I contacted Kyle Feldscher the Crime Reporter for AnnArbor.com yesterday, to follow up and see if he has any new news or contact with the Ypsilanti Police Department Detectives regarding Julia and also to ask him if this kind of hush-hush and lack of details were typical of a homicide investigation. This was his response: "We're still waiting, unfortunately. The police are still not releasing a lot of information. We continue to press them. This is very unusual. By this time, we usually have a good sense of what happened, if not the whole story. Lots of questions."

I'm "new" to this and wanted to try to get more information concerning this case. Julia was a very good friend of mine and yes, I believe it was a homicide. She was so "full of life" , friendly and constantly smiling - she would bring a bit of sunshine into your life as soon as you met her. It seems that LE is not releasing many details but are continuing to investigate this as a possible murder. Lots of questions are unanswered and may be answered once the toxicology report is completed and released. I hope LE is uncovering all the facts to help resolve this crime.

:welcome: Trojan 1966. :welcome4:

I hope answers come soon for Julia, her loved ones, and you, too!

:please:

My cousin is a freshman at Central Michigan University where a young girl was poisoned before Xmas. I'm not sure of the exact details but someone tried to get her to drink bleach. I'm only 26 but I can assure you that, indeed, at that age (college age) everything is drama. These girls get too involved with boys and jealously and act in the moment. They don't realize that some "harmless" little prank or a moment of anger has lasting affects. Poor Jasmine.

I started a post a while ago and ended up not sending it because I thought that my example of the "drama" in college days (late '60s) might sound silly in this day and age. Your post has prompted me to reconsider and share an incident from my sophomore year in the dorm.

I worked in the dorm office and usually had weekend hours (by choice), so my parents/siblings would visit me occasionally and take me out for dinner on Sunday evenings. My mom always asked if there was anything that I needed, and prior to one visit I said that I could use a new bra and panties. She bought me a pretty purple bra and matching panties.

I modeled my new lingerie in the hallway later than night - no coed dorms back in the day :D - but never got a chance to wear it after that because someone stole the items from my dresser drawer! Methinks that one of the girls on my hall was jealous of the attention that I got from others and decided that she didn't want me to have the bra and panties. I never accused anyone of having stolen from me, but I had my suspicions and felt sorry for the girl who did this to me.

Stealing underwear probably sounds silly when compared to someone who might have been murdered by a roommate, but the jealousy that prompted it might be almost as petty. :moo:

I keep checking this thread for some significant news in finding out what happened to Julia.

Sigh.

Prayers to her family and friends. I hope they know more than we, the public, are aware of so far.

Another day gone by and still no answers. I've been led to believe the toxicology report should be done by the end of the month. It takes quite a while but I hope they find something. We may then know the "how" but will still wonder about the "why" and "who". Good luck to LE. The waiting has been devastating for the family as they want to know what exactly happened and who may have done such a thing.

The Michigan crime lab is notoriously swamped with forensic cases, so it probably takes longer than it would in a more efficient facility. :moo:

I wish that Toxicology results were faster...I can't imagine being the family waiting and waiting. A few months ago, a 19 year kid disappeared for a few days after going to a friends house in Ann Arbor...right down the street from my house. They found him dead a few days later in a retention pond outside of the friends condo complex. They still have not confirmed cause of death, and even though toxicology came back they ordered another round of toxicology to test for more, and his family is still waiting and wondering.

family is angry and frustrated over delays

(((I am too! )))

More than four weeks have passed since police found EMU junior Julia Niswender's body in her off-campus Ypsilanti apartment. But police have nothing new to say about the apparent murder, John Counts reports at AnnArbor.com

"We are still awaiting results from toxicology, forensic laboratory analysis and a final autopsy report," said a release Wednesday afternoon.

The lack of information about the death of Niswender, a 23-year-old communications major, is tough for her family, a spokesman says.

Ypsilanti police are continuing to investigate the death of Eastern Michigan University student Julia Niswender and are awaiting some test results.

Police are also continuing to interview a number of people in connection to the case, according to an updated press release sent out Wednesday afternoon by the Ypsilanti Police Department.

The EMU junior was found dead in her off-campus apartment on Dec. 11. Few new details have become available since the autopsy determined there were no signs of trauma on Niswender's body, but there were indicators of possible foul play.

Investigators are still waiting for results from the toxicology test, forensic laboratory analysis, and the final autopsy report, according to the police update. Police say as more information becomes available, further updates will be provided for the public.

yeah.. I figured the police would make some sort of statement this week as the students are just getting back from break.

While I appreciate the need for LE to keep details about the case close to the vest, it's disconcerting that EMU students/parents have so little information about what might have happened to Julia and whether or not the campus is safe. :moo:

This part has me intrigued:

Few new details have become available since the autopsy determined there were no signs of trauma on Niswender's body, but there were indicators of possible foul play.

Hmmm. Inquiring minds want to know what those indicators are/were...but if it's specific to their investigation, I can understand the need to keep it under wraps, so as not to tip off anyone possibly involved.

My heart goes out to the family as they wait.

I know the family is "frustrated", but as DeputyDawg said, maybe the police are getting very close to solving this and don't want to tip anyone off. It could easily be two weeks or more for the toxicology report, then possibly more time before it is made public. I hope for the family's sake this will be solved soon to help in their closure.

So...guess what happened???!!! Another death of a 21 year old female at Pennisular Place Apartments in Ypsilanti!! The same apartments that Julia lived and died at!!!!! Coincidence? The police think this (new) case was a possible overdose, and stress that this event is in no way connected to Julia's case. How do they know? This is just tragic.

My word! What is happening there?

I really cannot see why it is not related when it is in the same complex, same age, had a room mate at EMU. How can they be so sure, especially as they say they have nothing on Julia's case.

 whoa ... unbelievable ... and IS it a "coincidence" ? :waitasec:

Oh, I wish we knew some sort of "detail" about Julia's death ...

And please keep us posted on any updates regarding this young lady who just passed -- if it is a confirmed O/D or something else ...
