Has anyone considered human trafficking? I know that is a stretch, but it has been a problem in Michigan lately. One mother reported recently that someone tried to take her teenage daughter right out of the passenger side of the car while she was pumping gas. DS doesn't really fit the profile of a typical person picked up by human traffickers, but she looked younger than her age imo.

With her being seen in her vehicle leaving work, then her vehicle being found at home after people noticed her missing, leads me to believe someone may have been close to her. Either lying in wait for her at home or accompanying her, where nothing would look abnormal.
Leaving the wallet and personal items locked in the car, just makes all of this seem like a normal routine. I think something happend near her apt complex. By the sound of her parents stating this type of behavior is out of character for her, leads me to believe someone(s) abducted her very quickly, or she wanted it to look this way for reasons she has kept secret. Either way I hope she makes it home safe.

I am very good friends with the missing girls cousin and I live in Houston, TX. Grew up in that area, so actually don't think it is strange at all. When you move out of your hometown, seeing a story that hits home, especially being acquainted with the same people, I would probably want to talk about it too.

I really hope this person got his name. The convo seems really weird...like why do you go from discussing sports to bringing up some girl from Detroit who is missing with bartender in a totally different state, a time zone away? Am I the only one who is weirded out by this?

No, I didn't...but the bartender might know... I mentioned that Detroit was a dangerous city. He told me that most people didn't live in the city. He went on to say that it was like a doughnut. The middle was where all the low class lived, and the rest lived away from the center, and she didn't live downtown. He also mentioned being in Boston, Grosse Point? and that was where all the snob elitist lived.

Michigan expats are everywhere; a product of the various downturns in the auto industry. The last big diasporas of Michiganders happening in the early 2000's (after 9/11 and the accompanying economic downturn) and then again when the sub-prime/banking crisis tanked the economy after 2008.

Boston might be Boston-Edison district---several blocks of insanely huge houses that are just north of "mid-town" Detroit; but were originally actually outside the original city limits of Detroit city--Grand Blvd being the original city line.

At some point, they extended the city limits of Detroit out to 8 mile, assuming jurisdiction over Boston-Edison and a lot of other neighborhoods. Tho Highland Park and Hamtramck held out; and so are actually wholly independent cities completely surrounded by Detroit.

Grosse Pointe is on the far east side of Detroit, along the lake. Typically older money and established familes. Bob Bashara, the guy with the sex dungeon in a bar who hired a guy to kill his wife, is from the Grosse Pointe area.

There have always been pockets of middle class and even wealthier hoods inside Detroit. Indian Village, Palmer Woods, etc.

Recently, the rejuvenation of downtown Detroit (Quicken moving downtown, new hockey arena, new light rail, new casinos, etc) has led a lot of folks to move back into downtown and the immediate surrounding areas. However, the vast majority of Detroit is a poorly maintained wasteland, fo sho. It's really a huge area with not enough people per block to justify maintaining city services and public utilities throughout.

Detroit's definitely making a comeback; google new restaurants in Detroit for evidence of that. Getting rid of Kwame and electing a businessman from the suburbs as mayor seems to have helped. But, so far, the comeback is limited to the downtown and downtown adjacent areas.

That was my first post ever on this site so if I am just going to be laughed at for giving insight just like everyone else I will go back into the woodwork and just read these posts and not give my input. Thanks for the warm welcome Sprockett77.

Yeah... I read this site frequently but this part has encouraged me to sign up to comment. I went to high school with her, too. For anyone who isn't familiar with the area, we are from a very small town. We all know each other here. I even know her younger siblings who are 5-ish years younger than me. Everyone I know from growing up has shared this story on social media and it's hit several of my friends pretty hard. This doesn't happen to people who have ties to the area where we grew up too often. It's kind of crazy. The only other missing person case I am familiar with with any real links to our 3 stoplight town is Paige Renkowski's disappearance...

Of course, reporting the comment to the authorities wouldn't hurt -- better to be safe than sorry -- but still, I don't think it's a far stretch to think he was just upset about it. Hell, I think I even mentioned it to a few of my friend in LA myself!

Also, a few pages back, people were discussing the dirt on her car. I'm pretty sure she still knows people who live out near where we grew up... so that's probably a nonissue.

Oh! And being a woman of the same age and having grown up in the same rural area only to move to the city... I can promise you guys, I would never leave my purse sitting in my car in the suburbs of Detroit. Farmington Hills is a nice area but ehhh... absolutely wouldn't do it unless there was nothing of value in it. That part seems kinda weird to me.

Hopefully they find her soon. :(

Perhaps because I've seen a number of "single woman living in large apt complex attacked/abducted" cases, I mentioned earlier that I feel she's been abducted by someone from the apt complex.... If she's been living there for some time, then I'd be checking those who recently moved into the complex.... If she's newly moved in, then could be an rso (or one who's not registered) who lives in the complex...
ETA: Good point about maintenance workers having keys .... they would be about and could take notice too of one's habits and daily routine ...

This complex in particular has lots of crime and/or weird things that go on there. Within the past 2 weeks a man was found dead in the parking area in his underwear - I didn't see the update after the autopsy, I assumed he had a heart attack or something but it could have been at another person's hand. Let me go find the article.

ETA: My error, this man was found in Muirwood (same general area) and they're ruling it an accident.

According to news reports, DS graduated from a high school about 5 miles from where she currently lives. In the Detroit bordering inner-ring mixed demographic burb of Redford, Redford Union High School.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - West Bloomfield police say they are investigating after the discovery of possible human remains in a burned out car.

Firefighters were called to the rear parking lot of Pine Lake School on West Long Lake Road at 1:25 a.m. on a report of a car on fire.

ETA - W. Bloomfield police say the car was fully engulfed when they arrived, determined human remains. They have contacted Farmington Hills PD but do not believe this is related.

ETA: 6 am EST - now saying remains could be female, fully clothed.

Stay with us... We don't always agree but the Sleuther's are the best bunch of people. You'll see :)

Oh and...

:welcome:

Okay... so their not releasing what is found on surveillance? Does that still stand? That seems as if they found something on there doesn't it. What are they hiding. This makes it very hard to sleuth as what is on that surveillance and what time she was on it etc answers a lot of questions. We're just guessing here with around about times.

MetLife have now offered $50K too... Reward is now up to $120,000!

So happy to have you join us on WS Mittenstate! Your local context is appreciated. It's great to see a number of new (and old) Michigonians (?) contributing to this thread.

I know at most complexes ( and work parking lots for that matter ) people claim " their " parking place, and there is kind of an unwritten rule that you dont take someone else' space. I assume since it was stated that her car was close by her building that this was the case. If her car was parked in 'her' usual space, I think we can assume she was the one who parked it there. I know some upthread surmised that she was abducted elsewhere and her car was brought back to her complex ( using her drivers license for the address) Seems like a heck of a lot of work and risk to the perp- most would have just abandoned it somewhere.

I have never ever forgotten Paige Renkowski- to this very day I hold out hope they will find her body --

hoping and praying they find Danielle alive and well.

one day my husband and I were driving on the Lodge North and had to take an exit we did not want to take due to
traffic issues. We wound up on Hamilton near six mile Road. OMG-- I thought i was in some town in the middle east. no signs of life. burned out buildings block after block; no businesses: it was horrible. looks like a war zone. When they talk about Detroit making a come back I just shake my head. As you pointed out, it is getting better in the downtown area and areas like Greektown are nice. but anywhere else, you might as well be in Beirut.
