What's the "road kill" comment?

Meet Franz Brueger

Vietnam will never go away for me. Vietnam is a daily thought and will be what I think about when I take my last breath. I can’t look at road kill because of Vietnam. I see dead people. I belong to a Vietnam support group where we talk about these things. There are many veterans who don’t know there is a lot of good help out there. All they need to do is contact a VA hospital or veterans center.

[This does not sound like a man who hated his daughter.... remembering Playmobiles, the dollhouse he made with tiny furniture and fridge with a light, carving pumpkins together, the trip to Germany: ]

What is your fondest memory of your daughter?

I took her on an extended weekend, four days, to Germany when she was about 12. We went to the Playmobil factory. She had a lot of Playmobils. I also built her a dollhouse. It is very detailed, even the refrigerator light comes on when you open it. I made all the furniture. Pumpkin carving is another fond memory. She liked to reach in and get the guts out

He also remembers to reach out to his fellow Vietnam vets who might need help. IMHO this is positive. Support is so important.
This man knows that and he has found support for himself. This is not a person who keeps the tension all inside until it explodes. #RESPECT

Allegedly, the mother complained about her husband to Ally's ex-boyfriend. Well, this is what women will do. Talk things through with their friends or neighbours. Let off steam. And then return and take up life again. The choice of the ex BF as an alleged confidante was perhaps an odd one. Could be. People who grieve, do odd things. People who grieve can be very brave too and IMHO Ally's mother is among them.

Those memories were twenty years ago. What about more recently? I remember he commented he never realised how good her writings were. Did she have a blog or publish them?

I don't believe we have ever been given any specific thing he may have lied sbout. From that same article:

Police had grown suspicious of Wes Sutherland from the first time they interviewed him, believing he was lying and withholding information.
"We know that sometimes he's not absolutely truthful, but maybe he's not absolutely truthful with everybody, not just us," said Lt. Shaw
.
CWD interview: Who killed Ally Brueger? Michigan nurse gunned down while jogging on rural dirt road

Thank you .

Perhaps just as surprising as Sutherland's accusation against Ally's parents is the reaction of the police to it.
"We have not ruled out anyone. Including mom and dad," said Lt. Shaw.
Nor Wes Sutherland.
"He's not been ruled out," said Shaw.

Police also say that failing a polygraph test doesn't mean Wes Sutherland had anything to do with Ally Brueger's murder.
"It wouldn't be fair for us to say that just because he lied to us, you know, that he's a killer," said Lt. Shaw. "People lie to us all the time. Does that make you a murderer? It doesn't."

[...]

We've received a query on whether or not Alexandra's parents are victims. Thank you for asking.

Alexandra's parents are certainly victims by WS standards. There are no officially announced POIs or suspects. You may discuss respectfully what has been contained in MSM about her parents or what they may have said in MSM. You may not sleuth them or make accusations against them. A VI is allowed to make statements without those statements being substantiated by or linked to MSM. You may ask the VI respectful questions about any assertions they may make, but if those assertions or statements are accusations against the parents, you may not engage in making accusations or negative insinuations yourself.

I'm going to tag @Tricia on this post and she may review this and think differently than what I've laid out above, in which case Tricia's word trumps mine and one of us will let you know.

Which memories are you referring to as being from 20 years ago? The article quoted was from May 2017.

I was thinking about Ally saying she was afraid to leave Nikki alone with Franz. It is possible she worried her mom would be lonely if Franz was not much of a talker and she wasn't there for daily chats. She may not have been referring to safety issues at all. Sometimes our kids worry about things they don't understand, but work for their parents. I have a DH who is not much of a talker and it took several years for us to adjust to our different styles. I had to learn to not depend on him for my "entertainment'' and he had to learn to spend more time together, even if just reading, watching a movie, sitting outside watching wildlife together. We have settled into a comfortable, peaceful routine that maybe others would think odd. But it works. I suspect Franz and Nikki may be similar.

The memories FB held of when AB was 12 are the 20 year old ones.

Thanks, and you are right. However, he also seems regretful that he did not pay enough attention to her or her writings. Whatever she wrote about, it may not have been something he was particularly interested in. I don't find that too unusual. Poetery, general musings may not have interested him, for example. Have we seen any indication of what type of writing she was interested in? I've only seen "creative writing" ... what would that mean?

I have asked this in an earlier post in case CM2121, who was with her for three years, may know more or point us to a blog or some publications.
