Wayne State University warned Perry Funeral Home about improper storage of human remains


Wayne State University officials advised Perry Funeral Home staff to refrain from piling multiple dead bodies in cooler drawers meant for only one cadaver, and to properly log remains as they entered and left the school's Mortuary Science morgue.

Detroit police had already initiated an investigation into Cantrell Funeral Home after 10 fetuses and one infant's remains were found hidden in a ceiling compartment during an Oct. 12 raid.
 
Police remove 26 fetuses from Detroit Medical Center

Detroit — In the latest twist to a wide-ranging investigation into funeral homes' disposition of infant and fetal remains, a police task force Monday removed 26 fetuses from a Detroit Medical Center morgue, all of which were allegedly mishandled by Perry Funeral Home.

Members of the Detroit police homicide task force executed a search warrant Monday at Detroit Receiving Hospital, where the DMC's morgue is located, Detroit police Chief James Craig said.

"This is a continuation into our criminal investigation into Perry Funeral Home," Craig said. "We removed 26 fetuses from the DMC."...
 
Detroit police remove remains from west-side funeral home

Detroit police homicide detectives on Wednesday removed several boxes of cremated remains from a long-abandoned funeral home on the city's west side, police said.

"We executed a search warrant ... and removed cremated remains," Detroit police Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood said.

The removal of the remains from the former Howell and Ramsey Funeral Home at 15050 Dexter is the latest action in a multipronged investigation into the alleged mishandling of remains at Metro Detroit funeral homes...
