois State Police have said they will not work with Kreskin.

Drew Peterson’s lawyer Joel Brodsky said he’s never been involved in a case that has used alternative investigative methods such as mentalists or psychics but is curious to see what kind of help Kreskin might be able to provide.

“I’m more than happy to talk to him,” Brodsky said. “We welcome anything that would put an end to this.”

As for Drew Peterson, Brodsky said the only way his client could talk to Kreskin is with legal counsel present."
 
CHICAGO -- Although the case isn't getting as much attention as in past weeks, officials of the Illinois State Police say a team of agents continues to investigate the disappearance of Stacy Peterson.

Trooper Mark Dorencz said Wednesday that at any given time, between 70 and 80 agents are assigned to the investigation. He says nearly 1,300 tips have been received, from which about 500 leads have been generated.

Case follows Peterson

BOLINGBROOK -- Even in the happiest place on Earth, Drew Peterson can't escape public scrutiny.

Peterson, the embattled ex-cop whose fourth wife has been missing for more than two months, drove his younger four children to Orlando to spend a week at Disney World. He says they enjoyed the Magic Kingdom, despite unwanted attention and disapproving looks.

"The problem is, I got more stares and dirty looks," Peterson said. "One guy called me Scott Peterson."

And Drew Peterson liked it that way.

"It's a great break -- it's almost like I can live a normal life," said a relaxed looking Peterson, sitting in a burgundy leather chair behind a wooden desk in his home office one morning last week.

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. -- A former police officer named a suspect in his wife's disappearance says he's hired a publicist and isn't talking about his days on the force because he could soon be getting paid to tell his story.

Drew Peterson has frequently talked to the media since his wife, Stacy, disappeared Oct. 28 but said during an interview published Monday in the Chicago Sun-Times that his many years as an officer and sergeant in this Chicago suburb are off limits.

BOLINGBROOK -- Drew Peterson's next-door neighbor took exception to the embattled ex-cop's assessment that his life has returned to normal despite his wife having gone missing more than two months ago.

"Things are not normal. Normal is not children going through Christmas without their mother," said the neighbor, Sharon Bychowski.

"And normal people don't get publicists," Bychowski added.

Asked about the scarcity of media personnel outside his home last week, Peterson said, "It's a great break -- it's almost like I can live a normal life."

Drew Peterson's attorney said Wednesday that a racy message sent to Stacy Peterson's cell phone in September shows she was having an affair and lends credence to the theory that the missing woman left her husband for another man.

The cell phone—which attorney Joel Brodsky said Stacy replaced and gave to her teenage stepson shortly before she vanished Oct. 28—allegedly contained the text message sent from the Sprint Nextel Web site at 9:47 a.m. Sept. 20.

In the steamy, two-sentence message, the anonymous author referred to Stacy as "my love" and thanked her for their wild physical activity the previous evening, according to a transcript provided to the Tribune by Brodsky.

Former Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson remains the prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife Stacy, based on newly gathered information, Illinois State Police officials said Friday.

"We are focusing our resources in another direction that is reinforcing the theory that Mr. Peterson is a suspect," Sgt. Thomas Burek said. "The focus has stayed the same. Mr Peterson is the prime suspect, and we've learned new information that has supported that."

BOLINGBROOK -- Sunday marks the 24th birthday of Stacy Peterson, and Illinois State Police are vowing to continue the hunt for the southwest suburban woman missing since Oct. 28, 2007.

According to a release from ISP Sgt. Thomas Burek, the disappearance of the mother of two “will continue to be the major investigative focus” of the ISP Investigative Task Force.

The Task Force has recently taken a revised view of the investigation and begun to utilize additional investigative resources, according to the release. The ISP vows to continue the investigation until the matter is resolved, the release said.
