Mariah Smith's Mother Says Her Sister May Know Something

DETROIT -- It has been almost a week since DNA testing confirmed the charred body of a girl found in a burned abandoned Detroit home on Waverly Street is 5-year-old Mariah Smith.

The girl's mother, Konesha Smith, has said she thinks her daughter was kidnapped from their home on the city's west side after a family party. She has already taken a polygraph test...

So Quanita is on the run? I bet she knows exactly who the killers were but now she has to fear for her own life too. I hope she was not involved herself, I really do.

I guess we all knew she would disappear. LE held her as long as they could. They know she knows what happened. I'll be surprised, now, if they ever find out who murdered Mariha. So very sad.

It will be interesting to see if Mariha's aunt shows up for the little girl's funeral tomorrow.

I'm betting no.

I just hope the funeral can be done on a respectful and peaceful manner in Mariha's memory.

The gunshots and fighting at the vigil have me really nervous about the funeral. Emotions will be high and I hope everybody can hold it together.
 
With her aunt on the run, I sincerely hope that she does not take her own life. She may hold the key/answers to this case. Mariha deserves justice - nothing less! Please, please, please someone make the right choice. Please talk!
 
Quanita has a few children of her own, correct? If so, I think it is less of a possiblity she would harm herself and more concern for her and her childrens safety if she breaks the 'no snitch rule'.

The sooner she talks the better. It could be all the adults were drunk, someone became an angry drunk and they panicked. I'm just guessing........ but it would be feasible knowing there was a party.

With regards to Mariha's mother and family being evicted, some communities have somekind of ordinance in which owners/landlords who rent to known repeat criminal offenders bare some responsibility for their tenants actions. I know very little about it other than it does exist in some communities. I don't know if Detroit is one of those communities?

Praying this little girl gets the funeral she deserves tomorrow without incident and this case is solved soon.

The funeral will be held at noon Friday at Triumph Church, 2760 E. Grand Blvd in Detroit...

WDIV just showed live coverage of Mariha's funeral from outside the church where the services are being held. Video should be available shortly at www.clickondetroit.com . Reward is now $10,000. Hopefully, someone will come forward with information. LE is especially interested in the identity of the man in the convenience store video who bought 41 cents worth of gas.

Hundreds fill church to say goodbye to little Mariah

Detroit— Family and friends came together at Triumph Church to say a final goodbye to Mariah Smith, a 5-year-old girl who was found dead in a burned-out house on the city's west side last month.

Mariah's funeral began at noon today and drew a near-capacity crowd, which almost filled the church that has a capacity of 800. Many family members wore white T-shirts with a photo of the young girl on the front. Throughout the service, many broke down in tears with Mariah's mother, Konesha Smith, having to walk out at one point...

I'm ecstatic to see the reward raised to 10,000. Ten thousand bucks would likely be a LOT to someone in a city with an estimated 27% unemployment rate.

Sadly, I don't think the survelliance video images are going to be enough to identify this POI. The gas was purchased at a time of the morning where the sun was blinding in that video. At least from viewing on my computer and I could not make out the persons face.

Imo, it may take a sketch artist working on a sketch to release to the public. Especially for someone without any knowledge of the POI's involvement to recognize him by face. Hopefully a sketch is a possiblity.
 
On the local news at 4:00, there was some new video from the funeral service that should be available shortly at www.clickondetroit.com . Most notable were words from Detroit's Police Chief at Mariha's funeral urging the community to come forward with information so that LE can resolve the case. More to come on the 5:00 news.

ETA: A little more new video from the funeral shown on 5:00 news. There's also 6:00 news on WDIV, so I'll keep you posted.

This is just so horrible, I pray for justice to come soon for this sweet baby girl.
