The Secret Service is now involved? I don't recall ever hearing about the Secret Service getting involved in any type of criminal investigation before. It's always the FBI. Either that's the secret part or there is something we don't know about.

Maybe her abduction isn't sexually motivated at all. It could be one of those bad guys she knew about came and got her before she could testify. The details about that aren't clear to me but it's possible I guess.

If it's true, now they're in deeper trouble and if caught, here's a case where I think whoever should fry. That is, if they harmed J in any way.

Yes, I agree. Going north to the wilderness seems like a better stretch. I was just pointing out you could avoid tolls. I feel north is where he went. Not even as far as the U.P. It gets very unpopulated quickly up towards Manistee.

I think anyway..

Folks have pointed out that the perp took an incredible risk in abducting JH when he did. Amost as though it was either "now or never" or maybe "now, or not for another week or month"....

Seems like a local perp wouldn't feel that time pressure to take such a risk in that situation. He could bide his time and wait and watch and make his move in a situation where there isn't a high probability of a random car driving up and catching him in the act. Even maybe grab her in less public location.

If this is an out of area perp who traveled a few hours+ to get there, and is planning on a weekend at a remote cabin in the woods with JH, then 11 pm probably represented a fail-safe point where either he had to do it or go back home or continue on to his cabin in the woods by himself.

Or potentially it's an out of area person who is in the area for whatever reason during the week and is headed back home Friday night and has to do it then or wait another week or more.

Course, could also be a local person for whom maybe the stars aligned at that moment and he took his shot. Just seems like a very huge risk that a local person would very easily be able to talk himself out of not taking, go back home and play some x-box and try again the next time JH works there.

If the suspect wanted to head North, why didn't they just get on US 31 North? It is right next to the Exxon station. Although they were heading North on Grand Haven Rd, it actually dead ends. If they continued North on Grand Haven Rd past Airport Rd, they would have two options. Head East on I-96 E (would have a few options from there) or head West on Seaway Drive. Heading West on Seaway Dr would take them into a more populated area. US 31 N would be the route to take if they wanted to leave the area and head North.

Muskegon. That's north, correct? The focus is moving south. I wonder why?
It could be likely he took her at 11 because highways are more populated with truckers and people going out. These people are likely to be focused on jobs/plans. Truckers are in a hurry most of the time to make money. People going out are dancing in the car, talking texting.

I am just bouncing ideas but it fits the theory of south. His exit is crazy, scary. I believe he didn't secure her at the scene, went somewhere remote, and took the highway that route.

There must be a reason they're not conducting active ground searches everyday.

I remember a case a winter or two ago, New Years Eve, I believe. A woman was driving the few miles home, hit a tree and got out of her car to try to walk home. It was minus degrees below zero. They began searching the next day and it still took several days for them to find her laying out in a farm field not too far from where she had wrecked. Weird. At least they were looking though.
That happened near Streator, IL. Husband died in crash and the wife walked 3/4 mile and died in field. Was cold out both intoxicated if I recall

Did anyone else look at this particular Exxon station's hours of operation before? If so, didn't it indicate that the station closed at 11:00 pm Mon-Thurs and 11:30 pm on Fri and Sat? I thought so. I just looked at the hours again and it is listing 11:30 pm Mon-Fri. Either I am wrong or they updated their hours. If I am wrong, this post is definitely meaningless. If they changed their hours, it may or may not be significant and this post may still be meaningless.

I wonder whose cell phone data they are checking.

I would guess all numbers that pinged towers near the Exxon station around the time of the abduction?

Cell phone data, I love it!

Combine that with the ccard transaction history cross-referenced with DMV records and this is a case that chess playing computer could solve in the time it takes to move a pawn to e4.

This has to be FBI folks doing this. They are great at analyzing financial transaction and property records for patterns, throw in cell phone pings targeted in terms of time and location and they'll have someone in cuffs in no time....hopefully.

Surprised they gave out the tid-bit about cell phone pings. Maybe they have a POI they like and want to see if he reacts to this new piece of info. It's almost like they are saying "we got your cell phone pinging near the location....your move."

Summer hours? Resort community makes sense.

They close later during the week and I think it's because some of the shops end 2nd shift at 11, so they want that business from 11 until 11:30 during the week.

Can no longer think straight. Hoping tomorrow brings progress/news.
He'd have to secure her in some way or at least have a weapon. Maybe he's still holding her? We sure could use a happy ending around here but mostly for her and her son's sake. That sucks so bad. And does the person who did this know she has a young son? Enjoy h e two sticks.

The city of Muskegon is right next to Norton Shores but there is also Muskegon Township and East Muskegon, the city of Muskegon Heights, all kind of wrapping around each other I guess. Actually, the city of Muskegon and the city of Norton Shores are both located in the county of Muskegon. If you live 15 miles or more away and you are heading to Norton Shores for whatever reason, almost nobody would say they were going to Norton Shores. It's all just Muskegon to anyone who doesn't actually live in Muskegon county.

I forget where I was going with this, but hopefully that helps you get a little better picture of the area.

Exactly. Was that the case of the couple in illinois, the husband was driving and she had on a red formal dress? He was deceased in the car but she got out and had wandered into a farmers field. Please forgive me I forget their names at the moment.

This article has a few points of interest regarding the Secret Service involvement.

http://www.secretservice.gov/forensics.shtml

Forensic examiners analyze questioned documents, fingerprints, false identification documents, credit cards and other related forensic science areas. Examiners also are responsible for coordinating photographic and graphic production, as well as video, audio and image enhancement services. Much of the technology and techniques utilized by examiners is exclusive to the U.S. Secret Service.

The Secret Service is also a function of the Treasury, so financial fraud like counterfeiting falls under their domain. They could have been called in due to the lottery ticket issue, but I'm not sure if that would fall under their jurisdiction unless counterfeiting a lottery ticket is also considered counterfeiting currency in some way. Or, there could be a slew of other things they've subsequently discovered about potential motives for her disappearance that we're not yet privy to.

I have a suspicion that the lottery issue is connected in some way to Jessica's disappearance....

But..... JMO....

As I posted earlier the SS also helps with missing persons cases, according to some sites on google. They perform forensics and other work and have been on other cases, including, I believe, Kyron Horman.
