When the body is found though, no matter how long it takes, as least peeps will quit speculating that a young lady simply ran away when her family knows otherwise. In Morgan's case, she was left along the road but within a private property line, right? So someone harmed her and shortly thereafter just randomly dumped her body. Iirc the landowner discovered her while driving his tractor around his property. It's ashame he hadn't done that sooner. What a horrible discovery though. Her case remains unsolved, correct?

Yes, still unsolved although LE has DNA but no match to a person...just a link to another unsolved crime. (An assault, I believe)

Isn't this the second young woman to die in a pond (with car nearby) in MI since JH's case began? Both times we were made aware wondering if it might be JH. They weren't but could the other two cases be related? What's up with that?

Rosaline Ransom Lee was found in a lake in Pontiac. I believe that her boyfriend was charged in the case, but I haven't followed it since the body was discovered.

The more recent case of a young woman's body found in a pond in West Bloomfield has not been identified yet (in the media). There was an autopsy scheduled but no details have emerged yet about the woman's identity, COD, etc. LE has mentioned only that the 25-year-old woman is believed to be local. I suspect that they determined this from her vehicle that was found nearby.

After 3 years 60 searchers were looking for Kyron Horman near the school where he disappeared saturday and sunday with search dogs. Kyrons mother said they found potential evidence and turned it over to LE. It is never to late to search. You start where Jessica disappeared. The missing you foundation does not search frequently. It will be up to other non profit people, friends, and family.

There were a few searches within the first 72 hours of Jessica's disappearance. I don't recall offhand the exact locations, but I know that at least one state park was included as well as open fields in the vicinity of the Exxon station. Eyeglasses were found in the state park, I believe, and were determined to not belong to Jessica. I don't think that any other possible clues or evidence were found that would have helped determine Jessica's whereabouts; eventually, searches were discontinued.

NSPD issued a statement regarding searches and why they were no longer indicated in locating Jessica. Based on their investigation and what was known at the time about Jessica's disappearance, LE determined that ground searches were no longer feasible because it was believed that she was taken away in a vehicle.

Another summer holiday weekend has come and gone without any word about someone having spotted Jessica or found something that might provide clues to her whereabouts. Hunting season will bring the next opportunity for citizens to find evidence or remains. Where is Jessica Heeringa and who took her?

The glasses weren't found by a search team, it was just some guy walking through the park IIRC. I still find it weird that he turned them over to the media before LE though...wth? :waitasec:

A detail that I don't recall. Thanks.

Weirder is that LE would take the glasses to JH's sig other to determine if they're hers or not. It's not logical when considering the way LE operates by first looking at those closest to the victim and working their way out. I'm not saying this to point a finger at J's sig other at all. But it made no sense to me that LE should or would trust confirmation from a sig other in any case. If SO had anything to do with it, of course he'd say "no, not hers".

Also, why pick the glasses up from the ground in the first place? Leave them there and report them asking LE to get over there asap to take a look. What if he found the glasses elsewhere like in a car that his relative happened to be driving or something. I'm suspicious of anyone when and if they do things backwards or take matters into their own hands. Especially if they insert a third party (unless he hung around as well). Just weird imo.

You make a good point. I do not think Dakota had anything to do with this at all, but that is true. I'd think that since he's been cleared by the police, though, that they wouldn't think anything of having them identify the glasses since he was around her more than anyone else.

I totally agree with the picking the glasses up thing. Anyone with even one lick of common sense would know to not touch any piece of potential evidence, in danger of tampering with it. And he obviously considered the fact that they potentially belonged to Jessica since he immediately went to the media. That's a head scratcher for sure, IMO too. :waitasec:

I really think this upcoming hunting season has a better shot at finding Jessica than any organized search would be at this time. More people out in remote, wooded areas. Also, more people out on wooded private properties, which would be hard to do in an organized search. Our property in MI is tons of acres, but most are not really traveled until hunting season.

Hopefully there won't be too much snow early, and enough flyers get out to places hunters frequent, so they know to keep their eyes open for anything that looks out of the norm.

In Adrienne Salinas' case, one of our sleuthers walked the area around where she disappeared and found an old cell phone. She called LE who said to pick it up and meet an officer at a nearby park. She did and went to the park, only to wait to no avail because an officer never showed up. She was then asked to take the cell phone down to the police station. Now THAT is weird.

The sad truth is you are correct. More bodies are found while people are out hiking, hunting, biking, ATVing, camping, then during any well organized search. It's stumbling upon a body that seems to be the way of bringing the missing/deceased back home.

The Chief gave his views about conducting searches in the article above.

Iirc, they searched a nearby industrial area (not sure why), Hoffmaster Park (glasses found), and Harbor Island in Grand Haven (based on a tip).
I have only been to Michigan in the summer time. I have been told that in the fall(october and november) the leaves fall off the trees making it much easier to search.:thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave::thewave:

Not necessarily. In heavily wooded areas (i.e. state parks) where no one is raking leaves throughout the fall season, falling leaves can become quite dense. High winds can cause leaves to form huge piles that are similar to blowing/drifting snow. Until the leaves disintegrate, the ground can be covered for several weeks, and by that time, it's usually begun to :snowflake:.

Fall is my favorite season, and autumn in Michigan is particularly awesome :leaf2:

The forests are covered with fallen leaves in the fall. Having said that, many hunters are in the woods during this time of year. Some may come upon decedent's who are in those areas, simply because they go deep into woods, rarely traveled otherwise.

I have lived in Michigan most of my life. Even in the fall, the evergreens (pine, fir and spruce) do not lose their foliage, so the forests are still quite dense.

Facebook is reporting that 2 PI are are working on Jessica's case as well.

Now that the summer tourist season has come to a close, hunters are the most likely to stumble upon evidence and/or remains.

I was born and raised in the Motor City and have lived in north-suburban Detroit since the mid-70s (after college).

When DH and I drove up to Mackinac August 23, there were already some color-tipped trees :leaf2:

I have little dead leaves showing up in my yard already. As soon as the nights are consistently in the 50s, they are sure to really start turning.

I am having a very hard time with someone getting away with this. Busing is minimal at Mona Shores Public Schools, so lots of kiddos walking around now that school started back up. The attempted luring at Lake Harbor park is making me very nervous. I am afraid he's hunting again, but possibly without the van.

The more time that goes on, the less convinced I am that sketchy witness accounts equal outright lies. I feel like those scenerios would have likely been found out by now.

I just have an eerie sense of something or someone lurking. It's getting under my skin.
