MISSING: Search ongoing for 20-year-old UI Student

UPDATE - Police have sent searchers home for the day with no sign of missing 20 year-old Mollie Tibbetts.

UPDATE - At least 100 people are out looking for a missing 20 year-old woman in Poweshiek County.

Investigators now say Mollie Tibbetts was last seen dog sitting for at a friend's house late Wednesday night. When no one heard from her Thursday, they reported her missing.

Crews are out searching around the Brooklyn area for any sign of Tibbetts, At this point, investigators aren't sure if foul play is involved.

Brooklyn-based TIP Rural Electric Cooperative announced it will offer a $1,000 standing reward. That's in addition to the Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa's $1,000 standing reward that leads to finding Tibbetts or an arrest or conviction in the case.

That information will then be relayed to the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation.

Community may hold clue to find missing Iowa student, father says

Speaking in an interview with “Good Morning America,” Rob Tibbetts said he believes the public may hold the key to finding his daughter, Mollie Tibbetts, who disappeared on July 18 after going out for an evening jog.

“What we need is for people to tell their friends and neighbors that if they saw anything that seemed even remotely out of the ordinary to call the authorities and they will run that down,” Tibbetts said. “The authorities have told us again and again and again that all the similar cases like this are always solved by some tip.”
 
Missing student's father gives desperate plea to public

It was originally believed she disappeared while out on a run, but Tibbetts' brother Jake told KCCI that authorities now believe Tibbetts returned from the run and was doing homework on her computer as late as 10 p.m.

Authorities have emphasized that the case remains a rescue mission and not a recovery mission. They are investigating the hundreds of tips they receive every day, as well as Tibbetts' cell phone and Fitbit data, in hopes of finding clues.

The hundreds of interviews are related to tips investigators have received, said Richard Rahn, the special agent in charge with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation for the Major Crime Unit.

Investigators are continuing to evaluate data, going over the leads list, and having agents in the field to locate Tibbetts. Data includes social media and information from a Fitbit that Tibbetts is known to have.
