DETROIT – It’s been months since Detroit police said they expected to make a major announcement in connection with the 2023 killing of a well-known neurosurgeon.

But no such announcement has been made. The investigation into the killing of doctor Devon Hoover, 53, remains ongoing more than one year since the man’s death.

Hoover was shot several times in the head at his house in Detroit’s Boston Edison District on April 23, 2023. Police found Hoover’s body wrapped in a sheet in the attic, and said the killer carried the body there.

In November 2023, Detroit police Chief James White told the public that an announcement was expected “soon,” hopefully by the end of the year. White said he was confident that the department would "bring some closure to this family very, very soon.”

White also said investigators had been working closely with the prosecutor’s office on this case, and that they had a “significant to-do list” that was “just about complete.”...

A Detroit Police Department spokesperson called the investigation open and active but wouldn’t confirm whether there were any new developments.

Last November, Detroit police Chief James White hinted at a big announcement in the case that never came.

“We had a significant to-do list when we submitted our findings,” said White. “We are working through that to-do list, and we’re just about to complete, and I’m hopeful that it will be very soon,” he said at the time.

Shortly after police discovered Hoover’s body, a person of interest was taken into custody on a warrant unrelated to the killing. The individual was released days later.

Police said at the time they believe the person had information about what happened.

There’s a $22,500 reward for tips leading to an arrest. If you have any information, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up

I don't do social media. Could you paraphrase for those of us who can't read the Facebook page?

Thank you for posting this info: it has been over a year since Dr. Hoover was murdered and so far nothing- crickets--- it is just mind boggling that they seem to not be making progress- Of course there could be things going on behind the scenes but I kind of doubt it. Praying that this case gets solved, sooner than later.

It's possible that LE still have their eyes on one of the persons that they initially suspected and brought in for questioning or held on another charge but had to release. In relation to Dr. Hoover's murder, they may have not had enough evidence to take to the prosecutor in order to charge him. Perhaps the prosecution has been saying all along, get me the evidence, until then he can't be charged with the crime. Maybe with the new reward money they are hoping to get more evidence on the guy.

On the other hand, maybe they are back to square one in this case. That would be incredibly tragic since so much time has passed, and Dr. Hoover and his famiy deserve and need justice - as does the larger community.

This is one of those haunting cases, like Liz Barraza-- The victims seemed like such good people and the murders seem so remarkably senseless

I thought they said to expect an arrest before the first snowfall….. summer is ending and I would imagine that snowfall in Michigan (once again) would be expected in about 3-4 months. Unless I’m remembering a different case. MOO
